Gov types who have already had a crack at the apple have failed the last 48484747477484858558 times.   Time for new ideas.

You've now said that twice, betraying your lack of knowledge, which of course won't stop you.   How have they had a crack at the apple and failed?

He can't increase space x funding etc.   He can only find them not inefficient and leave them alone.   Congress has the purse strings.   You guys are all Chicken Littles running around saying the sky is falling or gonna fall if Musk is able to identify wasteful and inefficient spending but saves his own funding.   I'd say that not a bad bargain.   The money will be spent if he does nothing.   The money might be saved if he does something.   Objectively, which is better?

Your whole post just takes a flawed premise and demands it be accepted as true.

Exactly the point Vak.   How have they failed?   Spending is not reduced.

... they haven't had that role.  Seriously you guys don't have to talk if you don't know what you're talking about.

Exactly Vak.   That role does not exist in government.   So why do you keep saying it does when you just said it doesn't?  If Musk and Vivek can be successful, then why not give them a shot.   If not, then they got their shot no harm done.    Again, any changes will have to get through congress.

Sigh.  It does exist in government.  The role that is being designed for....sigh....D.O.G.E. already exists, and is not typically listened to or followed.

The two people i mentioned that have been shot down as "failed" have had no role in governmental budget oversight.  They work in a budget thinktank that focuses entirely on looking at government waste.   Meanwhile Elon and Vivek are two corporate oligarchs with massive conflicts who also have other businesses and other roles that make this, a thing they have no experience in, little more than a hobby.

This dude.??

Mitchell Elias Daniels Jr.
Former Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget
….

career politicians are the problem.

Thank you for illustrating, perfectly, the issue of having a massively conflicted person involved.

Great.  Now read about what he did while in that role (and what that role entails).  He literally fits exactly with the worldview Trump and co are espousing, but without any of the massive conflicts. Oh, and he's not famous.  And actually has experience in the field in question.

Perhaps, they will include him if he is that good.   I just don't see where cutting wasteful spending is a bad thing, no matter who does it.  You are more interested in the who, I am more interested in the get 'er done.

The public.   A lot of the public are tired of career gov politicians not doing anything.  The left just hates Elon.    They don’t like his success.  They don’t like he’s a billionaire.  And they don’t like that he let’s republicans speak on social media.   Your billionaires / wealthy politicians are cool…..   no bubbles no troubles with them.  Don’t hear about the head of Netflix… or LinkedIn or Msft or the several Facebook billionaires or jb pritzker or penny pritzker or Rick Caruso or mark dayton or Jared polis or Nancy pelosi …..

You may have to put a seat belt on for the next 4 years if this is the worst thing Trump will do (from the lens of the left).     Maybe they hate him because he used to be on the left…. Like all of those that moved right because the left politics are getting more and more “whatever”…. Anyone who has left team left seems to be shunned pretty aggressively.

does George Soros pay his fair share of federal taxes?  Did he pay income tax in 2016 or 17 or 18?  Not a lot of press on that dude.  Weird don’t ya think ?

What could be wrong with being transparent?  Yes we know the Vak answer.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-said-launch-leaderboard-170727204.html

This:

  • Musk said on X that he'll launch a "leaderboard" to track spending and crowdsource ideas for cuts.

SNL will have to much material lol.

so many folks are going to hate him for this…. Calling out the crazy spending the gov does on total nonsense.   This may be fun.

This argument is interesting. You have good articulated answers to questions, and then responses that kinda remind me of that dude with the long burp from revenge of the nerds.

Booger.  He’s awesome lol

You can take the quote marks off of conflicted. It is a long, high dollar list:

Tesla is the largest beneficiary of zero-emission credits from the government that they turn around and sell to other manufacturers for billions (you can see this in Tesla earnings). Note: Weren't you against EVs?

Tesla's Gigafactory in Nevada received $330mm in tax credits. What are the odds he will determine a tax credit for one his projects is not efficient?

SpaceX has a $2.89 billion contract to develop a lunar lander. Is there any chance that putting people on the moon will be deemed redundant by Musk? Do we need people on the moon? What if it costs $3 billion?

SpaceX, Blue Origin, and United Launch Alliance all compete for government contracts. What are the chances a Blue Origin contract proposal will be deemed less competitive? What happens if Musk is allowed to see a Blue Origin or United Launch Alliance contract? Is that anti-competitive behavior?

In total SpaceX has gotten in excess of $19 billion in contracts. Who will decide if those are efficient? Do we expect Musk to tell us when he padded the contract too much?

Musk has often broken securities laws which sometimes lands him in trouble with the SEC. Will he decide the SEC is inefficient and move to cut funding? What about other agencies that regulate his companies?

gimme a break.

do you have any idea how much gov't waste there is?

we literally get defrauded over half a trillion. that's just in fraud cases.

that doesn't count things like $2m for studying yoga on goats or $1m for the effects of tequila on blowfish (these are real line items)

it doesn't count the $50 we spend on each bolt via defense contracts (again, a real thing)

and you're suggesting foul play b/c Elon has govt contracts?

they exist. they have existed. and if they aren't legitimate they can cease to exist in 4 years.

lame excuse.

the left just aren't serious about anything.

you got a million people including Vak, here, and liz cheney on twitter say 'how can it be efficient if there are two people for one role'

i mean, you can't be serious. you guys are aware that DEPARTMENTS have more than one person, right? and that Elon and Vivek don't need the money.

just say you're tribal, and move on. b/c you make yourself look silly.

the American people pay in obscene amounts of money and politicians spend it with the indiscretion of a child.

again, no one that pushes back on this has a serious argument. it's insanity. leftist tears and nothing else.

You act like you just discovered something. Except, you didn't.

It's been known by literally everyone for decades

The federal government is ridiculous wasteful. Corporations are also all ridiculously wasteful.

It comes with scale. Small companies can be much less wasteful than larger ones. As they grow, waste reduction becomes less and less achievable. More things being exchanged at a greater pace, with a focus on pace - waste becomes a secondary focus (at best.) As the continue to grow to the largest scale, it becomes virtually impossible to globally monitor so many moving parts in the interest of efficiency.

At that point, efficiency efforts - if they are to work at all - simply must be relegated to the departments, compartments, divisions, sub-divisons, etc. And, even then, they have to be monitored by managers. Yep - it's inefficient and wasteful.

When a coupla' "favorite" non-government guys who don't know government from shinola...
suddenly get a government "efficiency" job at the top of the federal level. It ain't nothing but rigged BS.

They'll both be guaranteed to get more wealthy (Tesla stock has already jumped after the announcement.)

American citizens? Sorry - nothing for you here. At least nothing good.

This was all about power making more wealth for the already wealthy. And - yes that money comes from taxpayers.
