Where does he go from here if he doesn't compete the year. NFL is out, WWE is out, might as well go back to what he is the best at and see if he can make a go.   In no way does coming back hurt his long term career plans, it only has triggered some PSU fans it appears.

MMA looks to be next. Gable loves to stay in the spotlight. Once he fails at MMA maybe the Arena football league or XFL.

Gable has won 2 titles to date...as well as an olympic gold. I'd he can go just about anywhere, within the wrestling world, he wants to go from there.

Gable Steveson wrestling in college is wasting everyone's time. Yes, he will win NCAAs - good for him. But, if he wants to focus on being the best wrestler he can be, he should be solely competing in FS.

On another front, 7th year "seniors" do not belong in college sports. Unfortunately, I fear we're about to see a new batch of "abuse" of the Olympic redshirts coming to college wrestling shortly.

It's fine if you think it's not narratively relevant.  It's fine if you think his self importance makes him less interesting.  It's great to have opinions even when they are wrong. 

He is clearly relevant.  We have pages of comments across multiple threads.  We have multiple people taking the time to post how much they don't care.  It is clear he isn't irrelevant to the 2024-2025 college wrestling season.  I also think it's hilarious that you think his self importance makes him less interesting.  Everything in sports tells us that the more self interested you are, the more people care what happens to you.  If Gable could get his self interest up to Ferrari levels, this thread might be twice as long.  

But if you mean that you won't root for him or you will try to ignore him, then that makes sense.  But you repeatedly and passionately posting to tell us how you don't care doesn't send the message you think it does.

As a conversational piece, it is rather interesting seeing Gable Steveson transform from the golden child to the villain from a voyeuristic perspective and it is happening based almost entirely on athletic endeavors.

This sports never ceases to amaze me with its' ability to eat its' own.

Be Jordan Burroughs and stick around as long as you can, get run out of town (see that drunk NLWC asshat screaming at him).

Be Gable Steveson and pursue other ventures, get run out of town when you return.

Look, Gable has earned the right to do whatever he wants, but what do we gain from his return to college? He'll probably walk through the season without breaking a sweat, so it's a rather boring storyline that won't do much for the sport. His wrestling probably won't improve much, nor will it need to, so I'm doubtful that another season in the NCAA does anything for him as an athlete. It makes the "doing it for my legacy" stuff sound like double-speak for "I couldn't hack the challenges of being a pro athlete, so I'm coming back to my NCAA safe space where I'm the bully." 

Why not at least compete in freestyle against grown ass men from around the planet who will actually challenge him? He'd probably be able to pull the same dough as an RTC athlete that he'll be getting under NIL. And RTC is as good of a bridge to coaching as is making one last run in college.

I know, I know, I should be pumped about Steveson's return, but the vibe seems all wrong.

I'm just happy he failed at his other two ventures so he could disprove the celebrity worshippers who are convinced that because you are good/successful in a field, that means you can cross over to everything. Gable could have been a world champion in chess and software development pioneer!

All this said, I still find it very odd that Steveson didn't chase down that Bob Nichols bag if he's re-exiting for an MMA run after NCAAs anyways. Dude wants to rightfully get paid and he has absolutely earned it, Nichols pays to play, that Hawkeye singlet is a genuine marketing vehicle, and taking the mercenary heel turn is nothing less than expected at this point in college athletics. Plus you're telling me that Brands would rather run out Kueter than the guy who is about to absolutely embarass Kueter? I am failing to grasp the "loyalty to UM" angle.

Well, as much as I'm disappointed with steveson's loyalty to wrestling, its not giving him too much credit to say he went back to minny when he could have made more elsewhere. I'm sure he has a lot of gratitude and relationships he wouldnt forsake at minnesota.

Yeah...but he's 24 and College Wrestling is the highest level of Wrestling you can achieve in this sport. Cael was 23 when he graduated...so, I think it's a little skewed by how big of a personality he has and the success he's had. Otherwise, this is pretty reasonable. 

I don't think it's sad. One more year in College? I'd take it!

Kerkvliet is going to be 23 before the NCAAs and Stevenston will be 24 throughout the tournament. He's already won an Olympic Gold...

 

How about Kerk goes out and beats his ass? The dude is built like a TANK, he's longer, bigger, probably stronger than Stevenson. Why not? Other than the fact that Kerk looks like he's bothered or annoyed to have to Wrestle most of the time, there's no reason he can't give him a match. 

 

You want to talk about legacies, this is a chance for Kerk to cement a Snyder like Collegiate legacy. For him to knock off Stevenson and win a 2nd title, that'd be a helluva story.

can you clarify what all that means? Normally I'd try to summarize the other guys opinion to see if they agree but I legit can't do it in this case.
