VaTech has a great marketing opportunity here. Anytime he gets a tech with the first takedown and the last takedown, they should be called the Alpha and Bomega.

100% Bo would be against that…as he should be

I was initially thinking of using BΩbα Sett and doing a mandalorian thing but it sounded forced and silly

Yes.  Bassett is very religious (at least what he shows the public) Christianity 101…do not put yourself on the level of the creator. 100% he’d chose to make his money other ways.

Hmmm... may want to read Matthew 6:5 where it warns against making a show of public prayer. The constant wearing of Jesus shirts, promoting Jesus during interviews, after matches and on podcasts (not just Bassett but the trend of the last number of years for many wrestlers). Trying to look overly pious lends me to believe otherwise, now this may not be the case for everyone, but knowing the actions of many who overtly talk about religion to promote their purity in front of the camera is not a good look. And this is coming from a lifelong Lutheran.

Correct…public prayer and glorification is not fine if it  intended to be boastful/prideful. I’ve read them…I also understand the context behind them. There’s nothing wrong with them proclaiming the good news publicly if the intentions are righteous…

There's the rub. Righteous... using it to join the Jesus club or draw attention to yourself, or seem like what you are doing is above reproach, Or build to your brand. Different story. If someone says "good job on the victory" as they interview you on live TV and the first thing out of your mouth is "All glory to God," instead of being humble and saying "thank you" first,  I question the "God response."  Not that I fault someone for giving glory to God, it is they way it is done, the place and time. Many times the way it is done feels like an "I am better than you because..." statement.

I don't think they are acting pious and promoting their purity.  More like I had problems and got the mental strength I needed.  Maybe they just prayed they wouldn't eat and could make weight.  Maybe they wouldn't be in that interview if they gave into that feeding temptation. 🤷‍♂️

My question is, why do they feel compelled they need to profess their faith to the world in an interview or on social media? I watch a lot of professional tennis and the first thing pro tennis players do is complement their opponent or thank their own team (their coaches, trainers ect). The God profession in wrestling seems to be a trend. The thanking of opponent or team in pro tennis also is a trend or maybe a better term a blueprint for a way to carry out that sports interview. That is just the way it is done. So, if it is a common blueprint, is it a real connection to their religious faith or is it just the way others do it so I will join the pack. "He's really good and says it's because of God, so I'm going to do it to."  Just as when I was young, I read an article that Dan Gable ran a mile before the tournaments he competed in so I decided to do the same thing (but that was in private and it didn't last long for me).

Like I said Pro tennis players don't stay up all night with their stomach grinding with lots of food in the room down the hall.

They are usually alluding to their faith giving them mental strength.  If it a trend, then maybe they picked it up, and gained mental strength so are just passing it along?

Those top tennis players are engaged in an extraordinarily demanding sport physically and to win a big tournament have to keep their focus for 20 hours worth of matches. The mental strain from that could easily be a basis for falling back on faith.

I know all about the sleepless nights with cotton mouth and a stomach that feels like it's caving in on itself. An whether or not it was God who helped me make it through the night without running to the bathroom sink and sucking down two pounds of water, I don't see what makes it necessary to tell everyone God gave me the strength.

I agree. I think the life of a top 100 tennis player is an extremely difficult life. For a male tennis player to win one of the top prizes (a grand slam) they must win seven matches in two weeks, each lasting an average of 3 hours each.  That is 21 hours of playing time per tournament. The top tennis players compete an average of 22 weeks per year.

And after a win. It is more about thanking or congratulating those around you. "Thank you to my team who help me get to where I am today."

I’m more blown away that we have Christians rebuking other Christians for giving thanks to God and/or doing it before coaches, family, friends etc…

We have absolutely no idea what’s on these guys/girls hearts in the moment. But telling genuinely well meaning people (because they’re out there) as Christians to keep their faith at home is crazy….
