Haven't we had others train in Dagestan?

I expect so.  However, were they wrestlers that are no longer competing going with the express purpose to train Russian wrestlers to win worlds?  Who has done that?

Do we know that is what he's doing?

Thank you for giving Gable's initial of his last name to not confuse with Dan Gable!

Indeed... because Dan G is a bit "long in the tooth?"😉

(Besides... I sure his hip and knee replacements couldn't withstand Sad's a leg attacks. 😬 OUCH! )

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He might have failed at so many careers that he's ready to try Yak farming and going to dagestan is just a coincidence.

Well sure maybe but I bet if you told him that to his face he could still rip you arm off.

Well then... I better make sure I have someone quadruple velcro strap them to my sides (so he won't hit me w/the wet end, if I don't! 😉 )

OR... run like H E double toothpicks !!!

If this helps other guys to have the chance to train with more Russians, I think it is a good thing. Snyder is no longer in a place to compete with Sadulaev imo so from a USA on Russia standpoint I do not think it really matters. If Gable can help get more Russians to do RAF that's also awesome.

Guessing the money was right

I wonder if they'd pay him in cash. His credit and debit cards won't work there, and he wouldn't be able to electronically transfer money to or from Russia. Gable may also have to do something weird, like swap his Rubles for Yuan, then exchange the Yuan for USD when he returns, just to get a decent rate. Most Russians don't know or don't care who Gable is either, so who knows how randos outside of the wrestling community would treat him. Would be a tough trip. The current administration bans federal employees from traveling into that part of Russia.

All of that being said: Sadz doesn't need Gable in the room.

Simplest answer - he is getting paid.  Done.  (Likely could be paid in US dollars)

Other conjecture here about other motives may be right.  Would love to hear more from the horses mouth if so.

If simply getting paid, not a fan.  I know clubs pay some foreigners to come here and train with US guys.  It being Russia in this instance rubs me wrong.

Everything Gable does rubs somebody wrong. Is there something he could do to give everyone a good rub?

He is doing what he feels best is for him and not only does that rub the right way, I very much encourage everyone to pursue what they feel is best for them. It's a business and he is pursuing what he feels is best. I just have a hunch the ROI won't be the same as he expects which is a big difference from "rubs the wrong way."

I truly believe Gable Steveson is no different than a 7'1 phenom basketball player. Forced into the game. Dominated the game first as a physical phenom and then later as an elite-skilled phenom among phenoms. Passion for the game doesn't match what everyone else expects. So he chose his own path. Nothing wrong with that, it's just his teases which rubbed a majority rapid-reaction snowflake fanbase the wrong way.

I think it's pretty standard in a globalized world to try to learn from the best practitioners in whatever field you're in. They are unlikely to ever face each other for real and Snyder isn't Sadulaev's main obstacle anymore, as far as we can tell.
