Anyone know what happened in the 130KG Greco finals.  I heard Schultz pinned Coon and then Coon FF the second match.  Injury from the first match?

I saw a clip on Twitter where Schultz pinned Coon, Coon looked like he was completely unconscious. Might've had his bell rung or choked out.

So, on the last sequence at 74kg, Mesenbrink scored his 16th point, and Carr wrestled through for a reversal.

I’ve seen some international refs/judges/chairs go 2 and 1 there. 9 point lead if they do that.

What is the correct call?

You can still win by fall after being down by 10 (happened in world championships for women's a few years ago) but you can not currently score points to keep the match alive. The sequence is still allowed to continue though.

So Zane Richards made it to the finals, so does anyone know if he has a background in Greco? Irregardless if this was his first year training full time training Greco I think that this is pretty impressive. Maybe if he stays at it he can break through.

He had a few Fargo stop signs in greco and freestyle, but no formal competition after high school until last weekend. Illinois RTC has always had strength in the greco side of the house and he often trained with the greco guys. Here is a interview with USA Wrestling where he goes more in depth on the transition:

I just hope he's not giving up his pickleball career ... the kid shows promise.  🙂

He's only 30 years old. He has at least 25 years until he hits his pickleball prime!

Dake and I are the same age. I've been saying it for the last handful of years that I can't believe guys like him, Taylor, and Burroughs could still maintain the grind that it takes to be near the top of the world after your body has physically peaked. How many 34 year old wrestlers are winning world titles from any country? Dake also just isn't an 86kg wrestler.. at least right now.

It's crazy how much of a toll wrestling takes on your body. Comparatively, top professional boxers have a much longer career span and are in their prime for a lot longer. Usyk and Terence Crawford are pushing 40; Canelo, Inoue, Teraji, Santiago and others are all around Dake's age and currently holding belts. They all cut weight, train, and peak for maybe 2-3 competitions per year, which is pretty similar to the way older Senior wrestlers load manage for 2-3 big tournaments. The Klitschkos, Lennox Lewis, Holyfield, Deontay Wilder were all  in their prime and going toe-to-toe against top competition well into their 30s.

I assume the big fight purses are a huge motivator and allows these top guys to actually focus 100% on their sport but it's wild that they're not unseated by younger talent like you see in wrestling and other sports.

The age curve in all weight cutting/combat sports seems to be kinder to the heavier athletes. GGG was an absolutely anomaly for that very reason. I am interested to see if we start to see a decline in Canelos performances bud seemed like maybe age was catching him against Madrimov but that could have just been how good Madrimov is. Lomachenko is a guy that I think wasted a lot of his prime because he did not turn pro until he was almost 30 and he is much lighter.

I believe prior to volk beating lopez fighters 35 and older at 170 and under were something like 2-31 in title fights.
