If you don't know the answer to that question, then I revise my previous statement to say you're underthinking it lol

Expand

I think you're underthinking it. Do all of the army, airforce, navy wrestlers bring flags out when they wrestle?

It made for a good storyline and hyped the match up, that's why it was done.

That would be stupid.  Hodge is about pins what did Carter do?

Expand

No...it's not. That has LONG since changed.

I'd give it to Hendrickson but one of the criteria is literally PAST CREDENTIALS.

5 TIMES he's been a National Champ and had a higher bonus rate while also beating a undefeated National Champ.

So...sure, give it to Hendrickson, but PLEASE stop acting like in 2025 it's a pinning award. It's the Wrestling Heisman award.

I will go on record stating that I am good with either Henderson or Starocci---as I think most all wrestling people would be. Either selection has merit and that is not to disrespect the accomplishments of the one who would not awarded the honor.

Based on what criteria?

Originally created to celebrate the pin in college wrestling, the Dan Hodge Trophy is based on seven criteria including record, a number of pins, dominance, past credentials, quality of competition, sportsmanship/citizenship, and heart.

The trophy is based primarily on the results of a single season, but past accomplishments are considered as well, particularly in years where the competition is tighter.

Here ya go. From the Dan Hodge Foundation Itself.

Now...AGAIN, not saying don't give it to Wyatt. He checks those criteria and did something NOBODY thought he could do...but Carte did something never been done and...he has accomplished quite a bit himself.

it's not a lifetime achievement award. This is from WIN Magazine who gives the award:

"Wrestling’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy is awarded annually by the Dan Hodge Trophy Voting Committee to the most dominant wrestler."

And it literally says,

Why don't you all go to the Hodge Page and READ the actual criteria....

And...yes, OBVIOUSLY I copy and pasted.

Why not take it directly from the source.

The Hodge trophy is given out by WIN magazine. Why not copy the criteria listed by the organization that gives out the award? We know why you didn't do that.

Idk, Quinn made him look like a beta twink when he made him take his headgear off to show him how "pretty" he was. And he obliged. We know what that was about. Can't get hodge votes after that.

carter did a great job as always…his world view should be THE world view of youth sports…excellence in self over results…but wyatt had a huge finish that encapsulated that very thing…he would get my vote

That page is not updated. Past credentials is no longer one of the criteria.

That said, it doesn't really matter what the official criteria are because it is based on a vote. So the criteria are whatever the voters decide they are.

Yep, and it's pretty likely this was the case

So you think real $$ changed hands to have another guy do an absolutely clean finish to get a cheap take down for the recipient lose a match on National Tv etc? I have watched the match now three times and the final takedown 6 times…i don’t see it.

Because it wasn't the first thing that came up when I posted it?

LOL...why don't YOU tell ME why I didn't post that? What hidden agenda other than saying I'D give it to Hendrickson, but that Pins are not THE criteria?

By all means, please enlighten me as to this "hidden agenda?"

I don't know so much about world views...I don't actually beleieve that Carter has that Mesenbrink 'process over results,' approach, but Hendrickson being the Air Force guy is pretty equal.

I said Hendrickson would get my vote...but you point out it's not about Pins and...now you have "hidden agendas!"

(I am actually a deep state agent working to convince people with no actual say in the award that I'd give it to Hendrickson only to fool them into thinking Starocci SHOULD win it...if I'm being honest...but I don't want to blow my cover!)

This feels like trolling...

No shot anyone believes Gable was paid to lose.

Yeah, I don't believe they won't take 5X into consideration(this is my "hidden agenda😂). And he's never won it.

I'd probably cop out and split it...but if it HAS to be one guy...the guy who pulled off...maybe a top 5 upset all-time(As in EVER sport) and the biggest in College Wrestling? At the very least, the OW should be as clear as day. Normally, beating a guy like Keckeisen would be the biggest Win, but that may have been 3rd here...

And people are talking about how this is the biggest since Karelin, but...I think this is bigger. Rulon lost because he adjusted his grip. Wyatt just went out and BEAT Gable. Finished clean and then rode him out. Of course I've argued Slay-Saitiev was a bigger upset, but that's just me.
