Starocci has 3 and could get 5.

Brooks with 3 as well.

KO’T could be a 4 timer but those guys could be the next ones.

Of course he can. But 165 will still be stacked, so no easy feat. I also saw someone mention he could move up to 174, which would be interesting. Still doesn't appear to be a big 165, but he could put an end to Star's chase for 4, if he can get through Star's stalling, I mean defense.

Starocci scores a lot of TDs against top tier competition for a guy who stalls so much.

That would be a statement if he denied someone else their fourth in the process.

Like Mark Schultz with Ed Banach - even though Banach had not yet won his third?

Since the national tournament last year he has pretty much destroyed everyone except Mekhi and Nelson Brands. In all other matches he has really opened up and scored a lot of points.

Can be a 4xer?  Possibly  The next 4xer? Probably not.

Both Brooks and Starocci could do it next year and it would take Keegan O'Toole at least two more years.  So to get him to be the next 4xer you gotta look at not only the probability that he wins two more but also the probability that neither Brooks or Starocci win one more before he can do that.

I just want to get past having 6, 7, and even 8 year seniors... they really water down the value of a "4x" anything.

That's not KOT, is it? Isn't he only in his 3rd year?

if anything it only adds to the mystique...

no whining...

everyone can show up if they want...

174 at some point is the rumor. However I see one more year at 165. He mentioned it in an interview last night, his best friend on the team is Mocco, who holds down 174. KOT said he and Mocco have been wrestling together since they were 9/10 yr olds and I don’t see either of them moving up next year and KOT doesn’t seem like a guy to force his friend out of the lineup.

Wouldn't 165 be a more natural weight for Mocco anyway?

No - that's not KOT. My point wasn't directed at any particular wrestler(s), just the situation.

Not to disparage him because he’s proven to be one hell of a wrestler as an underclassman, but he did get the bonus year of the tournament though where he was 3rd. And he could easily take a year off to try a qualify for the Olympics.  So I’d say he may end up a 25yo senior who is not too far off from that description.

He’s going into his 4th tournament next year. Took 3rd, 1st, 1st. If it wasn’t for the free year he could only be a 3 timer. He was same year as Starocci except Starocci is 3 for 3. Ferrari was the only guy like Starocci that could have went for 5 titles but we all know that story..

personally I don’t see Starocci coming back for his 5th and based on his interview who knows if he even comes back for 4

still doesn’t make sense why NCAA is giving people 5 tournaments to compete in while screwing guys like Joseph, Hall, Kolodzik, etc who only got 3

Still one of the most impressive feats in wrestling history for me is Dake bumping up to finish off with 4 by stopping Taylor from his chance at 3. It’s not the exact same scenario, but if KOT does that to Starr he will be on similar badass level to Dake (which is rare company).

He also may have redshirted his first year if it wasn't a free year.

All the 4xers (so far) had very different different routes to doing so.

Pat Smith took a redshirt after his 3rd title due to sanctions against the team.

Cael did the standard RS first year and then rattled off four undefeated seasons.

Dake went four straight with no RS.

Stieber wrestled as a true freshman but got injured and took a medical RS before winning four straight.

If O'Toole were to win four (we're still a long way from that) with a bonus 3rd place as a true freshman, it wouldn't be any less impressive than Stieber's four, in my opinion. And he's won his first two titles in some incredibly deep weights, which won't get much easier over the next two seasons.

O’toole was a true freshman and has stated that he planned to redshirt in 2021, but decided to wrestle because of the ‘free year’.

Starocci is a year older, redshirted in 2020 and got 19 matches of experience before the free year in 2021.

Good chance they’d both be three timers if they were the same age.

How would Starocci be a three timer?  He is 3 for 3.  Otoole is 2 for 3. Not trying to diminish Otoole but to say you’re a 4 timer if you had 5 cracks at it isn’t the same as being a 4 timer with 4 cracks it.

Of the four timers currently, they only had 4 tournaments to compete in not 5

bottom line. No one should have 5 tournaments to compete in

They all had one thing in common. They wrestled in 4 tournaments not 5
