5th opportunity to be at NCAAs

Fix is a Fixture.   Perhaps they should let him in every year with an honorary at large bid.

He turned 26 yesterday (March 11) and I suppose he could actually wrestle against someone who is 8 years younger if he gets a true freshman.

He probably has "old man" (Dad) strength.

This is what got him in trouble.

That is f*cking preposterous.  I don’t do this often, but to quote rob koll on this very concept, “c’mon, at some point you have to grow up and move in.”

A loss to Crookham in the finals.......would 4 runner-up finishes set a record?

That would be a record. His age for a non-military wrestler would be close to a record for NCAA finalist.

Which NCAA qualifiers will be taking advantage of their fifth opportunity to be at NCAAs?

  • Fix
  • Lewis
  • Z. Elam

Anyone else?

I’ve got Fix with a 16-5 NCAA tournament career record. I think at some point on old forums we figured out Myles Anine had the record for most matches at NCAA tournament, I forget the number but high 20s. Myles had 5 tournaments as well. Fix should end up close and if by chance he loses early and makes a run back to 3rd he might own it. Lewis not as many with the year where he defaulted out after losing in quarters. No clue on Elam career count.

Myles Amine had 30 matches, followed by John Fisher at 29, and Jaydin Eierman at 28. Fisher did his in only 4 years (8, 7, 8, 6)

Imagine if Fix and Davis were in the same weight class.  It would be a 26 year old wrestling a 15 year old...

I generally like Rob Koll, but I don't think he would apply this line of thinking to Vito.

I think he would have told Vito he was done after last year.  He would have made the smarter long-term move for Vito, sat him for this year, had him finish his school credits, and be ready for the olympic process.

This year absolutely looks like it took the tread off Vito's tires.

Would it be more accurate to say Koll would be too busy hanging out with boosters and attending fundraisers to have the time to actually have a conversation with Vito?

I think Coach Koll liked Vito's points.

I just hope somebody - anybody - talks to the ridiculousness of Fix's participation in this year's tourney on ESPN's telecast this year and to the fact that he could've taken his 2nd ORS and been competing next season.

In team sports, these extra years, COVID and otherwise, are killing chances for high school athletes to join college teams. This will trickle into individual sports like wrestling if this nonsense is not stopped.

Nate Tomasello was 1,3,3,3 with a record of 23-3 over four seasons (I think) of comp. at NCAA's.

Fix must badly want to win a title.

Similar to:

Megaludis 2,2,3,1

Cory Clark 5,2,2,1

Meredith 2,4,2

Sasso 2,5,2

Only his 4th.  One of those years at VT was 2020.  No tournament
