Now that NCAAs are over, who are the best to never win a title?

Some guys off the top of my head:

2. Stevan Micic

Stevan Micic's Record: https://wrestlingrecords.com/wrestler/stevan-micic/

3. Thomas Gilman

Jon Trenge...

Did Koschek ever win one? I thought he was like 4,2,4,3 or something.

Oh, Rivera. He's up there. Craig Brester.
Did Backes ever win one?

Ness, Palmer, Pletcher, Kollin Moore.

Both Hidlay brothers, Cam Amine or Myles(whoever took the Bronze)

And then a couple names I can't remember. There was a guy Q. Write beat a couple times and then Ruth beat him. Another kid from Lehigh.
The Stanford Amuchastegui...Logan Storley, Evans Iowa.

It is a long list of guys that had 4 or 5 AA finishes without winning.

Not that this should be a definitive list (does not include the guys from the no freshmen eligible era, for example), but it is a starting point to debate.

I only included guys who average better than fourth place.

Both Hidlay brothers,

Always thought Trent got such a rough break going head to head against one of the GOAT's in Aaron Brooks. They matched up at NCAA's 4 straight years from 21-24 twice in the semi's and twice in the finals with Brooks winning all 4. Trent Hidlay is a multi time champ in a lot of other era's.

yes he won it in 2001

Ah...that's right.

Ok, well....he's somehow underrated.

Hawewinkel is another guy who I forgot.

Also like Gerry Abas. Man is a 3X Champ if he's not gassing he beats 3 absolute studs. Even the 15-6 loss to Fried seemed to turn on that reversal that wasn't.

The way they wrestled back then was just so much simpler. Looked more like high level HS Wrestling now. Shots, the defense was mainly trying to stuff the head of if you got put to a hip, lock around the chest and try and get your leg back. You step out of bounds, the wrestling is over.

I don't like a lot of rule changes, but I LOVED the rule changes regarding Wrestling out of bounds.

@gimpeltfI'd add 2. Colin Kilrain (3,3,3 80-82)) Joe Peritore (2,2,3 65-67 65/66 to Uetake)

There are so many all-time greats and guys from that era, I'm just totally ignorant about them. There's the one guy from Iowa...Rico Chiparelli or something. IIRC, he was a 3X Champ and it was like 12-0, 15-0, 10-0 or something like that.

I can't evaluate it. Uetake, kinda the same thing. Guy was the best in the world while he was the best in the Country, but...it's just hard without seeing it in MY opinion.

and in his Teams prime, Admiral Kilrain could sneak up on anyone on the never champ list and slit their throats with no one knowing...

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If we are measuring this by cumulative quality wins - although he never made a finals - I would throw in Sebastian Rivera.

he was so good- Sr year he beat D'Emilio by 14, tech'd Composto who took 8th, beat Filius by 10, tech'd Bergeland (who took 7th) 16 to 0, beat Real Woods, and had over 80% bonus.

I wonder if Jack Mueller qualifies...90% win percentage at 125, lost to Spencer Lee in finals, career highlights including wins over Dance, Rivera, Desanto at 133, Erneste at 133, McGee, Bresser, McKee. 77% win percentage up a weight.

Sam Hazewinkle

2 2 2 3

And an Olympian in FS and world team member in GR.  How many guys have made both teams?  And of that number how many weren't heavyweights?

Ooof, that's pretty terrible luck drawing those four.
