  1. B1G Day What happens January 17, 2025 you reasonably ask? Well Nebraska hosts Penn State for a Big Ten dual. Which means we should get Caleb Smith vs Luke Lilledahl. With their latest rankings drop Intermat has Smith #5 and Lilledahl #11. If Lilledahl wins that match up it is possible that he jumps into Intermat's top 5. But the real significance is that if no one else on PSU looses before then all ten PSU wrestlers will be ranked in the Intermat top five. And with only the Michigan State dual between now and Nebraska, a PSU lose to Sparty seems highly unlikely. Wild. This is possible because with their respective 3-0 Sunday afternoons, Braeden Davis and Josh Barr moved into the Intermat top 5. Of course there are other landmines in the Nebraska dual that could derail the Top 5 Train. While wrestlestat has it 32-0 for PSU, among Jacob Van Dee, Brock Hardy, Ridge Lovett would anyone be surprised if there was at least one win for the Huskers? Two? Three? Minnesota 2.0? Right now PSU sits on 8 expected AAs. This is just shy of the 8.1 expected AAs they had going into the tournament last year. They also improved their chances of achieving a tie with Minnesota as the only teams with 10 AAs to an absurd 6.65%. As a reminder, going into the 2007 tournament Minnesota had an expected AA count of just 6.5 with a 0.78% chance of ten. Screw them odds, Poindexter. And Merry Christmas everyone.

  2. In response to your title question, the answer is "No, January 17, 2025 is not the day." The day is Sunday, February 16, 2025 when the Fighting ILLINI cap off a perfect 13-0 nonconference and B1G dual season with a win over PSU at State Farm Center in Champaign, ILLINOIS. By that time the Orange & Blue will be 12-0 (7-0 B1G) with wins over Arizona State, Missouri, Ohio State and Iowa. Everything will be settled on that fine day, and the Universe will be put back in order. We all know that Professor Carl will duck at least one of his wrestlers because that's what he does unless y'all are wrestling Binghamton or Bellarmine. Byrd wins. Webster and Scoles win. The person who wrestled the best against Keegan The Tool for 6½ minutes this year was Danny Braunagel, not Levi Haines, and wait'll you see an uninjured Danny Braunagel. Big Brawny wins as well, bursting the Barr Bubble, Carter Stallrocky ducks (smart move), and it all comes down to Luuuuke Luffman at home in his final dual for the ILLINI, and y'all know what happens there.

  3. I really believe he is the most talented wrestler in college right now. I think his brain both physically and mentally seems to be the only thing holding him back. I watched the Ed Scott match 4 or 5 times he scored 4 takedowns with 4 different attacks and made them all look relatively effortless. Not entirely sure what the purpose of this thread is I guess to say hes my pick to win NCAA's and I just hope he is able to stay healthy.

  8. Headgear is easier to see than ankle bands. Why not red headgear - green headgear?

  10. Cornell wrestling posted a video of his takedowns. The one in question is the third one, and shows what hammerlock3 says and what I suspected: misdirection and speed. This video may disappear within 24 hours. https://www.facebook.com/stories/101372705368685/UzpfSVNDOjE4NzMxNDkxOTY1NTA4NjQ=/?view_single=1

  11. You’re worried about a lot of nonsense on Xmas Eve my friend. Calm down. Breathe. Listen to the Beatles or something.

  12. If you were looking for commentary, the main things I notice about that one were that it was a full committed misdirection, meaning he wasn't chain wrestling or every really interested in the left side of Scott's body. I say that because you can see his right hand lands palm down, and also because you can see his right knee is already aimed across the body, meaning he knew where he wanted to end up. So to expand on what I said, he's going all out to get an all out reaction, but he's already set his body up to change directions, producing the goofy affect from scott. Hope thats not obvious I'm sure most of the people on here have a handle on technque.

  13. I suspect that on the one I posted, Scott might have thought Shapiro was going one direction and Shapiro went the other, so perhaps Scott turned into Shapiro's go-behind. That's the only way I can think he managed to get behind him so quickly. Shapiro has one of the best ankle pick takedowns, and he didn't try to use it. I just hope he has foregone the upper body TDs and keeps his feet firmly planted on the ground.

  15. As you might expect, there were plenty of changes after a week that included a ton of duals. There are currently no wrestlers in the rankings who have not competed during the 2024-25 season. Missouri’s Rocky Elam was removed from the 197 lb ranking - which led to Mizzou taking a big tumble in the team tournament rankings. As always, once he returns he’ll be inserted in a fair position. You probably noticed that Yonger Bastida wrestled in one of Iowa State’s three duals at the Collegiate Duals. We still have Daniel Herrera in the rankings for the Cyclones as Bastida’s long-term status is still unclear. Speaking of the Cyclones, we expect Anthony Echemendia to drop to 141 and Paniro Johnson to 149. Once they actually get down and compete, they’ll be ranked at those weights. I had a question a few weeks ago about Richie Figueroa vs. Troy Spratley for the #2 spot at 125 lbs. Figueroa has only competed in three matches - but has the 2024 national title. Spratley finally jumps over Figueroa after his win over Eddie Ventresca. With that win, Spratley has 2024-25 wins over the wrestlers ranked in the #4-#7 slots. Oh yeah, by the way, Keegan O’Toole won the super match with Levi Haines and solidified his standing as #1 at 174 lbs. Penn State had Braeden Davis and Josh Barr move into the top-five at their respective weights. The Nittany Lions have top-five wrestlers at nine of ten weights. For the full rankings: Click Here

  16. Only reason I even knew who he was is because I saw Rutgers's Brian Soldano pin him for a state title. He's come a long way since then.

  19. Well, now she will. Sakurai vs Fujinami and their last match at 59kg this year wasn't particularly close with Fujinami winning. Sakurai never threatened at all because Fujinami is just way too fast for her-just like she's too fast for everybody at 53kg. Kiyooka vs Fujinami has just been utter ownage and Kiyooka is just completely outclassed by Fujinami. It's just not even close. Like I was also speculating earlier this year if Fujinami bumped up to 57kg, Susaki might bump up to 53kg since she's been at 48/50kg since she was 16 and now 25. Remina Yoshimoto(Olso 50kg WC) will slide into the 50kg spot if that does happen. Yoshimoto just beat Umi Ito yesterday in another very close Emperor's Cup finals match, 3-2. Susaki vs Moe Kiyooka(or possibly past 53/55kg WC Haruna Okuno) is going to be very, very good. Yoshimoto is better than Kiyooka, but this will be fun to keep an eye on. Mainly because Kiyooka and Sakurai are teammates, normal training partners, Olympic training partners and Moe Kiyooka's brother won the 65kg gold in Paris. Moe Kiyooka is the hungry dog here and just won the 53kg tournament. Haruna Okuno won the 55kg tourney(will eventually drop to 53kg, but probably not next year) with a come from behind win in the finals against high schooler Sowaka Uchida(1x U20 WC, 2x U17 WC). Okuno was up by 1 toward the end of the match. Uchida scored 1, Uchida had criteria and Okuno's corner challenged and lost. 3-2 Uchida with VERY short time left. Okuno kept the pressure on and got a feet to back for a 6-3 win right before the buzzer. PAST MEETINGS: 2024- Moe Kiyooka beat Haruna Okuno in the 55kg playoff finals, 3-2 and Kiyooka won the 2024 55kg Senior World title(teched Zhang of China in the finals). 2023- 55kg playoff tournament, Okuno beat Kiyooka 2-2 on criteria in the first round and Okuno won the 2023 55kg Senior World title(beat Jacarra in the finals, 4-2). But as far as making the National team goes, you have to win both tournaments (Emperor's Cup and Meiji Cup) to make the team. Susaki and Fujinami will most likely enter the Meiji Cup, try to win that tournament and force a playoff with Kiyooka at 53kg and Sara Natami at 57kg. Fujinami will dominate Natami pretty easily. Susaki and Kiyooka could be a very close match because although Kiyooka is really fast, Susaki is way faster and technically, much better.

  22. I think Hamiti is in this tier. People forget that Hamiti was undefeated going into Big 10’s last year and was winning against Mesenbrink before it looked like something happened in the match and he proceeded to lose 13-11.

  26. Speaking of, in the last sequence of scrambles in KOT-Haines, Levi was draped over KOT's shoulders with the inside leg hooked as he was coming up. A guy with length like Hamiti would've instantly spladled KOT. It looked like O'Toole was asking for it the way he was keeping low and giving that far leg to Haines.
