I totally hate the current state of college wrestling regarding the mercenary poaching of athletes to "big pocket" programs. Forget loyalty, just show me the money and let's win at all costs. My values just don't lineup with 2025. To be open minded, I realize some athletes transfer for personal reasons, or because they feel they can't reach their potential in their current program and need a change. Same logic as academics.4 points

I do actually, but the 174 guys aren’t. And Welsh can definitely make 174, said he’s wrestling around there through the summer. I’m sure going to 184 because of Haines. But this was also a guy who said back in the early winter Iowa would compete for the NC if they added Figueroa. In actuality, they would have only lost by what, 93?3 points

Illegal immigration’s was at its worst in American history during his reign. He spent 3.5 years saying it was not a thing. He chanted his tune when he realized it was costing him the next election. You can’t not see that.3 points

No i think Mineo hears stuff second and third hand and publishes it as facts and is wrong all the time. Combine that with the fact he's an open and repeated Iowa hater, and using him as the source for Iowa news is silly.3 points

I love these type of stupid posts. They're RS Freshmen, we haven't seen them since the Southern Scuffle(they both won it) and then the 3 losses were to Barr, their own teammate, Luffman, a 4-0 loss to a VERY good HWT and Feldman himself. These kids were elite in HS and they've spent a year in the PSU rooms. They weren't touted as the next PJ Duke's, but putting on a cap on what they are AT BEST at this point seems moronic. I can't count the number of guys who ended up placing far higher than their "at best," and just as many who placed lower than their "at least." Lets maybe...let the red shirts come off the kids before talking about how "overrated" they are at this point.3 points

Because you're financially literate and understand if you just invest that money, you're going to be set up for life. I mean, you're going to spend some of that and you're going to pay taxes, so...not quite, but a 20 year old kid putting a 180K into a retirement fund, he'll be worth millions if he does nothing else. Put it in something safe, don't touch most of it and keep driving a 2015 Civic(which...really not that old or a car).2 points

i took that whole interview as a nice way to say "OSU blows. i want daily PSU competition." i honestly don't think it had anything to do with redshirting or not. he knows OSU is not going to get him where he wants to be. even if he would have wrestled this year, unless he won NCAAs, i don't think there was any chance he was staying regardless. the give away was he him saying he didn't understand the recruitment process when he first did it. that is code for, "i made the WRONG decision."2 points

Well, in one scenario you have them going into the portal, going on a visit to a completely different school and eventually committing to Iowa. Then you have Welsh being announced in the portal and the IMMEDIATE reporting that it was Penn State, done deal. Don't piss on my back and tell me it's raining. And I don't remember your specific position on the Bassett NIL deal with him (and last years Iowa transfers back then) disputing the reported numbers, but I'd LOVE to hear it.2 points

You'd have to ask him. There was a graphic when he was a recruit showing PSU wasn't even in their top 10. My personal guess is that Barr and Welsh were sort of arch-enemies when they were in high school, constantly trading narrow victories over each other. When Barr picked PSU, I have to assume Welch decided to look elsewhere. Again, that's pure speculation on my part. I'd also assume he thought he'd be able to get more of a challenge from the OSU room. But it sounds like they just didn't have anyone there who could challenge him, especially when Kharchla was injured, so he felt like he wasn't getting better. In the podcast he said he had a meeting with the coaches to bring in some guys to the RTC, but that didn't happen. He also said he was still "angry" about not being allowed to compete for a spot (which he now calls a "miscommunication"). Sounds to me like tOSU made its own bed here, and the beneficiary wasn't going to be the school with the biggest pocketbook, but the school with the best room. Love 'em or hate 'em, that's PSU.2 points

It is. Because blue people don’t stand up for women’s rights. Mr Trump does. You’ve made this argument month after month after month. I’ve said repeatedly in other threads. It’s just a signature. Trump didn’t spend time on it. Some staffer did. You don’t like it cause you don’t like Trump. You apparently even agree your daughters don’t need to see men’s chimney cleaners in their locker rooms. Your only arguing cause you don’t like Trump. You just admired it2 points

They may poach like PSU, but they can't compete with them. That's hard to do when your purchases are under-coached and under-perform.2 points

PSU CAEL ERA GOATS? Yikes. How about this way ? Best technical wrestler ? == DT, Brooks or CStar there is case for each. Brooks #1 probably Best craftsman on the fly == Nolf, MM maybe Ruth - Nolf wrestled in a parallel universe at times Best in Beast Mode ? == Zain, Nickoll, Molinaro -- I'd never take down against Zain, nor would I survive 7 minutes of that. Best Grinder? ===== Lee, Matt Brown, Zain maybe Kerk. Nick Lee just ground guys down until they were done in. Best "harder I work, the luckier I get" wrestler == Cassar, Wright. Both inspiring stories. Cenzo too. Share a foxhole with, or have my daughter bring home for Dinner? 1) Q Wright 2 ) M Hall2 points

Williams, Bailey and Peterson are all volunteering their services for Iowa. No scholarships or NIL. They just want to be there. See how ridiculous it sounds when PSU fans say that about every single transfer?2 points

Eric Grajales was a highly touted recruit to Michigan back in 2010ish. i think he was a 5 time state champ out of florida. over his career, he was one of the more exciting wrestlers on the circuit but didn’t crack AA until his final year with a 3rd in 2013. Though slowed by injuries and a questionable gas tank, he was extremely entertaining and always a difficult out.2 points

This is what D1 college wrestling has devolved into, openly buying teams. I hope Iowa scores as many points at NCAAs off these guys as they got off Parco/Teemer this year.2 points

Respect to the top teams, despite their reliance on the portal. As a wrestling fan I'm less concerned about the details behind the scenes than I am the product on the mat. I'm unhappy with the poaching going on, but the kids get a chance to pocket some money and get to a higher tier program they wanted. That stated I can't help but think the NIL "system" is very bad for college wrestling. How good would a coach have to be to crack onto the podium at a midmajor school without NIL money backing him up? Schwab comes to mind immediately, but can he build up talent wtihout losing it to a bigger school? Probably not if the money is right, sadly.1 point

I asked who. I also brought up that before the Welsh news, Willie said there was a rumor about Feldman talking to PSU but that it wasn’t true, and someone else said Feldman’s dad posted something laughing about it. But PSU beats the field IMO even with zero transfers other than Ono.1 point

I find it very interesting that few people seem to be considering that PSU has a lot tougher room than OSU does and that Welsh will definitely improve more there? Sure, there may be some NIL money involved, but maybe he's just doing the time honored transfer to a school where he'll get better?1 point

I have a thought on this. I don't think most Mizzou followers realize how much of an influence Mike Eirman had on a bunch of the Tiger wrestlers. Jaden Cox and Ben Askren are two. Mike's son, and Mauller, as well as Jacques, were all multi Champs for Father Tolten, right there in Columbia and were starting from early on. I don't know what happened with Mike's tie to Mizzou, but his club is still developing talent in Mid Missouri, as well as Sammy Henson's Bull Trained club. The Elams were products of a strong Staley HS in KC, of which Gary Mayabb had built into a power before heading to USA Wrestling. There was a period of real good high school talent in Missouri that did well at summer USA nats, and many of these kids wrestled at D1 programs. I'm not sure if Missouri HS wrestling has taken step back. Several recent Mo Champs have gone to Mizzou to get buried on the roster. Saunders, Henson, Orrine, Fuggit, all headed out of state. Little Rock had several Missouri kids when they initiated their program. I also think Alex Clemson was a positive and was a loss when he left Mizzou for Maryland. Just the rambling of an old man that has deep roots in the wrestling in the state of Missouri.1 point
