The records are gaudy.

I know its a week away,  but looking at the lineups. (If they hold)This could be a close dual.  but i wouldn't be surprised if Woods was the only scorer for Iowa.

I have more confidence in a PSU shutout than an Iowa win.

On that note,  what is the worst Iowa loss in the last 20ish years.?

quick look so definitely could have missed some, Ok St beat them 27-12 '18-'19 season, PSU beat them 28-13 '17-'18 season, back a little further Minnesota beat them 25-9 '05-'06.

Can anybody top the ILLINI's 2005 win with the score of 25-7? The question is whether PSU has wrestled a dual this season with its full, expected, post-season lineup.

That OSU match was 1/11/2024 which is more than 20 years ago, but is 20ish years ago.  The worst Iowa loss of the past 20 years is that Illinois loss mentioned earlier.

The worst defeat of Brands's tenure was 13-29 against Minnesota in Carver Hawkeye on 2/18/2007.

Iowa better pin their first four because its going to get dirt nasty the deeper into this match they go. For Penn State:

157 #1 Levi

165 (should be) #1 Mitchel

174 #1 Star Rocky

187 #4ish Bernard True Axe is their "weakest" guy matching up against their weakest guy, unless they pull Gabraham Arnold.

197 #1 Aaron and the Holy Trinity

Heavy boys - #1 Sleepy Greg.

So in my eyes, which do not lie, it goes #1, #1, #1, easy match, #1, #1. At least Iowa matches up pretty well in the first 4 matches. That could blow up in their face early in this dual assuming they start at 125.

I am really liking Star Rocky, but maybe take out the space? StarRocky?

I think he'd be fine with it either way. Too busy teching the top 10 and giving Maryland's coach a piece of his mind.

Your Jombo™ slander can't hurt me. But to answer your question, yes. The Jombos™ traveled real well even on probation.

Hmm ... I don't remember seeing a Jombo or a Jumbo at that one.  🤔

All I care about is that, for the most part, they should be great match ups from bottom to top.  There are a few that maybe won't live up to expectations but if everyone is healthy and everyone wrestles this should be a great event.

I could see a situation that if Iowa gets some good wins in the lower weights they could put Arnold out there but that's just hopeful thinking on my part.

I'm hoping PSU weighs in Bearclaw and Starocci at 174 and then Carter bumps up to take out Arnold.

Arnold isn't wrestling.  They are saving his redshirt.

it's gonna be rough for Iowa. Guys that they count on normally like kennedy and glazier are going to get killed. If they came out of 157/165 with a wash you'd have to call that a huge win for Iowa. I doubt franek gets majored, but lord only knows what messenbrink is capable of at this point

also unless a fall comes out of nowhere its hard to imagine Iowa winning the dual without taking 6 matches, so based on that Iowa has to win the first 6 matches or something? not looking good

Could get ugly for Iowa or it could be really close as PSU sends 3 freshmen out into a sold out hostile arena. Some awesome matchups for sure at 125, 141, 157, and 165. With it being at CHA though, I'm guessing we see a young PSU stud get "carvered". Let's all put it on TV and blow the Iowa vs. Iowa State numbers out of the water.

125- Davis vs. Ayala.
-Great matchup out of the gate. I wouldn't be surprised to see Davis win here as I think he's likely to finish higher in Kansas City. My pick is the 15k+ fans in attendance play a role on the young freshman and we see Ayala pick up a late takedown for the win. 3-0 Hawks

133- Nagao vs Schriever
-Don't really see a competitive match here. Nagao looking for bonus here. 4-3 PSU

141- Bartlett vs Woods
-Woods the clear favorite from neutral, also underrated top game. Controlled decision here. 6-4 Hawks

149- Kasak vs. Rathjen
-Coinflip match that Iowa needs if they want to stay in this dual. Edge Kasak. 7-6 PSU

157- Haines vs. Franek
-Haines has looked vulnerable this year. Had to pull a few matches out of his hat after being down late. Think it might be weight cut related and we see Haines up at 165 next year. That being said, winners win. Haines dec. 10-6 PSU

165- Messenbrink vs. Caliendo
-Messenbrink by dec. 13-6 PSU

174- Starocci vs. Kennedy
-Kennedy looked great against Ruth. Starocci is putting together a hodge campaign and a whole other animal though. Kennedy will just be trying to limit the bonus. Starocci by major 17-6

184- Truax vs. Riggins
-Riggins has lost 7 of his last 10 matches. Truax will be looking for (and finding) early termination for sure. Tech. 22-6 PSU

197- Brooks vs. Glazier
-The other hodge candidate in this dual vs the breakout star of the Hawks. As great as Glazier has been, he won't be able to stop a top 5 guy in the world from bonus. Brooks by major 26-6 PSU

285- Kerk vs. Hill
-With the dual out of reach, I don't think Tom sends out Kueter. It wouldn't matter if he did. Too big, too strong, too good on top, Kerk looks for early termination and finds it. Tech. 31-6 PSU

*Looks like a blowout but realistically 125, 141, 149, 157, and 165 could go either way and it wouldn't be crazy to see Iowa winning 5 weights.
