  1. I'm not a regular, but I think Gabe's dad has been a good source of information and very supportive of the coaches. I think Ben's mom got a little upset about how posters were talking about her boy.
  2. Mama Kueter, I think? Gabe Arnold's dad?
  3. I would add: Naive is thinking that multiple matside weigh-ins per day is every going to happen. I would also put myself in as a poster child: we had night before weigh-ins during my college career.
  4. Well, no... it is not the same thing. It happens much closer to competition. Guys will be wrestling closer to their natural weight, theoretically. If you think 5 minutes is the same amount of time as an hour or two hours, we have a problem and it goes deeper than weight cutting. Multiple weigh-ins throughout the day is absurd and creates more problems (administrative mostly) than it fixes. That would be a great reason to keep things as they are.
  5. I had 51 boys join the team from a school with a male population of about 250.
  6. I don't understand how forfeits would happened at an increased rate if you are weighing in the same number of times, but in a different location.
  7. I don't have a problem with the sponsor being mentioned. Don't bowl games do that? But it is 100% a National Invitational. The top teams in the NATION were INVITED, and this includes PSU. You'd think PSU might be interested in the cash prize, as the program loses the university money every year. (as does every other D1 wrestling program)
  8. LOL Dake was just on Flo talking about he is reading the greatest book he has ever read. He was talking about the Bible. So cross him off your list. Here is another one to remove from your list https://www.jordanburroughs.com/blog/faith-hope-believe
  9. Aren't the world qualifiers in the spring? lol (I assume this is what you are getting at)
  10. Personally I would be in favor of one matside weigh in per day. I'm fine with the current system, but would be interested in a seeing a well-thought out matside weigh-in. I just can't see doing it every round.
  11. I wouldn't redshirt him. You redshirt him and he's somewhere else the next year.
  12. Excellent! This kid (well, now a man in his 40s) wrestled for me. His dad said the thing that amazed him the most about his brilliant son was that he was a successful varsity athlete. I haven't spoken to him in a number of years, but last time I heard he had been a professor at both MIT and Notre Dame.
  13. The smartest human being I ever met went to Chicago. I'm east coast and everyone expected him to go to Harvard, Yale, MIT etc. Many of those schools allegedly offered him academic deals that would cover even post-graduate work. I think he surprised a lot by going to Chicago. He was a standout even at Chicago. Ended up getting his Masters at Cambridge on Winston Churchill's dime. Doctorate from MIT.
  14. I don't think a lot do, but if they did: recovery, injury prevention, strength, etc.
  15. Hahaha. He hasn't coached an athlete in the Olympics or to the Olympics.
  16. He moved after the Olympics.
  17. Rule 4 Section 5 Article 9 And I never said he shouldn't be wrestling without a brace.
  18. I agreed... but their one rep prob won more matches than all the Illini reps combined.
  19. But he chose Iowa and chose to remain at Iowa. Illinois was almost shut out by Iowa in the dual... just saying.
  20. Iowa was shut out in the quad (if you don't count Gilman) ... until they had the highest placer in the Olympics. LOL Good try though. LOL
  21. Absolutely untrue. Pseudoscience. Bro-science etc. This is something that is untrue and has been passed from generation to generation of wrestlers who haven't paid attention to the literature. Quite the opposite: Creatine has actually been shown to mitigate the effects of dehydration and heat illness. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7871530/ https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-creatine/art-20347591 (and what good sources said they were on creatine? There was confusion, bc there was talk about creatinine levels in autopsies. This is different than creatine.)
  22. Creatine? Sweating on creatine? lol But for the record, the current NFHS rules are the best system I have seen in my years of involvement with high school wrestling. It could be tweaked a little, but I am fine with it.
