God I hate people(some people).

I think on top of wishing our best to the Askren family, we can also...wish our worst to this POS. For the record, I don't recall Askren saying anything about the vaccine, but...I also don't care as he doesn't have the state initials for Maryland in front of his fckn name, so...I don't care what he says about vaccines.

Don't understand why he points that out out of nowhere. Maybe he's dumb enough to  think a vaccine would have saved him from bacteria.

Yeah, he loves to be that guy.

This has become such a...sickening aspect of Covid that...sadly, people won't let die.

-I've seen so many people ask if Askren "got the jab," and now this guy. I continue to refuse to believe people like this are in any way normal/speak for the majority of "their side," anywhere but social media.

Chael put out a video update.  I hesitate to link it at all, since it sounds like he's largely just parroting the unverified stuff that's already out there on social media, but it does seem he's trying to be careful.

I think it's more of a 'he has it coming for telling people to not get vaccinated.'

There were people who thought you were endangering others if you didn't get vaccinated. And that made sense... until the vaccine was actually available of maybe shortly after when we found out, you're MARGINALLY less likely to transmit if you have it(if that was even true) and by telling people not to get it, people were at a higher risk for death.

I don't know, I don't care, a lot of people had strong opinions about Covid. I had opinions about Covid...but, again, no MD in front of my name and Covid is over.

People did this with Jamie Foxx on a CRAZY level. Claiming he had to get the vaccine to make a movie and now he has a blood clot and he's had a aneurism as a result or whomever.

Continuing to litigate something people didn't understand at the time...a couple years later is annoying enough.

Bringing it up when a guy is battling for his life is... disgusting.

I still don't understand why this happened to him. Just really bad luck? It sounds like his immune system catastrophically failed on him and now all these infections are wrecking his body?

He was losing weight, watching his diet, is still youngish,  was exercising daily, his parents are both still alive.

I've saw... from a distance mostly, but got updates from my Cousin regularly...as her 16 year old Son, an elite athlete got cancer and went through hell. Put in multiple medically induced coma's because they were giving them so much pain medication, if they'd have increased it, it would have died.

She had periods where their lungs kept filling and they were at the Mayo Center and hoping it would turn solid(I don't understand this to be clear) so they could take it out as it was drowning them.

They were an elite athlete, they were 2nd in their class.

And some child molesting Priests or a former Nazi will live to 100 or older. There's not a good why.

We all have cancer in our bodies, the only question is if something else gets us first. Most athletes have staph.

Trying to figure out why is a pretty normal question, but a fools errand. It's never a good enough answer(at least that's been my experience). Though... it's easier if this is a guy who smokes 2 packs a day for 40 years. I'll just dd this. I mean, I get it, you do all the things you should and your body betrays you.

Has it been definitively confirmed that Askren developed the pneumonia from staph or is that still a rumor? Though potentially not relevant to Askren's condition, pneumonia can be caused by viruses such as influenza and coronavirus.  There are vaccines available for both of those viruses.

Come on man.  I took the vax, but this isn't the time.

I wasn't making a moral judgement ("how could this happen to such a good person....."). I'm not that naive. I was more pondering the biological mechanisms of his conditions, since it seems that he either has something very rare or was just very unlucky.

If Ben had gotten cancer, I would not be surprised at all. I think cancer is still like the 4th biggest killer in young adults.

Oh...my bad.

I guess...just bad luck. I don't know. I didn't pick up on the fact that you were asking a rhetorical question. My bad.

It would be classless for someone to dunk on or say I told you so to a person in Askren's condition.  I don't know what caused Askren's pneumonia.  I don't what vaccines he may have taken.  And I don't know what he has said one way or the other on the topic of vaccines. Regardless I hope he makes a full recovery.

Pneumonia can be caused by ether a virus or bacteria.  There are vaccines available for some of the viruses that cause it.  There is also a vaccine available for the pneumococcus bacteria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumococcal_vaccine

I'm sorry, what the hell am I missing? How is HE classless?

Can't be this part. We all agree with this;

Ignorance...as most of us are about the cause or his vaccination history. Still...hoping he makes a full recovery.

Still not seeing what's classless yet.

This surely can't be it.

This is just... information how it could have gotten it a number of different ways and in no way focuses on Askren's personal issue or lies any "blame" or does anything to show any lack of class...so far as I can see.
