Word on the street is that DT is going to wrestle at WTT. I think it's a terrible idea. If he makes the team, he is going to have to miss a lot of coaching time to train for worlds. It's a distraction and seems to be driven by ego. He is trying to copy his daddy, Cael. Not a fan when Cael did it, and not a fan now. He is making 1M a year to coach, not to hold on to his glory years.

Is the street a reliable place to get the word...

Just when i think you can't POSSIBLY come back on here and say something more stupid than you did you continue to prove me wrong.

He's a grown ass adult. If he wants to wrestle he'll wrestle.

What coaching time is he missing?  The new staff has pushed the idea that coaches wrestle with the team instead of sitting on the wall.  Worlds are in 7 weeks.  It seems like training for worlds will consist of him wrestling with his team a lot over the next 7 weeks.  If he doesn't make the team it seems like he'd spend the next 7 weeks wrestling with his team.

But I'm sure him and Cael will make note of you not being a fan and will give that the appropriate consideration.

so your employer is cool with you doing things on company time that aren't for your job? his job is to coach, not compete. how is that so hard for you to comprehend?

you don't think competing at wtt and worlds would be a distraction? odd, but to each their own. pretty obvious that it would be.

The opposite. I think this is a great idea. He can coach and prep for Worlds and show his team how it's done on the biggest stage. I think this can be very motivating and potentially serve as an exercise in bringing the team together.

I hope he shows up, wins trials, and beats Sadulaev for the gold at World's to close his competitive career.

It's all upside. Book it.

his boss seems to approve:

I think it’s a great thing any time that we can put the brand of the program out in the wrestling world,” OSU athletic director Chad Weiberg said in a statement. “For our team here to see him competing and doing the things to get ready to compete, it only makes what’s happening in our room better.”

It was a distraction for Cael when he did it back in 2011 and the team suffered greatly for it as they dropped from 1st in 2011 to 1st in 2012.
