  1. Lest we forget, if climate scientists came out and said they’ve concluded humans can do little or nothing to change the direction the climate is going, they’d be out of their jobs (along with the hundreds of millions in grants). Obviously, we need to be better stewards of our planet, but the alarmist approach isn’t the right way to affect change. The push for “green” energy and “net-zero” is illogical and lacks efficacy. There are much pragmatic ways to spend that money. In the end, it doesn’t matter what we do in the US, when China is permitting 100 coal power plants/year, which will be online for decades to come. Again, I highly recommended giving the podcast I posted earlier a listen.

  2. When this first came out this was proven an inaccurate statement: blue states pay more and get less back from federal taxes. The reason, as Bigbrog pointed out, is that each state is different. California wages are higher than Mississippi, and even though Mississippi is a red state, it does have democrats there. Another example was that some states have military bases that a lot of federal dollars go to. Some states will get federal dollars for construction projects but the bid goes to out of state contractor and suppliers Federal dollars are spent on so many different things, in so many different states that change or move around from day to day, that it would be different by the time you calculated what they all are. The problem is, the amount of dollars they waste, and they continue to spend more than they have.

  3. Your take is such a partisan one it is almost laughable. You do realize that the reason Suckafornia contributes so much is they are taxed WAY more than say, Florida due to each individual states policies. And the reason for a state to receive funding is vast and should be taken into account when making such statements of "blue states" fund "red states". It is a reach at best to try and make any sort of deduction about "blue" or "red" states from how much federal funding a state gets. Each state would have to be looked at individually as to their balance sheet. It actually would have been fine if you said something like "According to some formula a group of people used, 7 out of 10 states that receive the most federal funding typically vote republican. You can NOT make any sort of comparative to one state versus the other because of it. Heck you can't really make a determination of "good" or "bad" in terms of the individual state depending on how much federal funding it receives. Overall it is a stupid way to look at things and a laughable way to try and divide further.

  6. Kamal Bey looked fantastic in this tournament. So excite! He is dynamic and quick, and he's gotten smart and savvy as well. I don't have a deep base of knowledge about Greco, but if there's anybody better at slipping a gut wrench or a lift, and then turning it into his own points, I'd like to meet that man. Oh, I almost forgot power. The winning takedown he had against Iran looked like a truck hit him. That Iranian has to have whiplash. We also got treated to a nice Bey Bomb. Joe Rau beat an Iranian. He has a powerful gut wrench, and teched him with it. If he gets his gas tank in order, he could be very dangerous. Thing is, he's also a comedian doing Improv Comedy in Chicago. He's got a day job ... er night job in other words. Finally, Zac Braunagel had a tough, tough draw. He faced a World Champion/Olympic medalist from Azerbaijan. Zac was big time in it until the end, though, losing 1-2. Moreover, he tired the guy out so he couldn't advance and pull Zac back in. The Metcalf story. In any event, I appreciated your real time coverage of all the things that I missed. Cheers!

  8. Well I know ( for Greco ) that this isn’t the results that we had hoped for, but I think that there was some bright spots with Bey’s Silver medal, and other guys picking up some wins here and there and battling tough. Hopefully these guys can find something to build on.

  27. For the ILLINI RTC, Kamal Bey is into the Semis. Had a win over the Iranian Junior World Champ from a couple years back, then beat a Czech, and most recently, the Georgian. The Bey Bomb came against the Czech. Zac Braunagel had a first-round match against an Olympic medalist and World Champ from Azerbaijan. He lost 1-2, but did an incredible job. He belongs there. IRTC-adjacent Joe Rau lost in the quarters, but won today as well. ... And before I could finish typing this up, Kamal Bey beats the Hungarian in the semis and will be a FINALIST! Dang, they're wrestling'em faster than I can watch'em!

  28. Davison's best guys on those teams...Chase and Brent Metcalf, John Reader, Paul Donahoe, Chad Rousch, Casey Streeter, Trevor and Travis Perry, and Joe and John Whitman. St. Edwards has had many great teams as well as St. Paris Graham....not saying the 1981 St. Ed's team is there best....I like the '82 team, but the '81 team had Pat Welch 3rd, and 5 state champs who all went on to Division 1 success. Greg Wright, Jim Heffernan, Greg Elinsky, Joe Silvestro and Bill Elbin.

  34. First off, I said performance art history, sort of assuming it isn’t even a real degree. I should’ve just said under water basket weaving to be clear, I just meant a degree without a high enough earning potential to warrant $130k of debt. Second, I have no idea about this loan forgiveness. If they are trying to address a government f’up, well, that’s a good thing. If they are doing creative accounting to make it appear there was an f’up (or cover more than the actual f’up), then that’s not a good thing. Again, I have read nothing about this. My “loan forgiveness” is more of a universal idea, aside from whatever the current thing is. Third, I do think it is insane to loan someone as much money for an art history degree as for an engineering degree. There is a ridiculous amount of information out there (that the government has undoubtedly already collected), that could be analyzed to come up with some sort of lending algorithm. Base it off the median salary of holders of specific degrees and the country’s need/ the job outlook for people with those degrees.

  35. And perhaps you could take a basic math class. The average is meaningless for this situation. The average has a massive right skew due to ultra-high earners. The median means more, but really what the bottom quartile or less earn is the real issue. Unless you are talking about redistributing income so that all college grads are making $1.9 million more than non-college grads? You Democrats are all the same.

  40. I see the lineup looking like this and it includes 2 true freshman! 125 - Kilkeary/McCrone - expect McCrone to get the start and then maybe in late January switch to Kilkeary after his 5 matches are up 133 - Bouzakis - Should be in the top 4 and maybe higher, especially if Vito takes an olympic redshirt 141 - Mendez/Decatur - I think Mendez just wants to compete; someone mentioned Decatur is in the portal and could still move on. 149 - D'Emilio/Herman - DD has been cutting hard, last season to compete, eat and enjoy. 157 - Sasso/Wilcox - Sammy has looked good up at 70 KG for freestyle, this is probably a sign that he has moved on from 149. 165 - Hepner/Paddy/Wilcox - Most interesting lineup battle for sure. Would like one of these guys to distance himself, but honestly wouldn't even know who to bet on? 174 - Kharchla/Welsh- Although he blew big leads in the U23s, I don't see that happening in folkstyle. Length could be an issue at 174 but gas tank hopefully won't be. 184 - Rogotzke/Shumate - 2x super 32 champ doesn't happen by accident, I think Ryder is the real deal and goes right away. 197 - Hoffman/Geog - I heard on a podcast that Hoffman had a hamstring issue at the back end of last year, looking forward to a healthy Hoffman. Since no redshirt available, could see these guys splitting duty and maybe a late season wrestle off? 285 - Feldman - Excited for him to get his chance! Curious for those that are close to the program, does Tom ever look at late season lineup changes that aren't injury related? I could see Kilkeary and Rogotzke coming on a little later in the season and maybe worth putting them in the lineup late December/January. Any precedent for that besides Myles Martin which worked out quite well! Also wonder with the battles at 165, do they wrestle by committee until someone outperforms?
