If Brands & Co. end up bringing in the Ferrari's following this past weekend's antics, do we think that Iowa will start losing recruits that are already committed (I.e. DeLuca) and recruits that are still uncommitted? I have to imagine it would have some affect on recruiting.

Just to be clear, this is NOT intended to be a Ferrari thread, we have enough of those.

Wasn't Chittum the start?

Fair point. I always forget he was never actually enrolled at Iowa and was in fact still a recruit.

I imagine someone that committed recently, like DeLuca, already had a pretty good idea the Ferraris were going to be on board and what they were about. It probably won’t help potential recruits that are interested but not committed though.

My counter argument to that would be that DeLuca committed before this past weekend's antics took place. Maybe now he realizes how off the rails they really are?

Sure, I guess it’s possible.  Just like it’s possible Anthony Knox decommits from Cornell after seeing that they don’t care about dual meets and wrestlers with concussions

I don't know about current recruits, but I could see the current team rebel against them if the Ferrari's end up on the roster.

Think we see guys transfer out?

My 0.02...

i don't think they lose any recruits specifically b/c of the Ferrari thing/s

but i do think they've lost recruits in the past b/c of shenanigans/antics/behavior and

the Ferrari thing/s do nothing but continue it

At least Deluca won't have to wrestle them in the room.  Less impacted.

Deluca is slick and doesn't seem like the Iowa Style type of a person but hopefully he does well there.

I do think this will hurt recruits.

Deluca is a bulldog. Looks like Tom and Terry reincarnated.

Wrestles way different though. He's not your typical "Iowa style". I'd say he closer to Okie State style.

Way prior to the Ferrari's going to Iowa you've had high profile former Hawkeye wrestlers openly blasting the program and declaring it's a toxic environment.  The Ferraris didn't change the stank that's been coming out of Iowa for over a decade.  Just go read Kemerer's experience on a recruiting trip and how he almost backed out because of the shit show that it is.  I doubt the Ferrari's change anything on the recruiting front but it's highly probable they'll be the ones that get the Brands fired.

I was under the assumption that Kemerer was turned off by his Iowa visit because the guys that hosted him took him out partying, which he had no interest in doing. Which that happens at 99% of wrestling programs. I'm not sure he was turned off because of the bad culture surrounding the program, however. I could be wrong, but that's how I understood that situation.

The culture of any program lives on and off the field.  His exacts words,

“I just saw stuff off the mat that made me question things,” Kemerer says now. “I wasn’t sure how well I fit in here after seeing the culture."

He was talking about partying.

Yeah, everyone knows that.

Well, I think the partying culture at Iowa mostly came to an end while he was there. That's a big reason Brands wanted him.  So that's like 10 years without partying.

Not sure what it is like now or what it is going to be like going forward.

A very vast majority of programs party in the offseason, yes.

But you think 99% are taking underage recruits out partying with underage college athletes and all are just turning a blind eye to this?

Lol. Yes. Happens in EVERY college sport, not just wrestling. College athletes take recruits out and show them a good time.

Now there's always exceptions. Coach might tell the team beforehand, "Hey this kid doesn't like to party." And the team will adjust their plans accordingly. Trust me, I've seen/heard it more than you'd believe.
