DT and the "Open Date"

I don't see a thread on this, so here goes ...

The other day, Taylor responded to a reporter's question about the possibility of a PSU dual this season by saying that OSU will a save a date  ... in perpetuity. In turn, some of the flo guys and folks on social media claim that DT was "calling out" Sanderson and co. 

To be fair, Pyles pushed back against the "sensational" framing of DT's comments. But, what do you think? What's DT doing?

I imagine DT and his team BELIEVE they could win. This mindset is why he is who he is, and why he attracts the wrestlers he attracts. But, any objective fan's gotta know that PSU wins handily for the foreseeable future.

Anything can happen in a dual meet.  That being said, Sanderson refused to wrestle Cornell during in the not so distant past.

I think the dual meet with Ok State should happen. It helps grow the sport. But, it may be dangerous for psu.

I think DT is saying they are up for the challenge and willing to dual.  Do they believe they can win ... sure.  If all the NCs win its like a 15 to 16 dual on paper.  Does that happen in grumpy valley ... no.  Can it happen in Stilly ... sure it could.

It's a good example of leadership (and recruiting) from DT.  Even if he takes a loss he wins PR points by utilizing the "Say When" motto.

He did talk about how difficult it is to create a schedule in the full press conference also.

Cael sucks. He killed the movement to make dual's matter on behalf of the idea that the NCAA tournament was too important to undermine for anything, well he's undermined that completely by being too good, now he's circling back to make sure their are no dual meets that matter....he'll be happy when there is only PSU.

I find it weird it has become a "thing" and gotten some PSU fans riled up. DT wants to wrestle the best and PSU is the best.

I'm saying the fact that some people have taken issue with what he said is weird. Of course he wants to wrestle PSU. It was a pretty non-offensive.

well anyone pretending to be offended it doing an extremely poor job making a smoke screen for Cael to hide behind. They're just lying basically, i wouldn't even pay attention.

Idk, but it might be bc wrestling also awards individual titles? Seems to explain that last few years.

DT: here is an answer good enough to make you guys stop asking me about PSU

Everybody except PSU fans: makes sense, great wrestling is great wrestling

PSU fans: no thanks we don’t actually enjoy the sport we just like wins and records

Is Penn state going to or ever enter the National Duals? Wouldn't have to schedule an extra dual with Okie St that way.

Cael cares about Cael more than anything…no amount of talk is going to change that. NCAAs are all that matters and he’s going to do everything in his power to give his guys the best chance possible to make him look as good as possible. You do that by taking the easiest paths possible to getting your guys the top seeds. Best way to get team titles? Get your guys to wrestle 33 seeds every tournament and not see anyone above 4 until the semis. Let the other teams battle it out and casual fans say “oh man PSU is dominating!” Yea weird…

What if Oklahoma St were to pay say Indiana to come to Stillwater and dual Utah Valley and the Pokes just show up in Bloomington unannounced to take on Penn St.  Would Carl put the boys back on the bus to Grumpy Valley?
