Getting a little off-topic here but what's new - haha. My grandfather is front row, second from left. He was the pilot in B17's and B24's. He could have gotten out after 20 missions, but he stayed the course until the war was over. The toughness of these 10 men is incredible. To all veterans on our board.... Thank you for your service.5 points

As I am cleaning up the All-American database I keep finding interesting things. At least I think they are interesting. And I think @ILLINIWrestlingBlog and @IlliniWrestling will find this one interesting. When going through the three time All-Americans list I came across Illinois' Lou Kachiroubas. What caught my eye was there was a seven year spread between his first and last AA. After Lou finished high school he worked to save money and then served in World War II. He finally entered UofI in 1946 at the tender age of 28 and immediately took second at 128 pounds. He repeated the feat in 1947 before dropping out of school, first to take a shot at the 1948 Olympics, and then to earn more money (could have used a little NIL, I am thinking). He finally returned to UofI in 1951 and in 1952, at 34 years young, he took third at 123 pounds. While he did not wrestle in the 1953 NCAA tournament, Lou did finish fourth in the Big 10 tournament at 35 freakin' years old. So when you feel a need to complain about grey shirt, red shirt, Olympic red shirt, Covid and injury years, just think of Sweet Lou Kachiroubas, and stop your belly aching. https://iwcoa.net/hall-of-fame-2/lou-kachiroubas/4 points

This looks like a snoozer. Princeton hammers graduated, Glory annd Monday. only match that may be worth watching is 184, Dugan of Princeton and Rogotzki of Indiana. Personally, I would like to see a bonus match ,between two old teammates. Dubuque and Escobedo3 points

Not the best photo, have better somewhere but my great uncle (grandfather's youngest brother) and crew. He was a Captain and the pilot. Last training was out of Pocatello. Recollection from talking to co-pilot (he was from ID) he an co-pilot flew the long trip from Pocatello to Africa then southern Italy, picked up full crew in Africa. If ever in Cannes France on July 4th they have an event every year at the crash site. I was there for 50th and 75th as well as one or two other times.3 points

I am secretly rooting for OSU this weekend so their former QB DJ Ugiungoley transfers to my OSU because my OSU is lacking a formidible quarterback so I am hoping for some good mojo. So go OSU.3 points

Wkn should get the benefit of the doubt. He isn't a rolling turdbiscuit nor has he ever been in any sort of that capacity on these or any forums. That said, I am sorry for my part in exacerbating the douche here. @Interviewed_at_Weehawken, I would like to move on to the CKLV. Can we have a badass day with that?3 points

well, we definitively know now what the 10% for the big guy was. not only was that phrase in an email, but the money (400k in hunter's and 40k in Joe's) were in their bank accounts. chalk up another conspiracy theory come true.3 points

Okay I have a dumb question. What is HFS? Second, It's okay to HEW. It is especially okay for Griffith to potentially HEW at the end of the semester. He literally saved so many Stanford sports. Not "just" wrestling. He put the team on his back like Greg Jennings in Madden. But he also is smart to get his Ross MBA paid for and then double down by getting paid. He doesn't even have to go to work for 2-4 years before applying like most T1 MBA candidates. I mean look back at his NCAA interview... he was ready to move on but he's a young businessman and $ talks. I hope he wins the whole damn thing as the shining star on top of the stellar career he has already had.2 points

Wittlake was heading out either way. He was not happy there before. He wanted to be 174 last year. Plott won the wrestleoff. Plott moving up to 184 is because of three reasons: No Sta(l)rocci, no Brooks, and 86 KG is the Olympic weight and he has Olympic aspirations. Your post is ignorant as all hell and precisely nothing to do with my actual reasoning.2 points

I see your point @Interviewed_at_Weehawken of the comparison.... but I am not sure it was intended to mean that. Only @Wrestleknownothing can answer that. I would chalk it up to poor wording, as I "think" he was trying to show Lou in a very good light having served in the war and work his way through college. Just my take.2 points

Welcome back all and I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend even though the football was terrible. This will be a light mailbag since I’m not feeling too hot and only have a few questions that aren’t even wrestling-related. I’m not even sure how to work in a name so Earl can use a picture for the header. I’ll remedy that right now and so I can’t wait to see Peyton Robb back on the mat at the Calvin Klein Las Vegas in a few hours. I’ve yet to catch a Nebraska meet this year and I’m thrilled that the current All-Jagger 157 guy has recovered from all he’s been through. On that note, time to read the mail. Can you do audio responses to your questions this week? IndianaMat You mean like a podcast? Just answer all the questions on the air? I suppose I could and I can certainly elaborate more on the topics at hand since I’m not exactly a master of the written word. But what would the Jagoffs do on the bowl in the morning? Read about the real world? It’s way too depressing. As a person who has been in a long-term relationship, do you have any dating advice for Seton Hall Pirate? Willie “The Brain” Saylor Not really. Make them laugh. That’s all I can really offer. Women want a man that can make them laugh. So while you’re in Vegas, think of some funny one-liners for him to say and get Pirate his booty. Also, ladies don't like a guy who tries to correct them constantly and Pirate can be a little much with that. I just noticed today that our local sandwich guy has added “Taylor Ham” next to “Taylor Pork Roll” on the list of menu items. Not sure how to react to this. Any help would be much appreciated since I know there is no such thing as Taylor Ham. Kevin McGuigan Welcome to the revolution. You Philly guys should know a thing or two about that. We live in a world of extreme tolerance now and you just have to accept the fact that folks from North Jersey may travel to Philadelphia and we don’t want to feel ostracized by your strange lingo. Why am I even arguing this? The Taylor Ham/Pork Roll debate is a Jersey thing and not a Pennsylvania thing. This local sandwich guy deserves a statue if you ask me. Best "unorthodox" cig lighting technique? -Plumber torch-looks great, but burns up the cig. Gas stove? Ok. Electric stove? Looks pretty desperate. -are zippos still cool? -are matches too hipster? Burger King of Kings Finally, someone is asking the right questions. There’s a lot going on here so I’ll try to cover it all without getting too long-winded. Let’s start with the torch. Unless you’re Scud in Blade 2 you shouldn’t even bother. It’s dangerous and stupid. Plus, Scud turned on Blade before getting blown up so no need to emulate that guy. Certainly, the gas stove is a tried and true method but it reeks of desperation and can also be dangerous. I’ve never used an electric stove, but I reckon it’s similar to the classic car lighter. You kids know them now as power adapters. Are matches too hipster? I suppose that can be true if you’re doing a neo-50’s greaser vibe or something. Now Zippos, that’s where it’s at. Probably the greatest invention in American history.2 points
