Febuary 2019 is the last time Oklahoma State beat Iowa in a dual meet.

New coach David Taylor's first effort was a good one but his guys met an Iowa squad ready & willing to scrap with them.

Will they do it this year? Will a year in the room & getting "his guys" into the rotation make the difference?

Tom Brands loves handing it to the Cowboys. Will his guys do it again this coming season?

I got a 5-5 split but OSU gets bonus at 125 for the team win. Lots of toss ups though

going to be completely honest I think with these two lineups each team has 1 for sure win 125 for OKST and 285 for Iowa. Iowa is definitely favored at 133,165,174,184 but those all feel like matches OKST could win. I think I would favor OKST at 149. 157 and Bailey 141 who knows if Bailey is healthy at 141 I would favor him.

Troy Spratley is not getting bonus on Dean Peterson.

125: Spratley dec. Peterson (3-0 OSU)

133: Ayala dec. Figs (3-3) Figs is 1-0 against Ayala though IIRC?

141: Jamison dec. Bailey (6-3 OSU)

149: Swiderski dec. Williams/Alvarez (9-3 OSU)

157: Williams/Alvarez dec. Travis (9-6 OSU)

165: Caliendo dec. Lockett (9-9)

174: Kennedy dec. Facundo (12-9 IOWA) I actually think this is a complete toss-up

184: Ferrari dec. Ryder (15-9 IOWA)

197: Merrill dec. Masome (15-12 IOWA)

285: Keuter dec. Doucet (18-12 IOWA)

That being said, I wouldn't be very surprised to see results flip at 125, 133, 157, 165, 174, or 184. I think all of those matches are within the margins. That's potential for a lot of swing in the dual. It should be a treat. I see more upside for OSU than Iowa, but Iowa seems to be a clear favorite going in, so that makes sense.

125: Spratley dec Peterson. 3-0 🤠

133: Ayala dec. Figs. 3-3

141: Jamison/Vega dec Bailey 6-3. 🤠

149: Swiderski dec Williams. 9-3 🤠

157: Robideau dec Alvarez. 12-3 🤠.

  • Caveat: If it's Teague, I'll say Alvarez dec. Teague. 9-6 &nbsp🤠

165: Caliendo dec. Lockett. 12-6 🤠 (or 9-9)

174: PK dec. Facundo. 12-9 🤠 (or 12-9 🐤)

184: Ferrari dec. Ryder. 12-12 (or 15-9 🐤)

197: Merrill mdec. Endene 16-12 🤠 (or 15-13 🐤)

285: Keuter mdec. Doucet 16-16  (or 19-13 🐤)

As a cowboy fan, I see a path, but I'm not holding my breath. The path includes: Alvarez not getting another year, Dee Lockett upsetting Caliendo, Ryder upsetting Ferrari, or Figs upsetting Ayala. I don't feel confident about any of those things happening (except maybe Alvarez not getting another year).

I'd like to hear Gilman as a color commentator for this one

The dual being in GIA I'll bet a bag of Bob's cash 💰  we don't hear the gillyman on the color.

Doucet isn't getting majored.  He wrestled the entire 2024 season and didn't get majored by Bastida, Elam, Schultz (2X), or Keuter.  If you go back to 2023 he lost to Elam, Cassiopi, and Mason Parris without them coming close to bonus. But Wyatt Hendrickson did major him 12-3 that year.  That's the only time in his career going all the way back to 2021 that he's been majored.  Wyatt is actually the only opponent to score 8 points in a match against him (let alone beat him by 8).  He's a classic staller who will not be majored.

Ayala was 2nd at 133, Figs went 1-2 at 125. It would be an upset.

We have history between the two.  Figs won 7-2 at NCAA's '24.  He'll have an entire season at 133 under his belt to adjust.  If he fills in to the weight nicely than they go into the match as a toss up

So you would rather use a reference point from TWO NCAA tournaments ago, instead of the most recent one?

According to Wrestlestat, Ayala is ranked #3 and Figs is #8. FloWrestling has Ayala #4 and Figs #8. @Husker_Du hasn't updated Crystal Ball since Figs transferred, but he had Ayala 3rd and I don't see him having Figs higher than him. I'm not saying he can't do it. But it would abolsutely be an upset.

Yes, I prefer to use actual results and I said "if" he fills in to the weight nicely
