If you are a kid on a scholarship, the first one from your family to go to a college, and you are entirely unfamiliar with big college environments, you may have nothing to fall back on, and causing a stink with a university professional is a great way to get kicked out, especially since most college athletes felt like they were typically persona non-grata away from their sporting environment anyway.

This dude put student athletes in a position to choose their dignity or their future, career etc.

Horrifyingly calculated behavior.

Well... I don't know why they'd be persona non-grata away from their athletic circle, but... ok. Not really the main point.

I said it's obviously not that simple... but I won't be able to understand.

In many schools there is a lot of stigma around being the dumb kids who are only there because they got in the easy way, and the athlete's only lifeline to legitimacy on campus is through their sporting endeavors.  "In exchange for being a good part of our team, we give you this education in exchange" sort of a thing.

Obviously it's not universal, but it is very common.

I'm sure he got his arse beat a few times during that stretch.  No way he molested 200 people without getting his face smashed in.

He molested close to 2800 people. He raped near 200

This article gives a really good perspective from some of the actual wrestlers who were abused on how the "big tough wrestlers" could let this happen.

I read it and bookmarked when the story first came out as it really help me understand the situation and by extension other victims of abuse. It is behind a paywall now, but many of their points have been echoed in this thread.

Everyone is always the hero of their own fantasy.

If this is intended as a backhanded swipe at some of us, you are not credible.

Not perfect here. But, have lost a number of jobs from stepping in to stop egregious behavior. Also have awards from Law Enforcement(including FBI) for stepping in and stopping some illegal activity at times & physically dropping some in commission of crimes. When younger, probably would not do it. Later High School, University, Military - to hell with them & go for it.

WHY the chickenshiz Football QB on Paternos staff did not step into the shower and beat hell ouf of Sandusky is beyond me. He went home, thought about it & "let joe know".

Shock & surprise may be understandable, but inaction on following up after reporting rapes and such - inexcusable.  Attorneys need to get involved and go after leadership at the Universities at every level. Administration understands Dollars paid out, not much else.

As for the Catholic fiasco, watch the movie SPOTLIGHT, it is pretty accurate as to how this came to light.

” Never attribute to inspiration that which can be adequately explained by delusion”.

If you were truly familiar with the history, the QB did NOT SEE anything;  he only thought he heard things that were strange, and after some time thinking about it and the possibilities that he went to PSU football staff to report what he heard.

I have to agree with this. It’s hard for me to imagine that many people did not say or anything. Not trying to victim blame at all. I can’t imagine how that would affect someone and I can understand that some may have not known what to do. But if the number posted below by TN are even close to true, I would think the sheer number would dictate that there would be some who would respond by either beating the crap out of him or reporting him to the police.

So you're saying none of this ever happened?

Nah, I just prefer reading more positive things from the knowledgeable dudes that makes this forum such a great source of info. Leave the negative crap to the second and third tier rooms.

I sure hope the "knowledgeable" dudes show up soon and tell how to process this in a tier one way...:classic_dry:

We see the problem through the lens of adults with life experience.  The victims at Ohio State were 23 and younger and working within a lopsided power dynamic.

He also did it under the guise of medical treatment. He didn't just jack people off and get away with it. He'd gauge the victim and slowly progress to what he thought he could get away with. The dude was smart, a leading researcher in multiple fields. Got his education from Penn, University of Chicago, and Harvard. Multiple victims said as they were about to say something to him, he'd chime in with a rebuttal. He claimed he had to check their lymph nodes in their groin for infection. Had to check their testicles I'm guessing for masses. Had to get them naked to see their skeletal structure and check their gait. Told them "you're like a thoroughbred horse, we need to make sure you're running on all cylinders and check everything". A lot of them didn't realize they were getting abused until they found out that 1. What he was doing was not medical treatment or valid and 2. After the Michigan state scandal became public.

A lot of the people that complained were convinced later that is wasn't abuse. He tried to get the doctor who finally got him fired's medical license revoked. He had lawyers threaten kids who reported him. There's countless reasons.

Unfortunately, you would've gotten kicked out of the school, arrested, and probably blacklisted from wrestling for being the macho man had you been in that situation.

From the “ignorant” lazy emoji posts you routinely present, you certainly ain’t one of them. Hey McPhillipo, perhaps your time might be better spent with family than 24/7 here. 😎
