"Journalists" under fire...
The_KC_Godfather replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
For me, downplaying it when you only have one side of the story is the problem and I can see why the accusers are upset. There is clearly some evidence of wrong doing, otherwise, in the sue happy world we live in, there would be defamation lawsuits for the original article. CS was added to USA wrestling's "Interim Membership Suspension" list and booted from NLWC; Why, if it's a "nothing burger"? But, I do agree with others in this group that Willie/Flo/Basch/Mineo/etc. (whom I would call "wrestling enthusiast's" instead of "journalists") use their platforms to make money, and it's hard to get the clickbait needed if you lose your inside track by saying something that may upset your sources. I can't blame them for that...if only everyone was lucky enough to cover their sport for a living. It's a sensitive topic, so people are always going to be unhappy... -
Both are too small in my opinion

Well, let's see him earn the spot then? Wrestlestat favors Voinovich.

2025 Transfer Portal
Winners Circle replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in College Wrestling
@flyingcement If you don't understand the portal, no one does. -
All due respect, you shouldn’t lump yourself in with these other folks Mr Saylor. Your forum is a last bastion of free and open discussion in an increasingly paywalled universe. Slow-pedaling certain news about high impact, high click-generating programs is what people are talking about. It’s the Brady Belichik T-swift Mahomes parade, but with wrestling shoes. Honest reporting on important issues gets dismissed or under-reported, because nobody is willing to risk being locked out of Ohio State or Penn State for a decade. But that’s no longer journalism. Why did it take a non-wrestling journalist break the Ohio State hellickson-era story? Because that journalist needed to be outside the sport to be impartial and unaffected by the potential backlash from programs and coaches. If this Starrocci news was breaking at oregon state or little rock or Chattanooga, it would be completely dissected and completely out in the open, no holds barred. But with state college in particular, people treat that room the way they treat the vatican. And that’s not good. The inherent societal value of journalism is asking the unseemly questions at the inappropriate times. It is the magnifying glass society simultaneously offers and levels at all individuals. Asymmetric application is where the disapproval comes from.

I think Bates goes 197 and Hawks gives it a go at heavyweight (or just becomes the backup)

Brooks story: True or False?
BruceyB replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
I admittedly know very little about how all of this works, but I'd imagine there is something more significant coinciding with that test than just plain ol' over-the-counter DHEA. 4 years is crazy. -
Where does Evan Bates fit now that he has signed? One year of eligibility left for him and Hawks, who gets the nod? I also think we see Rath RS and take over 157 the following year. Idk if he can make and maintain 149.

2025 Transfer Portal
flyingcement replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in College Wrestling
Also Gabe Arnold is listed as being in the portal on WrestleStat. So does this mean that anytime a team that dismisses an athlete after the portal closes, the athlete is allowed to enter the portal anyway? I wonder how it would work if it's the athlete that unenrolls at a school - is he then transfer eligible? It's less of a wild west than last season, but I still don't understand some of these quirks -
Brooks story: True or False?
Truzzcat replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
It could be a different instance of DHEA use but on the USADA website that last instance of a DHEA ban since 2023 was posted on 6/18/2025 and it was a 4-year suspension. I feel like we would know if that was Brooks just interesting. -

Marco Tocci removed from the portal and back at UNC. -
Pretty much this. It was the rapid shift from "nothingburger" to the only 5x champ in NCAA history who is knocking on the door of senior world and Olympic teams being told to leave immediately. It warrants further discussion and logical folks are rightfully asking if there is bias. Wrestling is a sport on life support; this is an example of scenario fans are asking for deeper insight into; perhaps this is the type of media and content and journalism shift to acquiesce. Just throwing it out there.

I think a lot of Ohio State wrestling fans will be rooting for Lehigh wrestlers with him in their corner. So great to see him coaching and back home too. It was mindblowing. He knew more than anyone else what was taken away from him. Yet even before sentencing he could say that. Absolutely an incredible person.

Brooks story: True or False?
BruceyB replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
I forget the exact interview, but last year after OTT, he really came off arrogant and disrespectful, especially in regards to DT. His lack of humility and the disrespect for David Taylor rubbed many, including myself, the wrong way. When you supplant an aging legend of the sport, have some class and respect for what they accomplished, at least in the public eye. And I would say that is still a lesser offense than the one mentioned by @BigRedFan. -
Hmm. Mark Ruffalo played the investigative reporter who uncovered the catholic church scandal in Spotlight. Mark Ruffalo played wrestling legend Dave Schultz who was murdered by lunatic John DuPont in Foxcatcher. Mark Ruffalo played the lawyer who uncovered the DuPont chemical spill in Dark Waters. Maybe Mark Ruffalo is who we need to solve this situation. Or maybe we need somebody to step up who can later be portrayed by Mark Ruffalo in a movie?

I think what most people want is an honest and frank conversation about it. I respect a person’s right to having the process play out but there are areas that were glossed over such as the photo incident that Beau reported to coaches. Not touching the anonymous sources allegations is fine but if Beau is making these claims publicly with his reasoning being that nothing was done by the University, you are just perpetrating the cycle by talking about the article but ignoring parts of his story and his point about the coaches looking the entire way. You and Basch basically said you think we are all just out to make the PSU program look bad but that’s ridiculous IMO.

Estrada doesn't want to redshirt.

I bet Willie would have had him at #1

My take is option c.....it was calling it a "nothing burger". At least that's what I get from her post about your Basch show... -
My comment was a get back on track comment before yours was. I just didn’t have to announce mine while patting myself on the back like you did. Yep. ADORABLE. but sorry I’m taken.

And there’s Mr feel’’’’’S responding to something he says he avoids and doesn’t interact with. AGAIN

Brooks story: True or False?
BruceyB replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
Yeah, let's listen to what is coming out of Aaron Brooks' camp for what happened.. Last year he popped positive and the issue was later fixed. If he didn't learn how diligent he needs to be about what he puts into his body after that, then I don't feel bad for him. Second, how dumb do you have to be to take something that replenishes your hormones without asking if it's legal first? If he had low-t would he just go take some testosterone boosters because the doc said he was low? DHEA was likely the mask for whatever he was actually doing. If it wasn't then he is just an absolute moron for taking hormone boosters without checking if they were legal. He's a cheat, he's dumb, or he's a dumb cheat. If he's dumb enough to take two different "meds" in a calendar year that caused failed USADA tests, then he deserves whatever criticism he gets. I don't know of any legitimate cases of people "accidentally" failing USADA tests. That's just the default excuse. With all of the knowledge given to athletes and with what is at stake with a false test, it would be pretty tough to be that naive. -
I see the problem here.
