  1. I saw Travis Lee win the HI state championships his 3rd time when we lived there. I thought he went to Harvard but stuff says he was at Cornell. I talked to a coach (I think it was the freestyle club) and he said he was really a special wrestler. You don't run into those everyday. I do remember him though from the tourney. mspart
  2. https://nypost.com/2025/06/10/us-news/dem-calif-rep-maxine-waters-blatantly-lies-about-la-protests-there-was-no-violence/ Dem Calif. Rep. Maxine Waters blatantly lies about LA protests: ‘There was no violence’ Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on Tuesday made the blatantly false assertion that there was “no violence” happening in Los Angeles during the fiery unrest. The left-wing 18-term congresswoman told the enormous whopper during a Capitol Hill press conference as she hit out at the Trump administration for deploying thousands of National Guard members and hundreds of active-duty Marines to try to quell the destructive chaos that has engulfed the city for four days and nights. 7 “Nobody was shot, nobody was killed, get it into your head,” the 86-year-old told reporters with a completely straight face. So violence is now, nobody was shot, nobody was killed. That's the lowest bar ever. 18 terms? 15 too many. mspart
  3. One of the things that DOGE wants to cancel but you are against. I feel strongly that the funding will dry up now. The funding was for specific purposes, not to foment riots and looting and arson and assault and defacing of buildings and throwing concrete etc. My guess is the purpose was for more peaceful things. Remember Mayor Bass declared a curfew because the area is so safe and there has been no violence. mspart
  4. So what you are saying is that in the midst of the planning and Trump prosecutions, Trump was able to get Biden to start the planning for this 2 years ago and set it specifically for his birthday, which just happens to coincide with the date of establishment of the Army. This has nothing to do with 250 years or that the Army started this effort 2 years ago. mspart
  5. At least you are semi open to the fact that there was violence in the riots. Just asking if there was damage to the federal buildings is a good step forward. mspart
  6. Obviously you don't mind law enforcement wearing masks eh? mspart
  7. What is the military parade commemorating? 250 years of the US Army, whose inaugural first 10 years was fighting for our independence. That is the reason for the commemoration. Seems like a noteworthy thing to do in a rational country. Things are not rational in this country thus it makes one wonder if it is wise to do this. Protesters should be welcome, law breaking not so much. mspart
  8. https://thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-news-now/fbi-to-investigate-funding-anti-ice-protests-organizations-involved-president-donald-trump-california-governor-gavin-newsom-los-angeles Our researchers found two main organizations that are heavily involved in these protests. The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) receives nearly $34 million/year in government grants. This is one outfit that might be funding the riots. mspart

  10. https://www.nbcnews.com/world/middle-east/greta-thunberg-deported-israel-military-intercepts-gaza-bound-aid-boat-rcna211976 Greta Thunberg deported from Israel after its military intercepts Gaza-bound aid boat The 22-year-old activist was among a group detained by Israel after trying to break its naval blockade of Gaza and deliver a symbolic shipment of humanitarian aid. Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel on Tuesday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said, the day after she and other activists were detained while trying to deliver a symbolic shipment of aid to Gaza by sea. In a post on X, the ministry said that Thunberg, 22, had “just departed Israel on a flight to Sweden” via France, and shared images of her on a plane. No word on how horribly she was treated by the Israelis. I guess she was treated fairly well then. She was given the chance to be deported or to go to a hearing for deportation mandate. She apparently chose not to go to the hearing and is back in Sweden now. mspart
  11. And Harvard has to provide remedial classes because their incoming freshmen are not up to speed. I'm really surprised with all the data out there you are trying to go down the path that education in america is the best it's ever been. https://educationonline.ku.edu/community/how-usa-education-measures-up-worldwide The United States has been struggling to keep up with other countries in terms of educational performance, particularly in mathematics and science. The consequences of this educational gap are far-reaching, impacting both the economy and the prospects of American workers. The USA “is now the worst-educated workforce in the industrialized world. The United States is grappling with an educational crisis and has been for some time, as indicated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).2 Numerous countries outperform the United States in high school mathematics, revealing a notable achievement gap. Additionally, American millennials rank last in mathematics and problem-solving tests when compared to their counterparts in other countries. This situation poses a substantial challenge to the nation's global economic standing and undermines the future competitiveness of American workers. In the 2018 PISA results, the United States achieved an average score of 1,485, placing it in the 22nd position among the countries assessed. While the United States' performance was below that of top-performing countries like China, Singapore, and Estonia, it still exceeded the average scores for all the OECD countries, which scored 1,465. AI overview of this article from Kansas University states: The US education system has a mixed record when compared to other countries. While the US excels in higher education, with top-ranked universities and a strong emphasis on research, K-12 education performance lags in some areas. In math, the US has been below average, with some reports even showing a decline in student scores. In science, the US is above the OECD average but still below some top-performing countries. Substandard education that is better than other areas of the country is not excellent education. Talk about getting teched. mspart
  12. Don't your kids have loved ones (you) that they would leave. You are not illing to do so but encourage your kids to do it. That is crazy.
  13. And why is this? D's have been in charge of urban areas for generations. They are the one's that are the champions of the poor and people of color. Your statement is more an indictment of the status quo as built by the D's than the utopia of educating everyone the same, which should be the utopia of the Ds. In fact, they have attempted to reduce requirements so that they can say they educate everyone the same. What kind of education is that? It is the effort to keep people uneducated so they are more easily controlled. That is not utopia and is not something to aspire to. mspart
  14. It's like I've read this thread and have responded to items before. The issue for the trans individual is very complicated I agree. There is plenty of mental issues involved and if they do transition, a lifetime of mental/psychological therapy that I would wish on no one. But that does not mean participation in sports is complicated. My issues are these: 1. No boys in girls bathrooms and no girls in boys bathrooms. Locker rooms are the same. 2. No boys playing against girls in girls sports. I would prefer that girls not play against boys in boys sports. The physical advantage is not there and there is the element of risk of injury due to this that is the reason there are boys and girls sports. In my mind, the girl is making the decision to compete against stronger and faster athletes. The girls on a team are not making the decision to play against a stronger and faster athlete when a boy enters the scene. It is being forced on them. And from what I have seen, if they complain they are shamed and bullied into submission by admin and coaches. That is just as wrong as bullying trans folks. 3. This is simple with regard to sports, bathrooms, and locker rooms. It is incomprehensible to me that people support boys and men competing against girls and women in girl's and women's sports. It makes no sense to me. mspart
  15. The solution is to not allow it. There is a reason there are boys and girls sports. The one is for boys, and the other is for girls. It is quite simple. mspart
  16. This is true and it is wrong. No one should be targeted and bullied. mspart
  17. If they say it enough it will be true. They learned that from Goebbels. Talking about leaning nazi. mspart
  18. Where are the classes like "Should you start a business or work for someone else?" Don't work and don't pay your student loans. "How to raise a family well?" Rather how not to get stuck with a spouse and kid. "How to be a good citizen?" Rather, how to be a good activist. jross, you are living in the past man. Good citizen? Raise a family? Occupation? In this day of the government owes me everything and I own them nothing? You are seriously outdated, but right on. msspart
  19. I would say everyone supports states rights. But supporting the state's right not to enforce the law, even their own law, is asking a bit much eh? They refuse to enforce federal law and they refuse to allow the feds to enforce federal law. How is that state's rights? mspart
  20. An analysis of the situation by Jonathan Turley. https://jonathanturley.org/2025/06/09/always-ready-always-there-democrats-mobilize-against-the-national-guard-deployment/ Below is my column in Fox.com on the deployment of National Guard in Los Angeles. Another round of court challenges are unfolding, but the escalation is likely to continue on both sides. While the Guard’s motto is “Always Ready, Always There!,” California Democrats do not want them between rioters and federal law enforcement. Here is the column: Gov. Gavin Newsom was in his element this week. After scenes of burning cars and attacks on ICE personnel, Newsom declared that this was all “an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act.” No, he was not speaking of the attacks on law enforcement or property. He was referring to President Donald Trump’s call to deploy the National Guard to protect federal officers. Newsom is planning to challenge the deployment as cities like Glendale are cancelling contracts to house detainees and reaffirming that local police will not assist the federal government. Trump has the authority under Section 12406 of Title 10 of the U.S. Code to deploy the National Guard if the president is “unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States.” The Administration is saying that that is precisely what is unfolding in California, where mobs attack vehicles and trap federal personnel. Most critics are challenging the deployment on policy grounds, arguing that it is an unnecessary escalation. However, even critics like Berkeley Law Dean Erwin have admitted that “Unfortunately, President Trump likely has the legal authority to do this.” There is a fair debate over whether this is needed at this time, but the President is allowed to reach a different conclusion. Trump wants the violence to end now as opposed to escalating as it did in the Rodney King riots or the later riots after the George Floyd killings, causing billions in property damage and many deaths. Courts will be asked to halt the order because it did not technically go through Newsom to formally call out the National Guard. Section 12406 grants Trump the authority to call out the Guard and employs a mandatory term for governors, who “shall” issue the President’s order. In the memo, Trump also instructed federal officials “to coordinate with the Governors of the States and the National Guard Bureau.” Newsom is clearly refusing to issue the orders or coordinate the deployment. Even if such challenges are successful, Trump can clearly flood the zone with federal authority. Indeed, the obstruction could escalate the matter further, prompting Trump to consider using the Insurrection Act, which would allow troops to participate directly in civilian law enforcement. In 1958, President Eisenhower used the Insurrection Act to deploy troops to Arkansas to enforce the Supreme Court’s orders ending racial segregation in schools. The Trump Administration has already claimed that these riots “constitute a form of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States.” In support of such a claim, the Administration could cite many of the Democratic leaders now denouncing the claim. After January 6th, liberal politicians and professors insisted that the riot was an “insurrection” and, in claiming that Trump and dozens of Republicans could be removed from ballots under the 14th Amendment. Liberal professors insisted that Trump’s use of the word “fight”and questioning the results of an election did qualify as an insurrection. They argued that you merely need to show “an assemblage of people” who are “resisting law” and “using force or intimidation” for “a public purpose.” The involvement of inciteful language from politicians only reinforced these claims. Sound familiar? Democrats are using this order to deflect from their own escalation of the tensions for months. From Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz calling ICE officers “Gestapo” to others calling them “fascists” and “Nazis,” Democratic leaders have been ignoring objections that they are fueling the violent and criminal responses. It did not matter. It was viewed as good politics. While Newsom and figures like Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) have called these “peaceful” protests, rocks, and Molotov cocktails have been thrown at police as vehicles were torched. Police had to use tear gas, “flash bang” grenades, and rubber bullets to quell these “peaceful” protesters. I think he makes interesting points on this situation. The idea of sanctuary states and cities makes people feel safe to do the peaceful protests and destroy property. Like they have a right to do this and when Trump sends in folks to quell this, there is umbrage to this, because they have the right to peacefully protest and destroy stuff. Imagine if you will, how 1970-1990s America would have reacted to ICE or similar going to get illegals out of the country and being confronted with this. There would be zero support for the peaceful protesters. The local LE will not protect ICE et all nor their facilities or else Trump wouldn't have taken the action that he did. As far as Cali is concerned, the feds can protect themselves, except when they do they cry about it. mspart
  21. Do you and your wife not have US passports? If so, why the worry? If not, I can understand your concern. mspart
  22. Nice change of subject. That is defacto agreement with my premise. Thank you. mspart
  23. LAPD had this perfectly under control yes indeedy. mspart
  24. Yes, it was mostly peaceful. mspart
  25. Be specific. How so? Upholding the law and putting down rebellion (defacing federal buildings, breaking windows, setting fire to law enforcement vehicles generally qualify as rebellion) is something the federal government can do. It has nothing to do with 1933 Nazi Germany. The feds are executing the law and the crazies are going nuts and destroying things in response. In 1933, it was the Nazi's that did the destroying things. Very different. mspart
