Oklahoma State had a great showing with a commit winning SRs and another winning U20.  Cornell, Minnesota, Lehigh, ASU and Oregon St all snagged U20 golds.  Illinois joined the party with an U17 winning gold.

Penn State won 2 SR, 4 U20 and 1 U17.

Iowa was blanked across the board.

Stanich's shot defense was/is next level, we saw that in both his semis and finals matches...what Bassett needs to work on as he gets ready for college (take this observation with a grain of salt. I was nowhere near the level of wrestler he is) is his mid match tactics and adjustments.  He seemed to try to stick to the same gameplan in the finals and I think it cost him.

Agree 100%. But I just wanted to point out to Mr. Pastry that Bassett looked good against everyone who has little to no college resume. The only person he wrestled who has a respectable college resume, kind of put it on him. Yes, I know Bassett is still only a junior in HS, but he's got work to do.

It's amazing how Iowa fans like the pastry are twisting themselves into knots that Bassett "looked good" losing.  He's going to look "great" in college then when he can't physically bully other wrestlers.

Now the pastry is pointing out that Mirasola only had pushouts on Mocco as a slam on Mirasola instead of the fact that a non-physical heavyweight was able to physically manhandle their other prized recruit.

Bassett is the next Spencer Lee.  He wins at least 2 individual titles and 1 Hodge.  Mocco will win a NCAA title or two himself.

If we want to look at those who made the finals and took second we have:

SRs  Missouri, Ohio State

U20  2 Missouri, 2 Penn State, 2 Oklahoma St 1 Michigan 1 ASU 1 Nebraska 0 Iowa

Sinclair was a finalist in both SRs and U20 at different weights.

I completely agree when it comes to single legs. Zepeda doubled him from space twice and took him down without much resistance both times. He rubber knees like Crookham though from a single.

I think thats my only hesitation with Bassett at the next level...especially going to iowa which historically (please dont kill me) has focused on just the hand fighting/forward pressure/brawler style...He isnt going to brutalize everyone like he has done with kids his own age...but I have faith he is going to keep developing

Minnesota had a 1st, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and another (Millard) who MFF'd after starting 3-0.  These were all true or redshirt freshmen, and McEnelly was the only one who was a starter for the Gophers.

From a technique standpoint, Spencer Lee was light years ahead of where Bassett is at the same age. Don't kid yourself.

I'm pretty sure Bo Bassett knows how to tilt, too.

Penn State - 7 Gold 2 Silver 1 Bronze

OK State - 2 Gold 2 Silver 2 Bronze

Cornell - 1 Gold 3 Bronze

Arizona St -1 Gold 1 Silver

Minnesota - 1 Gold 1 Bronze

Missouri - 3 silver 1 Bronze

Lehigh - 1 gold

Illinois - 1 gold

Oregon St - 1 gold

Ohio State/Nebraska -1 Silver 1 Bronze

Stanford did get 2 bronze but both were at the SR level so they should be noted.

There's your top 10/11 current college teams in Freestyle.  Some teams have former World Team members that did not compete for one reason or another but none would move into the top ten.

I posted in another thread, but you had 3 Mccort kids that committed this year so presumably are training some at their new school. Herring and Forrest both had the best tournaments of their lives whereas Bo may have not met expectations. Now they are still in high school and may only be training at these places at most a week at a time I just thought it was worth noting that he seems to have not made the progression in that step his teammates have so far not to say he will not. I also think he can go on and make a good run at trials I certainly don't think the Stanich loss will define him, and he can make adjustments to win that match for sure he just has not made any technical changes that I've noticed with my untrained eye.

It’s also a slam on how boring freestyle is.
