I have to say, having your program's largest donor publicly calling out wrestlers (and even giving odds on Williams' actually making it on the Iowa roster) is a surprising move to me.  Could this have anything to do with Bassett's decommitment?

"I give Jordan's shot to be on the team at one chance in two. The reason I am posting this is because if he is on the team, he needs everyone to encourage him to "Live the Wrestler Life", not the party boy life. You can bet I will. There are consequences to this detrimental behavior. Same with Gabe in other ways. I'll be all over them."

It’s not a bad thing when done privately. Putting them on blast on a public Internet forum is what I find objectionable. Also how is Jordan supposed to feel when Bob tells the world he thinks there’s only a 50% chance he makes the team?

When you're not a coach and severely overstepping in your role of "holding kids accountable."

Also...mentioning Gabe Arnold?

The Once Great Iowa Wrestling Program is starting to hit Rock Bottom ( as a Program)...Bring in Anyone who can't get through Admissions and a Donor who thinks he's George Steinbrenner from the NY Yankees...The difference is that Steinbrenner was the owner of the Team and this guy is a Donor Who RUNS Iowa wrestling these days

Seems like the Jordan comments are fair game given he was arrested with another alcohol related offense. Don’t know anything about Gabe or whatever is going on there though so maybe that is out of bounds but other than that it doesn’t seem like anything to me.

Yes - I was shocked that a donor (even if he's the biggest one) is allowed this level of access/control over wrestlers.  Scary, frankly.

It's ugly, but honestly, Nicolls just saying the quiet part out loud. This is the new reality, where wrestlers aren't just beholden to their coaches, but also to their NIL sponsors.  In some ways, even more so.  The coach can make you run sprints or do pushups if you screw up, but your NIL sponsor can work the levers in the NIL agreement to minimize your comp if you don't perform to your sponsor's expectations.

What's more, many boosters who pay big NIL bucks aren't doing it because it's economically sensible (as it usually isn't).  They're doing it so they can have a sense of power and control over their favorite sports team, and/or because they want to be able to brag to their buddies about it and be seen by them as influential.  So the quiet part is getting said out loud more and more.

Ain't that the truth. Bro literally has his name on the wrestling room and it's not enough. In the future though, deep-pocketed entities will likely be able to take equity stakes in athletic programs once pay-for-play really gets going. ADs and department stakeholders are going to have to learn to live with ceding control of their programs

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that he's calling out the lifestyles of two of the potential three African-Americans on the roster.

How many times has he been sued for racial discrimination in his rentals?

Jesus fookin Christ dude. There was nothing racially motivated about that post whatsoever. For someone who obviously lurks on HR like it's a part time job I guess you missed the many posts Bnicky has made that were positive about Iowa wrestlers, including Buchanan and Real Woods?

Gabe Arnold apparently was partying, or at least not taking training seriously last off season. Perhaps he is reverting to some of those habits this off season and that is what Bob was referring to.

I get that you are a passionate hater but this is utter weak sauce and limpdick behavior

Edit: Bnicky gives me the creeps and this post wasn't an endorsement of his posts or behavior across carte blanche. Rather, I think the attempt to take this a point it doesn't need to go to is what I was railing against

When you post it in a pompous, threatingly way.

So Nicolls is talking like he runs the program at the same time Brands is telling Bassett's mom to not tell him how to run the program?

Did I follow along correctly today?

Lol yes god forbid someone pay their rent. That darn evil guy who is honoring a contract signed between two parties in accordance with state and federal law. People should just be able to break a lease and live for free.

If you agree with evicting cancer stricken people who are attending chemo (his lawyer's quote btw, see below for the full context, which is even worse somehow!) so you can pay a HS kid a ton of money to wrestle at your preferred school then I don't know what to tell you. But hey, gotta evict grandma so Bob can get his name on a building!

“We evict grandparents who are poor, evict cancer-stricken people who are attending chemo. It’s sad,” Chase said on his YouTube channel after the first CARES Act eviction moratorium took effect. “What’s sadder is that somebody who purchases property for hundreds of thousands of dollars is given the finger by the law.”

Although I'm not going to say he's guilty of race discrimination (and I'm not aware of any evidence he's singling out Iowa wrestlers on that basis), you do raise a point that I think is too often overlooked, which is -- there is ZERO oversight of NIL donors.

Nicolls could literally make a public post saying, "I hate black people so I'll never do a NIL deal with one. But bring on the whiteys, I'll fund you all day."  Or, "I'll pay blacks half of what I pay whites."  And he could mean EVERY word of it.  But as far as I can tell, there's not a damn thing Iowa could do about it.

Well, they could claim to "sever ties" with him, but that really means nothing, since the entire point of NIL is that athletes are free to contract with third party donors and the schools/NCAA can't stop that.

That means people like Nicolls can racially discriminate, they can mock someone for their disability, they can discriminate against someone for their religion.  The only thing that binds them is the letter of their contract, and the university has to watch silently by in horror as donors engage in ugly behavior.

As it is, there's a truckload of evidence of racial disparity in NIL deals.  It's a basically legalized discrimination.  Which is ironic, considering that part of the argument that got us here in the first place was that the NCAA was operating a "plantation" to get "free black labor," etc etc.

But whatever.  This is the universe people wanted, and that's what they got.

Why do you say only Nichols?  Lots of independent wealthy boosters out there.

But no, not Lubert.  Lubert's a trustee, so PSU retains some control over him.
