  1. I shaved my freshman or sophomore year in college and not often. Now I have a full beard. Took a bit.
  2. The "age cheating" thing, I'm not sure about... but he did have a fairly long career winning his last world medal (bronze) in '06, before retiring with neck issues in 2007. So a 13-14 year long career, regardless. FILA named him the third greatest wrestler of all time. I'm guessing Karelin and Medved the top two?
  3. Maybe... but Turkey had a 17 year old World Champ in 93 in Hamza Yeriklaya. Hamza went on to win two Olympics. I bet he was pretty good at 20 if he won at 17. (Also was 82 kg at 17, where he was wrestling full grown men)
  4. Both significantly heavier than Vito. The lighter guys tend to have shorter careers on top in most combat sports. That factors in as well. Look at Vito's injury history as of late... further compounding things.
  5. I guess he is "only" 24.
  6. Vito isn't that young! He is 25. Does he have another entire cycle of him being the US rep left in him?
  7. Didn't Hardy graduate from high school in 2018? I get the whole LDS mission thing. but am surprised he is only a junior. Any redshirts left for him to take?
  8. Yes. World Cup a few years back.
  9. Well, DT did have a tech over the gold medalist
  10. I know you are, but what am I?
  11. I'm sure Oklahoma State has some fine programs, but since when is it viewed as an "elite academic school?" (Too soon?)
  12. Are you some sort of Buckeye insider and don't want to tip your hand because it will give away your identity?
  13. In this country. I supposed you could play some games regarding your location with a VPN.
  14. DT and Sad are much more credentialed now as a duo than Sad/Snyder were in their first two matchups. Maybe past prime, but better credentialed.
  15. It really sounded like his voice was cracking and on the verge of tears when they discussed Woods leaving for Iowa on the Basch show.
  16. Yes. It is crazy to look back on... but I may have been the same age as him when I was a college sophomore.
  17. It could also be Blaze as the last to commit. For opposite reasons. (does everything quietly, by comparison)
  18. https://uww.org/athletes/bassett-bowen-william He is either already 18 or will be 18 before 1/1/2025. Previous reports have him turning 19 in March 2025 and 20 as a senior March 2026. He beats college level guys, so age isn't an issue when wrestling U20 worlds; however he will 100% be 18 as a junior. Possibly 19.
  19. This might be a function of Russia not being at Olympics. Japan and Iran have always taken age groups seriously as far as I can remember.
  20. Well, McDonogh was one of the few Iowa guys Askren liked, and he was let go... so there's that. And Ben was/is tight with Wick and Moran, and I think they both had fallings out with Bono as well.
  21. Except we are trying to reward takedowns.
  22. Yes. Generally reversals are much more easily avoided than takdowns. It usually takes a major mistake by the top man, who pretty much has to assist the bottom man in this endeavor. Most of the time, the offensive wrestler just has to let go and he will not give up R2.
  23. In a post-Olympic interview with Gable he mentioned that it had come to his attention that a Japanese wrestler who spent a lot of time (like maybe a year?) at the Hawkeye Club in 84-85 may be one of the top guys in the Japanese wrestling administrative hierarchy now. This would make sense in sense in the context of a) conditioning/pace and b) the amount of live they are reportedly doing in training.
