It doesn't matter that Penn State missed out on Bassett and Forrest. The Brands will burn out Bassett. David Tayor will make a champ out of Forrest. But Cael will get the most out of Blaze.

It's hilarious that you basically make it all about the coaches.  Like Basset won't have a say in whether he is used in a way that wears him out.  Like Forrest's or Blaze's improvement won't be more about internal drive than anything else.  The way you describe it, these kids are just lumps of clay to be molded entirely by the 3 head coaches.  The truth is many kids fail and succeed everywhere.  Some wear out at Iowa and others don't.  Many flourish at PSU and a few don't.  Most of it is up to the young men themselves.

Agreed.  This ties in with the prior posts in this thread about Cael having an excellent ability to identify the "right" recruits.

Yep.  Get the right kids and then coach them up.  Both are elements of coaching and Cael is great at both.  But you can't ignore the athletes and pretend that it's all about coaching them up.

I doubt Bassett's outcomes (or Forest's or Blaze's) change 5% based on where they go to school.  These kids have already reached a high NCAA level while training primarily in HS rooms.  I am quite sure they could succeed in most college rooms.

Overheating of a machine gun will cause the barrel to expand and create inaccurate shots...

Keep it going long enough it will exceed barrel pressure rating. Might even catch fire before that.

I would think Bassett runs into the most problems as he won't have the same physical advantages he does against HS Kids at the next level. Especially at the weights he is projected to wrestle.

Oh yeah. If you are close when a barrel rips then you are at great risk. You seem well aware of this which is good on you.

Mesenbrink doesn't look to have much of a physical advantage and he finds a way to melt everyone with his pace.

His arms look pretty long to me, which is an advantage for his style of wrestling and if you can melt people with pace it means you for sure have big physical advantages with some combination of lung capacity, aerobic efficiency, lactate threshold, etc

Saying Mesenbrink doesn't have physical advantages is insane to me.  He honestly wrestles a lot like the Brands brothers/my personal favorite Hawkeye Brent Metcalf.  Unreal pace.

Other than the pace in no way shape or form does he wrestle like the Brands brothers.  I like re-watching his matches and slow it down.  He's pulling off some high level stuff that makes my jaw drop.  Not necessarily the technique but kind of reminds me of Kyle Dake when you'd stop and think theres no way someone could've pulled that off.

Side note; best or most fun Iowa wrestler to watch tape on is Rico Chiapparelli.

I see and appreciate what you're saying here, but these are two totally different cats. Messenbrink is utterly overwhelming at all times. Bo is more of a bully that imposes his will. They are similar and different at the same time.

Speaking of which, Mitch Messenbrink has to be like top 5 all time least fun guys to wrestle. Gotta suck to be out there for 7 minutes with that guy.

But has he ever gone 7 minutes or maybe you are thinking of a different cat?  🤔

I think it would be even more miserable being out there for less than 7. 😅

I think, while a great indicator of potential, too much stock is being put into Blaze's freestyle run last spring. You can score in free without finishing takedowns, a significant portion of scrambling is eliminated which allows for easier finishing of takedowns, you have criteria, etc. etc.

I think between the three, Jax and Bo have styles that can be better rewarded in folkstyle than freestyle. Marcus is more traditional in great positioning, stinginess, and clean finishing. I think it could very well be similar to a Dake vs DT kind of thing where Jax and Bo are more likely to put up bonus against everyone, but Blaze may be more effective at winning against the very elite.

If I had to guess (for the sake of equal comparison let's say all wrestle in year one) I'd guess highest average podium finish will be..

1. Jax

2. Blaze

3. Bassett

Of the three, I think Jax probably is the least "polished" and seemingly least physically mature of the three. For those two reasons, I think between now and the end of his freshman year of college, he could make bigger jumps than Blaze or Bassett. But of course, we're splitting hairs among three amazing young wrestlers.
