Iowa fans have long clamored for a pushout rule in folkstyle.  Well in Mocco vs Mirasola the wrestler who scored all the takedowns lost and the wrestler who won scored all his points on pushouts.

Putting aside that the Iowa recruit lost, did Iowa fans enjoy seeing a match decided by who was better at pushouts?

Push outs suck.   I think Mendez won by a lot of push outs in one of his matches.

Tariffs may change, but JC stays the same. Glad to have him as an anchor during these uncertain times.

Iowa fans should be stoked. Mocco, a junior in high school, got 3 takedowns to 0 against Penn State's starting heavyweight. If Kueter is healthy for the next three years, and then Mocco taking over, they are set for the foreseeable future at heavyweight. Whether Hawkeye fans want a push out in folk or not, there isn't one, so you favor the guy getting all the takedowns. Plus, I don't believe they really want that rule change. I mean do you really think Hawk fans want to start yelling "passivity!" 500 times per match?

7 step outs is wild. Not sure I have ever seen that. And 2 in the last 12 seconds when he had the lead. Mr. Mocco needs a little work on freestyle tactics.

Hope he knows diff between par terre and referees position before he graduates.  One can hope.

What does Michael Mocco weigh?  Honestly he looks more to me like a 197lber/97kg'er than a HWT.  He doesn't have papa Mocco's build at all.  Reminds me more of Snyder.  Kid has great technique but unless he has a growth sport, he looks like he's always going to be a bit undersized against the big boys.

Mocco -> 105.2 KG (~231.9lbs)

Mirasola -> 99.2 KG (~218.7lbs)

Feldman was at the US Open right? Maybe he got recruited and thus Mocco didn’t just wrestle their starting heavyweight

Except there basically is a push-out rule. Refs call it stalling at least every other pushout, if not every pushout. Those stalling points add up.

Since when do they call it that often?  I would be pleased.  More like 1 out of 10 it seems.

More stalling should be called for sure, but not (IMO) for driving a guy out of bounds. If you're not shooting for takedowns, you don't deserve to benefit from stall points.

Push outs were supposed to solve stalling and edge wrestling.   Did they not?

LOL I'm an idiot

Why did Mirasola look so much bigger to me?

Well Push outs are apart of the Freestyle and Greco rules. So it is what it is. Honestly though, I am a fan of the rule and I would like to see it incorporated into Folkstyle.
But irregardless I thought it was a great match and I think that Mocco gave Mirasola everything he could handle.

Real take downs > push outs.    Every time.

Yes, and I don’t think anyone would disagree, but it’s part of the rules. And in this particular case, the amount of push outs won.

I don’t disagree/argue the push out guy won the match.  I think the rules are just stupid.  So fair.  But.   Please don’t pollute folkstyle with this nonsense.

Could you imagine a push out rule at NCAAs with those tiny little  mats given how small the venues are.

I propose we try this at a single tournament next year and Soldier Salute seems appropriate.  Slight modification in rules:  pushout 2pt, takedown 1pt, leglace -1pt.

It should be exiting!

Freestyle isn’t as exciting unfortunately. 😞    Used to be years ago…. Pre ball grab and the other rules. Not so much any more.

Well I am of a different opinion, I think that adding the push out rule would add another layer to Folkstyle. I like the current Freestyle rules, the pace is far quicker and I believe the fans like it. But I recognize that Folkstyle is different and the size of a particular mat may be an issue, so unless the NCAA’s adopt this rule, this is purely argumentative.
