This guy is totally cool.   Burroughs isn’t a legend.   Did I see a psu apology for it?  Not sure as I don’t think they did

Dave Schultz isn't a legend?

Olympic wrestler Tom Brands continued to accept funding from John du Pont’s Team Foxcatcher for a period following the murder of Dave Schultz in January 1996

Note:  I've got a million of these in the chamber if you want to keep going.  Just getting warmed up

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood

A woodchuck would, if a woodchuck could, chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could.

Any refs out there, was it also a mistake to stop the action even if it was a takedown, which it wasn't, because Duke had a cradle which even after a takedown he should have been allowed to continue with to pursue a fall until his locked hands were broken?

If you take a guy down to his back it continues until he gets off his back.  This situation was definitely officiated wrong, but that was not close to a situation where wrestling continues after the OT takedown to allow for a fall.

Got it thanks.  Surprising to me that it's a pinning hold and you don't get to try to finish.  It was definitely a mistake just wondered if it was even more senseless.

Under the current review rules, the reviewers are allowed to review an entire sequence, which wasn't the case a few seasons ago. This makes it even more important for referees to be 100% sure of their call before they make it, especially if it is part of a sequence of action. If they make a mistake in not awarding points, it can always be corrected by review. You can't help feel for any wrestler who thinks they have won the match only for the call to be overturned. About the only thing worse than that is when the overturned call occurs at the end of a match and the wrestlers don't get time to settle it on the mat. Going forward, PJ will need to focus on keeping wrestlers from tying up his hands by interlocking his fingers, especially on his left side. Robideau was able to really slow down PJ that way.

IMO why this call is worse than a standard missed call is because it results in less wrestling on the mat, less egregious to no call than to interrupt action (that will likely lead to a takedown, at that) just to no call

Their premature call of the takedown was entirely unfair for the reason stated but it was not a takedown when called. Tough one but actually was the “right” call in the moment…unfortuntely, it put both wrestlers back on their feet when pj had an overwhelming advantage when first incorrectly called..what rule change could solve that riddle.

This is only an issue in SV since action doesn’t get stopped in regulation or tiebreakers.  Not sure exactly how to word it but the solution is to make the rule that action in SV should continue until there is a clear stopping point.

Nah, this is an iconically bad call. Not quite top tier like getting actual scoring wrong or not calling an obvious pin.

But this has gotta be the 3rd worst I've seen since watching the tourney over like the last 30 years.

Just off the top of my head, a few that were worse:

1. Ian Miller

2. Ben Pasiuk pinning Mekhi Lewis and then not even getting awarded a takedown.

3 & 4. The two guys that got screwed by Max Dean getting favorable calls on his way to a title, I believe it was Jay Aiello & Lou Deprez

This is the only YT clip I see so far.  Watching it a bunch more times, I’m not sure Duke gets the TD if it continues.

With the way that Robideau can scramble that was far from a sure thing takedown. It did not look like PJ had his hands locked.

Funny story: I was watching with my wife, and she was totally confused when Rock said that Duke just "bullied" Robideau. She was like,"I didnt see him do anything uncalled for." I had to explain that "bullying" was a compliment.

Ahhh, wrestling and its virtues ...

Duke should have given up a caution point on 3 or 4 rolling starts that only a couple were called.

I'm surprised the ref can't "hold" the points until the action plays out to a definitive point.

Also referee position false starts that aren't called seem to be getting worse. Make them become set before whistle.

It wasn't the biggest robbery of the hour.  He got stopped from probably scoring by the action being stopped.  Davino got robbed of an actual score.

^this. This is the most accurate description of it.

I was referring to the Miller thing. That's got to be the worst of all time.

He already had the TD with the cradle, sat him on the hip, and briefly exposed his back. Three progressions without a reaction. The only reaction was getting out of danger and the TD should already be rewarded.

They tried to rob him twice in one match. Then they spent 10 minutes reviewing it. Tough kid. Between Blaze and Stanich I think there was only one legitimate shot. That is 17 minutes between them. They hold center and positioning but that is stalling if there are no attempts to score offensively.
