I’m more blown away that we have Christians rebuking other Christians for giving thanks to God and/or doing it before coaches, family, friends etc…

Is that what you genuinely feel is happening?

I’m not above being wrong by any means but that is how I took some of the comments. I could have have read something wrong…just seemed like there were a lot of assumptions on individuals intent or where their hearts are (which we obviously can’t know), which order they should address God if they’re going to or pointing to scripture without context to say it’s wrong to say anything publicly.

Do you realize there are probably close to 50,000 different denominations of Christianity? When someone asks me my religion I do not say Christian. I say Lutheran. I sometimes make sure they know I am ELCA specifically (and then I explain what that means if they ask).

Correct…public prayer and glorification is not fine if it  intended to be boastful/prideful. I’ve read them…I also understand the context behind them. There’s nothing wrong with them proclaiming the good news publicly if the intentions are righteous…

Read the Virtue of Selfishness... great text.

This is not directed towards any individual athlete but given the topic, I find that what I think the correlation between so many high level I will say combat athletes specifically and having strong faith is their ability to give over the outcome to something or someone that is outside of their control. It seems like just listening to interviews across MMA and wrestling this allows athletes to compete with a lot less pressure and doubt.

Yes…and very much so into apologetics. Not sure why you’re trying to talk down to others, especially when you don’t know their baseline, but it’s a bit off putting. It’s a big reason people push back against the faith…we clearly have different approaches to how we apply our faith to our daily interactions. I’m fine with athletes giving thanks and crediting God in post event interviews…I’ll just leave it at that.

Who cares they're just saying their faith which ever one helped. What are you saying there are 50000 Christs?

You making sure they know, your ELCA is what you're complaining about.

And your tennis players do it frequently. They are interviewed in front of the camara thousands of times more. They have 20 tournaments a year. They have no need to say what they already said other times 15 minutes after the emotion in their interview after they have changed their clothes and put all their rackets away. And have to look at their 200,000$ Box seat group clapping.

Yes — **Novak Djokovic has publicly and repeatedly acknowledged his Orthodox Christian faith as a central part of his life.

A wrestler doesn't have a$50million incentive keeping him going.

Worked since 5yrs old to achieve a goal.

Just went through 6 minutes of a mental and physical test, maybe the biggest test of your life.

Take 15 steps of the mat.

What's going through your mind.

My prayers were answered.  Then thanks family goes and jumps in their arms.

Audience:  What wrong with this guy. What's his goal? Proclaiming he's pious?

Why do football players take a knee and make the sign of the cross after a touchdown catch? Why do Muslims give the sign of Thankfulness after a goal?

This is grand standing, what's wrong with these peolple?

yes

That's the self serving part I see but you don't.

" Don't let yourself see your otherself"    Some just pray they do their best.

I will say that heavy guy who bagged Ohio is kinda pretentious.

I will say that I do find the per cent that continually  Create social media content and suggest this is the only way forward and they are now healed obnoxious.

I would put them at 7%. Snyder, Aj, the PSU cult  all included.  Bo is out but getting close.
