ShallengeLoast

Well... great.

But would you share with us that particular post or link that would show said "ShallengeLoast" which was hilarious & nicely done?

( ... or do we need to show the secret handshake in order to see this?)

Inquiring minds would like to know!

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I saw the title of the thread and knew immediately what this would be about.    Based on your question, I have to question if you watched any of the matches of the Olympics.   Many had challenges and many were lost.  Go back and watch Dake's Bronze match.   You'll see it.

“We have unresearched question by blue, basic googling not executed, we then have pushout and exposure by other posters…we have one red, then two red, and one more red for unseccusseful challenge, so score 4 red, 0 blue AND…shallenge loast!”

I saw that our kind board host changed one of his social media tags to this on some random post of his.  Almost made me spit my drink out when I read it.

If you missed the olympics, there was an obnoxious donk who narrated every challenge throughout the entire tournament, and who exerted some rather blatant abuses of power in a few cases to try to sway matches in one direction or the other.  At best he was really bad at his job, he also had an exceedingly thick accent, and was very exuberant in his proclamations of “challenge won!” or “challenge lost!”

Not a fan of video review in any sport, but I thought the official giving a detail explanation was a big improvement. The reviews went fairly quickly and the announcement and his emphasis gave it a little bit more drama.

Actually, I DID watch the wrestling on Peacock... and have seen that person, announcing the decision of the thrown challenge brick by the coach's corner w/the Challenge WON or Challenge LOST verdict. I AM familiar with it.😉

He’s the review guy for all the tournaments I’ve been to. It seems like that’s his job with UWW. Attend events and review/announce the challenges. I don’t think he is the only one that decides the outcome. I’ve always seen a couple other people that watch the video with him, but I don’t know what that actual process is. I don’t always agree with the calls, but he does a good job of showing and explaining what is called.

The guy was not new at the olympics, he's been doing this for a while, worlds included.   And he is good at is job, not everyone in the world speaks in an American dialect.  He's not the decision maker, he is the one explaining the decision made, which is probably why he was getting a little frustrated with Dake acting like a child to him.

Thought this was a well officiated olympics. Name me one horrific call. Usually there is beyond multiple and is one of the takeaway storylines. Not this year.

The review guy actually was quite decisive and his scoring always added up

I agree overall it was good but there were some head scratchers:

Takatani pinned call

Rivera not being pinned call (hate to admit it)

All the cautions that allowed Zhamalov to win his first match

I’d agree it was well officiated, some of the scoring in Dakes semis I could’ve seen going a different way, but I also don’t think it impacted the final result.

Also, what was Dake even challenging towards the end of the bronze match? “That’s the wrong sequence!” Me and my wrestling buds were watching together and couldnt figure out what to try and overturn. It was funny hearing Burroughs on the mic throwing a little flak basically calling him wrong live while it was happening. Glad he could turn it up at the end to win, wish he wrestled like that all 6 minutes. I say that as a complete Monday night couch quarterback.

I was wondering if he was saying that what they were showing was from the wrong period but as JB said- the time was clearly around 2:00 left which puts it in the 2nd period. Or was he saying that what they meant to argue was from the first period? It was far too late to argue something from the first period.

Everything on here, plus 50% of all greco calls, just coin flip who do we feel like we want to win this match.  Totally arbitrary.

What people maybe couldn’t see on tv was that during the sequence from 2:00-1:00 when Dake got taken down, the chairman was waving at the other officials to stop the match. He even went as far as to nearly throw a stuffed animal on the mat, meanwhile action continued and Dake got scored on. I think the challenge may have had something to do with this.

Is it just me, or did the guy say "Challenge Lost" in a way that made it seem like he was really happy about it, and trying to rub it in?

English has a natural undulation of stressed and unstressed syllables. When we (English speakers) want to be demonstrative we often stress several syllables in succession, I.e. spondees.

French is generally a "flatter" language with each syllable receiving the same stress (there are exceptions that are marked with various notations).

As a result, French speakers often describe the sound of native English as a roller-coaster. And English speakers often describe the English of native French speakers as rude.

When we hear that "ShallengeLoast" guy putting the same stress on every syllable, we interpret it as overly forceful. . . but maybe he just has a poor feel for the rhythm of English.

Or maybe the guy was on a power trip.

Zhamolov's quarterfinal win over the Albanian Russian was horrible.
