  1. Ok...so what is the child is born with horrific birth defects and they're not going to make it? Do they intubate? Try and keep them alive as long as humanly possible? My Cousin...4 kids at the time, had her 5th. About 6 months in found it it wasn't viable. There was a CHANCE it would be born alive, but it was NOT in good shape. She had the option of aborting it, she chose not to, gave birth, it was alive and they asked if they wanted to put it on a ventilator, etc... My Cousin said no because it was just cruel. I don't recall what exactly the disorder was, but it had an organ on the outside, it had certain parts of his body only partially developed and it was in agony. But they COULD have kept it alive for a few weeks maybe. Is THAT what this bill advocates? Why are they so concerned with dictating what a Doctor and a Mother choose to do?

  5. It seems like a mutated vision quest and that he's actually avoiding competition. My guess is that he thinks he won't make the final at 133 over a world silver medalist and a guy who has beaten that guy twice in the finals. So the play is to fight the weight battle, get a 2 or 3 seed and be on the other half of the draw from Shute, be well hydrated for Friday night and win the semis, cut hard overnight, weigh in, get over 140 for Saturday night, and hope for the best, or more likely that Shute tears whatever L's are still in his legs while marching to the final.

  6. Year 1: 285 title winner Year 2: 174 title winner Year 3: 149 title winner Year 4: 125 title winner Hodge in all four years, two Olympic golds as a college freshman (FS and Greco) without an Olympic redshirt. Undefeated throughout college and also served as head coach four all four years.

  8. Mark Schultz bumped up a weight to stop Ed Banach from being the first 4 timer. He stated that as his goal. And he did it. I think this would be great theatre for Lee and Iowa, but in the end, is it a wise move? With Lee's history of injury, it might be best to not go for theatre. If Lee was 100%, never injured, why not? It would be a great match to watch. mspart

  9. Unless Lee was 100% (and he is not) it would be stupid to bump him. Simple as that. Not sure what the hell you guys have been discussing over the last 3 pages??

  10. I think Woods/Alirez might just be the match of the tourney this year. Haven’t seen Woods yet, but Alirez has RBY-type speed and stingy defense. I was gonna say he won’t be threatened, but Woods’ results are impressive. Not so sure Hardy has separated from the pact the way those 2 have. I’m really pulling for T-Nick to get a champ at NCO.

  11. It’s Iowa’s only real chance to win the dual. They can throw in Ayala to get the major at 125. Even if Lee loses by dec, it is a wash, but if he wins Iowa can pull off the upset. This should happen. I realize there are lots of excuses in the Iowa camp why it won’t happen. Lee has only been back from injury for a few weeks; he is too small; it might hurt his confidence for NCAAs; it hurts his legacy. But about that legacy. How does Lee want to be remembered? As the guy from the other weekend, who got salty at his coaches for having to wrestle a teammate, and bow isn’t willing to bump up to help his team win a dual? Or as the “excuses are for wusses” guy who put it on the line for glory and a big dual win? It’s their last year. Their last big dual. They can mail in techs or they can do something memorable — for the ages. It would be a new record for the most NCAA titles on the mat at the same time. I’m sure RBY would welcome it. What about you Spencer?

  12. I love hearing those who are getting played arrogantly claim the other side is getting played. The instances of abortion that are morally acceptable to most people (health of the mother, rape, insest) are few compared to abortion used as birth control. Yet those examples are always the ones brought up by the pro kill babies crowd to show how out of control pro-lifers are. Both sides play us against each other on most issues. Politicians aren't our friends and they don't care about us.

  13. People are counting Lee's chickens way before they are hatched. Glory is on a vision quest. 24/7, He walks around with a copy of The Art of War that Sun Tzu personally autographed for him 2 years ago. He has chapter 6 bookmarked and reads it every morning and night.

  16. Not a cycle, I exaggerated for convenience. But yes most of the current tournaments are much younger than the posters here and most of ones from the 70s, 80s are no longer around. Tbilisi used to be a big tournament, gone. Some may carry a name, but new location, management, and dubious connections to the previous event.

  17. Lack of prize money- by far the number one reason. They are not essential for the established wrestlers to get ready for big events. Especially if you have high level domestic training partners. It also doesn't help that most of these tournaments disappear after a cycle, so they're never around long enough to develop an identity.

  20. I think we're agreeing too much. This is getting scary. Now, for the serious part... This is exactly the way it should be. We should not let the politicians, media, rich and powerful, whoever, divide us constantly. We need to be pragmatic and look at what is best for the country and ALL of its citizens. OK. I'm down off the soap box.

  22. For me is this match-up would happen it would be for a one-day fan appreciation moment. It would say nothing about either wrestler's legacy. This would be for the fans. It wouldn't be for the team or the individual. It would be fun, but it isn't happening in today's NCAA where it is hard enough to get two great guys at the same weight to even face off against each other.

  23. At this point I don't see that Figs has legit earned the spot. @RegularStalling makes a fair point... Courtney has faced the better competition in Glory and Barnett - his two losses. His common opponents Ungar and Surtin he beat soundly where Figs went to TB with Ungar and a 2 point win over Surtin. In comparing the two performances, Courtney has performed better. I get that Figs is the future, but that doesn't necessarily gain him the spot if he is not the better wrestler, however Zeke did go with the future when he put Chlebove in at the PAC-12 ...and he finished last. I would be interested to see what a 2 out of 3 wrestle off would look like between the two or if that is even a consideration for the spot.

  28. Is it just me, or is Zeke using this lineup controversy as a way to shield Figueroa? If Figs was to go into the tournament 20-0 with his best win being Kaylor (hypothetically) and Ramos, what type of seed would he get?

  30. Surprised by this result....Even with Norfleet and Shultz in the lineup the tie would have went to Princeton I believe. This two days after Oregon State handled Princeton. Are Negron, Norfleet and Schultz injured right now? Haven't seen Norfleet in awhile.

  33. Ybarra majoring Steen is funny. Ybarra has one bonus win in his career …over a D2 guy (in a tournament where he only got decisions over 2 D3 guys). Ybarra has only 1 win over a D1 starter, last year against Chauvin of Army in SV…and Chauvin finished the year 3-16. I’d say Ybarra/Steen is a tossup at best, and zero chance Ybarra majors him.

  34. RBY is wrestling a light schedule and if he is going to make a run at 2024 it will need to be at 57kg. Start practicing now. Owings went down to find Gable. It's a shame RBY wasn't confident enough in himself to do the same. He's already beat Fix so another title at 133 isn't going to change his legacy. Makes you wonder if Cael is protecting his ego.

  35. Responding to some criticisms … — fair point about Ayala’s shirt but throw out Ybarra instead, who is still a heavy favorite over Steen. Ybarra just beat Cory Land up at 133 and Steen is way undersized at 125. I have to think Brands has been keeping Ybarra’s weight within reaching distance in the event of a Lee injury. Ybarra likely bonuses Steen. — Iowa likely needs this. PSU has 4 champs, another #1 guy, and is favored at 157. Iowa likely needs to take 2 of those to win. Maybe Cass/Warner can take one between them, maybe, but they need another. It’s a huge swing if Lee pulls it off. — if they aren’t sure they can have the dual end at 133 so they have the option. Cael could say no but I doubt he would. Neither he nor Tom are big on duals but both are advocates of filling up the arena. — whoever suggested I am questioning Lee’s toughness or team loyalty, you are mistaken. I think Lee would consider doing this precisely because he IS tough and willing to make sacrifices for his team. I’m a big fan. The only hits his reputation have been from inside the Iowa bubble (eg that he is a prima donna who won’t practice with the team and/or is resentful over having to wrestle a teammate), and this is a good way to silence those ungrateful critics. — the only one with anything to lose here is RBY. Lee is poised to be a 4x’er, but even Iowa fans aren’t picking him over RBY. If RBY wins, people will have expected it. It Lee wins he has the Hodge locked up, if he loses, it gets thrown out as an off-weight loss, or at worst leads to him sharing the Hodge with Yianni as 1-loss 4xers. Lee should want this. But I don’t think RBY ducks Lee if he comes for him. — the reasons to make this happen are countless. Duals don’t matter, but this is effectively the dual meet championship. They are both seniors. The two most decorated wrestlers in a single NCAA match ever. Whatever the outcome, there would be an outpouring of respect for both. It should happen.

  37. https://rollcall.com/2023/01/11/house-finds-bipartisan-agreement-on-a-china-focused-committee/ The House Tuesday easily adopted the resolution establishing the Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. The vote was 365-65, with more than 140 Democrats joining all the Republicans to support the measure. But at least one Democrat also warned against turning the panel into a vehicle of "anti-Asian hate." At least one D was concerned this would become an anti-Asian hate thing. Ok Chicken Little, the sky will fall if we set up a committee. Vote was 365-65, it sounds like 140 Ds did not have that concern, at least not enough to vote no. Bipartisan action the first week. How about that. Everyone should be doing a happy dance. mspart

  40. Word on the street is that Tom Brands has been coaching with an injury the last few weeks. Apparently one of the starters hurt his feelings. May not recover until NCAAs but not expected to be career threatening. I think we will find out this weekend in Iowa City how the rehab is coming along.

  42. how about: Make the TrackWreslting brackets work like FloArena (they own both properties so pick one!) Why do we have to go thru 10 levels of button clicks to get to a bracket only then to now be able to read the bottom of the bracket due to the add strip. Why are they running two diffirent systems.
