Snyder yes.

Zain: not currently competing.

Nick Lee- no.  (Eierman has won a senior Pan Am; Nick Lee not so much...)

Nick Lee won a Pan Am.  Get your PSU hate sharper.  You're better than this and getting sloppy with the hate

Nick Lee won final X and finished seventh at Worlds. He has an infinitely better resume than Eierman.

Not sure about "infinite" but yes, better for sure.  Just was a major disappointment in the Pan Am qualifier.

Will he be taking a year off this year?

Iowa HAS the talent. What they don't have is coaches willing or able to move past Dan Gable and what worked for him.

Dan was not one dimensional. Tom & Terry basically are. "Dan did it" is as dumb as photographers with "Ansel did it". Mired in the past - not learning from the past are very different.

Gable was a grinder on the mat but did not force that on kids who can't do it. That was "The Iowa Style" but he had some wrestlers who did not quite fit the mold. He was smart enough to push them in their style with his determination.

Tom & Terry don't do this.

Iows has the talent. They don't have a coaching staff that can develop that talent past high mid levels. Very few who come in show a lot of improvement. It is the coaching.

Not hate lol.

But you are right, I was spitting some alternative facts here! Mea culpa! Terrible post by me. And unlike some, I will not be deleting.

I'm taking a year off, too.  For about 23 years now.

I hate that I have to defend NLWC but your take is just totally false. Nick Lee vs Eierman freestyle success is not even controversial.. Lee is just better and has clearly had more success. Of course NLWC has a much better room than HWC right now. Everyone knows that. They have one of the best rooms in the world. They also have Franklin Gomez, Bo Nickal and Cassar regularly training there. And I forgot to mention this guy named Kyle Dake originally.

You don't have to lie.  You hate Penn State.  Especially Cael.  I don't mind it at all.  I quite enjoy it and it's a tasteful hate.  I only call you out when I think you need to sharpen your knife.

I admitted to getting a lot of this wrong, but you also can't count the guys who are no longer active or who are guests.

I do have some strong dislike.  But it is for the overzealous, hypocritical fans.

Cael is the best coach in the USA. I don't think he is a bad person.  The more Olympic gold medalists he coaches, the better.

Not sure about Zain taking a year off. I believe he said he retired. Nick Lee has not said he retired. I talked with someone who talked with him and said he wrestles more now that he is a coach than when he was a competitor. Not sure that is optimal, but it probably means the book is not closed.

Until Eierman makes a world or olympic team we are dividing by zero, so infinite is in the conversation.

Ha! (good math joke)

Zain was supposed to retire, but I think that is now "taking a year off."

I was ready to see Nick lee retire, and wouldn't be surprised if he does, but have not seen anything other than him saying he was still going to compete after being hired to coach.  I would almost say that him wrestling more as a coach than as a competitor is a bad sign for him to return to competition.  Now his wrestling is focused on helping others, instead of himself.

Zain talked about his competitive career after the Lee Ono match. He plans to pursue more world teams at 70 kg

Fair enough. Nickal and Cassar are rostered athletes at NLWC that train there frequently. If you are gonna include Otoguro for HWC why would NLWC not include those guys?

Lol what? Our team would be better off if a multiple time medalist, world champ and olympian were retired?

Who on the HWC roster adds any value to USA Wrestling outside of Spencer Lee?? I don't think Sorensen, Marinelli, Kaleb Young, or Eierman have wrestled a senior level match in years. Regardless, none of them would even be competitive with the top 5 of the ladder right now. The rest..DeSanto and Warner? They're well outside the top 5 and are nothing more than glorified warm up partners for Spencer & Buchanan.

Woods, Eireman, Caliendo, Lugo, and Desanto all placed higher at Iowa than their previous school. Franck is the lone high profile transfer to not place higher and he still AAd.

These three all finished lower their senior years than junior years. I am not sure on Lugo. Too lazy to look. Caliendo's story is still being written.

Woods 4th place finish is still higher than any of his finishes at Stanford.

Eireman blew out his knee against Chad Red

Desanto finished 3rd. Tied for his highest finish

  • So Woods got worse from junior to senior season though no? By the metric we're using.
  • Starocci won a title on a blown knee. Same with Spencer. So the 'blew his knee out' excuse is played out in my opinion. Eierman finished 2nd at B1Gs and was the 2 seed at NCAAs. We can't pick and choose when results count. If you take the mat, you're good to go.
  • I stand corrected on Desanto. I give you that one.

Lugo got robbed by the NCAA. He was the #1 seed when the 2020 tournament was cancelled and they didn't give him and other seniors the year back.
