  1. Except we are trying to reward takedowns.
  2. Yes. Generally reversals are much more easily avoided than takdowns. It usually takes a major mistake by the top man, who pretty much has to assist the bottom man in this endeavor. Most of the time, the offensive wrestler just has to let go and he will not give up R2.
  3. In a post-Olympic interview with Gable he mentioned that it had come to his attention that a Japanese wrestler who spent a lot of time (like maybe a year?) at the Hawkeye Club in 84-85 may be one of the top guys in the Japanese wrestling administrative hierarchy now. This would make sense in sense in the context of a) conditioning/pace and b) the amount of live they are reportedly doing in training.
  4. Does this mean play wrestling doesn't work and we should wrestle 60+ minutes of live goes at every practice like Japan does? Probably not. I think we are doing just fine. There are always improvements to be made, but I don't think we need to overhaul the system. I know that the original post wasn't making that statement, but that was a familiar refrain in August.
  5. I have only had limited contact with Bono. I don't like some of these things that I have heard about him in recent years, but out of the two times that I met him , I have one positive story to share. Probably 15-20 years ago, I was working a camp with a number of big names. One of the featured clinicians was a product of the Bobby Douglas coaching tree. Bono, also a Douglas tree member, was working another camp 45 minutes away. Bono showed up at the camp I was working at to hang out with this other individual. Before you know it, Bono is grabbing a counselor and teaching technique on a mat to a group. He did an entire 2 hour technique session that he wasn't asked to do, and did not expect payment. He got a meal out of it and hung out with the staff and that was enough for him.
  6. Just give a point to the guy who had criteria once the match is over, similar to the OT rideout. It looks better in results. Less confusion, esp. with casuals.
  7. The bottom wrestler did not achieve a takedown. The people who make the rules are looking to emphasize takedowns.
  8. That would not work out very well for Zeke. He would be better off going for the slumlord.
  9. What about Colombian marching powder?
  10. Wow! Wonder if Pritts will whine about this on social media?
  11. No, put me on "I strongly hypocritical PSU fans, and enjoy pointing out their hypocrisy" Nolf and Taylor are two of my favorite college wrestlers ever. I liked John Fritz a lot and spent a weekend in State College at a coaches clinic. Jeff Prescott and Carl Destefanis were favorites of mine, and Kerry McCoy is one of the best guys I have met in the sport. But there were very few hypocritical fans back in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s.
  12. Taylor was on a call with them, and Yianni's post was a hot topic. Pyle did what a halfway decent journalist should do. He asked his guest about a newsworthy topic. The funny thing is that no one realized Yianni was talking about Taylor as the poacher; it was just a question Flo thought was relevant... they didn't know just how relevant.
  13. Lol. One thing Oklahoma state had been doing well is recruiting. Also, keep in mind that DT flipped from ISU to PSU as an athlete, and poached Vega from another coach who had flipped his commitment as a recruit.
  14. Sorry to see this @nhs67!
  15. Saw this coming at alluded to it on the other thread. It seems as if Michigan got a little cute with recruiting. They landed Correa and then recruited Sahakian over him, perhaps trying to force Correa down to 197? Correa was highly recruited, with Michigan beating out PSU (Cael did a home visit in NH!), When Correa won (almost a major) at WNO, he started yelling something into the camera and flo cut away. I think he was in the process of decommitting at that moment. I don't like to see "flips" but it looks like Michigan was playing games and Correa flexed his athlete's rights.
  16. The answer is "neither is good." Cael has mastered handling both, as well as his own coaching commitment flip. Brands is a very distant second.
  17. Not to get too off topic, but I'm hoping DT "flips" a couple of guys at Worlds!
  18. I don't think the Ivies and Alabama/Georgia/etc. are going after the same kids. I don't think it will change that much.
  19. The Lehigh statement is an interesting read, especially in today's climate.
  20. I would definitely have Lehigh ahead of Cornell in terms of tradition. Is Cornell better, now? Yes, of course. That is relatively recent though. Lehigh also (narrowly) holds the edge in the dual meet series.
  21. Yes. Actually a lot of the smaller schools want kids to "sign" because it is free publicity for the school when it is posted on social media. I don't think Cornell is pushing that. This was probably the family/McCort athletic department.
  22. Mason Gibson...
