" Not a fan when Cael did it, and not a fan now."

--------------------------

Cael did it as a result of his Team pushing him. Taylor is not doing that.

If he wants to try & the School is OK - as it seems - Why not?

Wasn't that long ago when Midlands was the Premier tournament that one might find they were going head to head with one or more of their coaches.

What other sport has this happen?

Most getting into coaching are not working out with their athletes. One main reason Dan Gable retired was he could not roll on the mat with them any longer after joint replacement surgeries.

you don't think competing at wtt and worlds would be a distraction? odd, but to each their own. pretty obvious that it would be.

Not odd at all.  I explained that they have a publicly stated coaching philosophy that coaches wrestle with the athletes as much as possible.  Whether he makes the team or not, he will be wrestling with the athletes as much as possible through the end of October.

If OSU had a competitor at 92 KG then I would have a problem with him competing.  But right now he is doing exactly what he would be doing (wrestling with his athletes), and bringing positive attention to his program.  It's obvious this is very positive for OSU wrestling.  You making general statements about distraction doesn't change how this is a positive for OSU wrestling (as recognized by their AD and everyone around the program).

so your employer is cool with you doing things on company time that aren't for your job? his job is to coach, not compete. how is that so hard for you to comprehend?

OSU was coole with John Smith wrestling at worlds on 1991, the Olympic trials in 1992, and the Olympics in 1992 when he was head coach.  Not sure why this would be a problem.  That was Smiths first year as head coach too.

Great idea. We need more coach wrestle offs.

Need a coach wrestle off as the #1 dual tiebreaker criteria. each team has to designate a light, middle and upper weight coach. first takedown wins. whoever wins 2 of the 3 wins the dual.

I have no notes. A+

So if it's Iowa vs Ok State  does DT become head coach of both programs?

An interesting thought for it being bad, but no.  Call it copying Cael, call it an ego trip, call it whatever.  I think that Okie State will be left in good hands during this time period.

As a big fan of DT, I am afraid he will not accomplish his goals this year of winning. The stakes are really high for him. I feel like I will feel the drama watching him today and at Worlds(because he will mKs the team).

DT's post-finals interview did a lot to address any concerns.  He talked to the team before making the decision, talked to administrators, then made the decision.  The school's support is pretty obvious, including the AD's statement.  Afterwards, DT said he hadn't decided yet if he was going to actually compete at Worlds, recognizing his job takes precedence and that he'd discuss it further with the team, and any real concerns about it interfering would carry the day.  He also was pretty honest that a lot of this was about not wanting to end his career on a down note, and he's now addressed that.

Maybe his words are partly self-serving BS as he really wants to go and is just watching his step, but even so, he's at least saying and considering the right things.  If I had to guess I'd say he goes either way, as I think the AD is right about the branding benefit for OSU, and the team will benefit from seeing close-up what it means to prepare for but at least he's saying the right things.  And worlds are over before the season starts.

Highlighting your words for emphasis...

You highlighted your own words, though.
