See you in Tulsa in December ... I'll buy you a beer if you drink that sort of stuff.

BTW:  I think if a non Oklahoma team wins NDI then all their fans, who came winning year, should get to attend for free the next year.  So the 2025 Ohio St attendees should get in free this year.  Just my idea but prob impossible to enforce & know who are the true fans.

The payouts from NDI are so large that I wonder if the hit in ticket sales for that event for the couple hundred fans from last year's winner would be costly to the payouts/structure? But yes, they could have you re-register the following year with your old confirmation number or something for your free tickets to NDI the next season, should your team accept the invite (all champ teams should have to return and defend the title)

Being framed as a big deal cuz the coaches wrestled each other once upon a time in the same dual...probably the last time they met (if I'm not mistaken, and partially why it's being billed as a big deal)

there were years when it would have been a good dual. Is UNI better than last year? obviously Iowa is not gonna be what it has in years past, which not that I say it is a blessing.

more money if it’s in Stillwater, etc.

A lot more money when they win the tournament, which could have been prevented had PSU shown up and beaten them (or attempted)

I believe UNI is better than last year on paper currently, but I agree that 2 or 3 years ago would have been better than last year (and just good in general). But it has to start somewhere and if this is the season, then good for them to bring it back. Just in time for Hayden Schwab to be a huge thorn in the Iowa side for 4-5 years. Lucky for Doug!

Just give them free GA tics won't be that expensive and bet payout comes from a different pot of money.

Might be a way to encourage more out of state fans to show and support their ... but nit fans need not apply.

I drink beer because I’m 40 (sometime ago) and a man. Does your offer count for me? 😅

Your first and third paragraph kinda contradict each other.  I agree with the first, disagree with the third.  He’s not refusing to wrestle OK State to protect seeds.  From a pure wrestling standpoint, I think there’s probably a little bit of not wanting the OK State guys to get multiple cracks at them.

But the biggest reason IMO is related to your first paragraph.  He’s not happy DT went there, and he knows they’re coming for him.  Allowing this dual to happen likely gives OK State more momentum regardless of whether they win or lose - more content for Stilly boys, more money if it’s in Stillwater, etc.

Overall, I don’t think it’s fair for people to say “CaEl DoEsN’T wAnT tO gRoW tHe SpOrT!”  He does care about growing the sport, he just cares more about winning.  And scheduling this dual helps OK State get closer to beating him.

IMO if the only thing stopping having a dual between the two best teams on college wrestling is that one team refuses to because they're afraid that competition will hurt them more than help, there should be some sort of ruling in college wrestling that makes it happen.

Take the choice out of the coaches hand for the betterment of the product that is college wrestling and have the top two teams face each other.

It's weak and lame that Penn State does everything in their power to wrestle as easy of a schedule as they can and that we so rarely get to see the best guys in the country get tested.

To add, I think there’s also the chance that Cael doesn’t want OSU guys to get a feel for his guys, in any manner.

They're the better team and they are best coaches in the country. I think with the call out, PSU obviously doesn't have to oblige, but I do think it is a bit of a tough look for the best team in history to refuse to schedule the dual that literally every single fan of the sport wants to see.

They can keep doing what they're doing and only care about March, but if OSU is out here wrestling a real schedule, giving us solid events to watch during the regular season, and PSU just hides until March, I think they will only face harsher criticism and lose more favor within the wrestling community. Win or Lose.

Dumb.  I’m no PSU fan but Cael actually does a decent amount to grow the sport.  For example in the duals they do wrestle we usually get all the starters.  They also always have away duals against smaller schools to help their attendance.

So your opinion is that Pyles doesn't have to ask hard questions because we know Cael is gonna dance around them anyway? (none of us expect pyles to browbeat him)

If it is thats fine.

If it’s a question he’s already answered elsewhere, no I don’t think it needs to be asked.  Of course if he asks questions that are too hard then there might not be more interviews.  CP did a good job overall, the comments are also like 99% positive which isn’t always the case for -

Ok well my retort would be that I think dishonest answers should be met with follow up questions, and people who don't answer honestly might as well not give interviews anyway, and CP should say as much himself as opposed to pandering to cael at the expense of his own reputation (in my opinion).  But fair enough.

Well that’s nice of them to start their starters during what duals they do participate in..

Smoking a small school at home for their attendance is awful generous of them as well…clearly doing it for them and not to fill a schedule with the absolute bare minimum in competition…

Well unfortunately the same can’t be said for many other coaches

I can’t speak for all coaches but I know Tom Ryan throws his guys out there…and when the guys are legitimately hurt he’ll throw some guys out there you wouldn’t expect just so they get the experience of an absolute beating. That guy doesn’t duck anything…

this is a decent point, I'd just say Cael is such a dominant position its not quite fair to compare him to say....Cal State bakersfield hiding ferrari from stephen little. National champs are literally not a big deal for PSU, thats the only program you can say that about.

I think that’s even more reason that people might expect him to sit guys.  Yeah they don’t wrestle a ton, but when they do (except when they send their backups to dominate the Southern Scuffle), they pretty much always wrestle all their guys.

You said this and then didn't substantiate it. I'm with you that they put their guys out more than other programs, but thats mitigated a little bit because they've had a national champ the last 15 years, as we know almost all of those years featured multiple champs. Every other team except probably oklahoma state (didn't have a champ in 2024 but they're such a hot commodity now I'm pretty sure we all consider them PSU tier, not same level but same league) is still working to show they still have their foot in that door on a yearly basis.

I guess i'm saying, when you've got this much breathing room you have the luxury of not insulting your own fans, at least in this context.

He’s been highly criticized for wrestling guys through injuries and makes the kids earn every bit of everything they get. I don’t know what the perception is on the outside but those that follow the program never say he ducks anything…
