I can't speak to CA law specifically, but that "eavesdropping" law typically only applies to audio recordings/phone calls and not video (even though the video includes audio).

I don't think the video makes a difference here.  Maybe if they were just recording video, but recording the audio is likely a problem.

I doubt any of these kids are on wrestling scholarships. These kids could've chosen other schools to wrestle at but they chose CBU. They should be getting a "thank you" from the AD for agreeing to represent CBU.

Yea as of last year they had 34 wrestlers with 9.9 scholarships, most of those kids aren’t getting anything out of that 9.9 and it’s a private school and anyone not on scholarship pays at least 55k a year so I’d say those wild overpriced tuitions paid for those singlets and the ADs (probably grossly overpaid) salary

Failing to comply with the verbal and/or written directions or directives of a University Official and/or failing to provide a University Official with adequate identification upon request;

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

The financial aid packages for CBU students are pretty good... they have set scholarships for GPA, Cal grants and many other grants and scholarships.

Controversial opinion:  This is why I hate the "Save [insert school who is dropping wrestling] Wrestling campaigns to raise money.  These administrators are incompetent and don't care about the sport or the athletes.  Handing them money to save a program they don't care about doesn't help.

I would rather we raise money for That schools biggest rival to start or bolster their wrestling team than try and save one for a school whose administrators act like that.

I hope all of the CBU wrestlers find a team or school that can help them but I don't wish anything well upon the CBU institution.

I'd rather see the program get saved and the C-Bap athletics dept staff pressured and replaced with folks who are more supportive of non-revenue sports.

I'm sure he is doing alright as an administrator in California.  I am sure he is not struggling to pay his rent.

The average salary for an Athletic Director at California Baptist University (CBU) is approximately $110,251 per year, according to data from Indeed. This role generally commands a salary range between roughly $80,488 and $151,021 based on experience and specific responsibilities

140K in riverside CA, assuming he has a family, is not much at all. You need to be over 300K a year in California to have a comfortable life for your family.

He's been doing it for 10+ years. If he had been in law 10+ years, he would be a partner at a firm and making 5X that or more.

What a scumbag. He thinks he's doing them a favor by letting them wrestle. They're doing CBU the favor by representing their school on the mat. Very Christian of him.

Never trust Christian types who advertise it.

In this case, if the program is not saved, the money raised will go to the West Coast Regional Training Center

wear the singlets inside out

I was at both of their matches on their Dakotas swing; a few wrestlers did this on Friday night against SDSU and then did not on Sunday afternoon against NDSU . . . I'm assuming the Administration stepped in with similar threats then

Seems like a 20 year old college kid is the epitome of "judgement proof" and I can't imagine many lawyers would take the case on contingency. Sure, you could have your in house legal team try to collect a debt, but the reality is, that just isn't their area of the law and they wouldn't touch it either.

Epitome of judgement proof to me is someone who is homeless, a criminal that is in prison, bankrupt corporations, etc.  Recent college graduates might have no income and no assets, but their future earning potential is so great that they are routinely loaned tens of thousands of dollars by both private lenders and the government.  Judgements in CA are good for 10 years and the unpaid balances accrue interest at a rate of 10% annually.  Is the student going to remain judgement proof for 10 years?  Probably not and even if he does the judgement could be renewed before the ten year mark too.

A judgement could definitely be worth pursuing against a college kid if damages are considerable.

Would've been funny if the wrestlers switched into the black singlets right before their match and the admins. that went along to audit had to shoot in on them to stop them from stepping onto the mat.

In what what ways does wokeism have its hands all over wrestling? Is it woke for an establishment that is private to require its athletes to follow its rules?
