I doubt he's looking for any kind of college coaching gig, good club coaches already make good money and have all the control. Bormet is the only one I can think of that went from running a successful kids club to college coaching, but I'm likely missing some.

Why does everyone hate Kevin Jackson?

No personal, first-hand info to offer here. I’ve heard things that suggest he’s not the best asset beyond his freestyle knowledge, which is vast but also a bit dated. If that in itself is true, he may be better suited for the CK club than for UM and its folk style program. Doesn’t mean he has to be deleted. I also think a strong desire to have younger staff that might resonate more with recruits and have more recency to build off of is a desire of people wanting to see continued upward trajectory. When you feel stagnation, people are going to want to find a fall guy, and the last few years have felt like a whiff after a great run before that. Other grumblings are that he does very little to attract people with his personality, and a small personality characteristic like that can drive a wedge between coach and trainee and absolutely inhibit growth.

These are just a few of the things that I’ve heard/have been perpetuated from others who are closer to the program. Does not mean that any of it is necessarily true or accurate, but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t at least a bit of truth there.

I’m kind of in the camp that wants to move on from him, but I’ve been fairly vocal about trying to steal Kellen Russell for the Churrella opening and move Dieringer up in replace of KJ, and keep KJ in the room for Freestyle for as long as he wants to be around. Then find a younger guy trying to cut their teeth to take over for Dieringer on film and recruiting stuff. I’m just an idiot on the internet, tho.

Let’s not forget Ken Chertow… he’ll take any coaching gig just to plug Gold Medal Training Camps in the press release. 😅

Is Chertow’s Gold Medal Training Camp still in operation? I wouldn’t know, as I’ve successfully managed to move residences and change email addresses enough times to escape his annoying mailing/spam lists.

Why the others and not Ghadiali?

Parris 2nd -> 1st

Davison 5th -> 2nd

Heindselman NQ -> 7th

Ghadiali 8th -> 3rd

It is rather irrefutable the impact he has had on taking already developed talent and making them better at Michigan.

Who else has that track record four years running?  Nobody.

Parris came into college a stud (3x State Champion with a 206-1 record) now we can debate how much development was needed there but as far as heavyweights go he was likely going to be in contention early. So much so he led the Wolverines in wins his freshman year. Claiming development because he placed 2nd early in his career and won a title at the end is eh…especially deliberately ignoring his 5th place finish between them. And that one title coincides with Stephenson and others leaving the field…he’s a monster don’t get me wrong but he would have been anywhere.

Davison going from 5th to 2nd after transferring is a minimal move…is that coaching, seeding…the difference between 2 and 5 can be minuscule or massive because again Gable and others stepped away.

Heindselman was a round of 12 guy before transferring and finished 7th with Michigan…eh ok.

And the one I mostly pointed out, Taye, anyone…and I mean anyone that watched him his last year before transferring knew that he was a title contender wherever he went next. If not title contender he was certainly a top 4 type guy. I just don’t know how much credit you give a staff for taking a one year rental and he does what everyone thought he’d do anyway…

You are entitled to your opinion.  It is also wrong.

Every one of them developed later in their career, which is atypical.

You also help my point on Parris.  He did worse after taking 2nd and then after KJ arrived improved.  Davison 5th to 2nd is minimal?  That statement is where everyone scoffed, man.

Ignore placement improvements, which are factual.  Look at actual development only, then?  They all clearly developed later in their career, which is again atypical for transfers.

I’m not sure you know what “atypical”means…people don’t generally get better from oh let’s say freshman year of a sport to senior year? You used that term twice and I don’t think it means what you think it means…

Parris…that would be regression after finishing 2nd then going 5th or not performing where he should (count for or against coaching?). I mean that’s not just dropping a match but two right? He came back after Stephenson and them left and won his last year…good. He’s always been capable of that.

Glad to see you polled the group to find out everyone “scoffed” at saying 5 to 2 could be a minimal jump…we might even be the only ones reading this right now. I think you’re far too wrapped up in trying to win an argument here. There’s no real argument…just opinions and we could both be wrong.

HS Senior that had no room for improvement??? We've had 4xers who didn't AA, haven't we?

You write nice big paragraphs though. And you two are about the only reading available.  Carry on...💪

Atypical means not typical, right?  Since we have seen more 6th and 7th year seniors, there have been a large number that fade that last season (or two).  It is very hard to stay healthy and complete that college grind for four or five years, let alone six or seven.  The word was used properly.

Parris lost three times to Kerk his junior season (as well as Schultzy once), then beat Kerk three times and won the field that included Schultzy via going undefeated.  A lot of that is health, and a lot is improvement.

I don’t care about winning.  That 5th to 2nd take was absurd.  He showed drastic improvement as the season progressed.

Also, yeah... we have an exclusive group text.  You're fast on your way to getting an invite, brosefino.  I have enjoyed our back and forth and do respect your opinion.

I said it could be “minuscule or massive” in my defense and that’s based on coaching, seeding, strength of the weight class etc. Far more variables than just saying the end placements dictates his actual improvement level. Let’s give him credit for the 2 to 1 finish but not the 2 to 5 to 1 finishes…silly especially when no one’s arguing he’s not great.

No one said he had no room to improve…but I see what you did there. Good try…lol

When you said:

“Every one of them developed later in their career,”

I thought that seemed pretty typical to me…I never finished college though

I tend to lean on it being health and natural improvements/experience…just a belief of mine. I shouldn’t say that as an Ohio State fan but the guys always been a problem.

it has been enjoyable, I respect your opinion and general contributions to the site as well.

A lot of the hate for Kevin Jackson most certainly comes second hand from the actions of his wife, who has on numerous occasions gone on social media to complain specifically about white people getting coaching jobs and insinuating if you're a republican you're racist.
