What recruiting class in Iowa history would match Bassett, Mocco and presumably both Raney's if any?

Retroactively speaking, Metcalf/Slaton/Borschel was impressive. Off the top of my head, they combined for 3 titles and 2 runner-up finishes. Maybe not the same firepower coming out of high school though.

The Raney brothers haven't committed to Iowa, stop it.  Bassett and Mocco is a nice recruiting class, but not the greatest or even close.  We'll see what happens.

I know you're a Hawk expert. Or much more than myself. Is Metcalf/Slaton/Borschel one of the best of TnT era?

Not sure I'd call myself an expert, but how are we judging?  By the rankings at the time of their recruitment, or by the results after they were done?

Stop acting like you don't think it's a lock.  Raney to Iowa.  There really isn't another realistic outcome.

I think OP was looking at high school results. But I was looking more at the college results after the fact.

I think you nailed it then, because I don't think they have another class with 5 Finals appearances.

The other argument is 2017 with Spencer, Warner, and Murin.  Especially if you count Desanto in that group.

Add Dan Leclere to that recruiting class. I know you're focusing on what they did in college, and it was very impressive. Looking at them as recruits out of HS, that group was very hyped. DL had a solid career at Iowa but no AA finished iirc.

Was Billy Murphy (Hughson HS, 2X CA State Champ) also part of that class for Tom (although I'm not sure if he ever wrestled an official match for Iowa)?

As far as NCAA success, this would have to be the top class.

TnT had three additional classes with four finals appearances:  St. John (2,1) and Ramos (2,1), Lee (1,1,1) and Warner (2), and Gilman (2) and Clark (2,2,1).

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

Wasn’t that class with Metcalf the infamous “double recruiting class” though? Half of them went to VT originally and then joined in with the Iowa class. So that group needs an asterisk 😀. Does anyone remember how many were recruited by Tom to VT? I know Metcalf was.

Billy Murphy...that guy was talented...and kinda a sad wrestling story, although he did win an NJCAA championship. Coincidentally in high school, Billy was coached in part by Kyle Porter, also a 2X State Champ at Hughson...riveting stuff! (The Porter family are wrestling royalty in Modesto area, akin to the Zinkins in Fresno). He was a year behind that VT recruiting class, although he signed letter of intent when Tom was still at VT, he ended up switching to Iowa.

Here's an old (and pretty good) article here from Intermat if you're interested:

I guess Brands was better at recruiting kids to VT than to Iowa then 😆🤷🏼‍♂️

I know your joker style anti Iowa.  But asking them to sit a real year to wrestle for them …. That’s pretty good recruiting.   Not sure if you think about what you type or not.  But hey.

But it wasn't a TnT recruit class so a little off topic dont we think?  😉

Makes him a good recruiter though.  I don’t think the anti troll hate Iowa guy was making his comments in good faith either

There is a long standing interweb intermat troll narrative that Iowa brands whatever are shyte recruiters.

tangent - there's a pretty good book called Four Days to Glory that follows Borschel and Dan Leclere through their senior HS seasons. Think it gets into the recruitment class stuff at the end, but been a while since I picked it up.
