What happened to Russia?
Interviewed_at_Weehawken replied to Dark Energy's topic in International Wrestling
No Sad. Ex-pats outscoring them. MMA. They beat Japan with Sad. Japan looks better with Higuchi and Ono, but those two never planned to wrestle. Sad did. -
So was the Starocci thing a fluke...???

Makes sense... the PSU fans said the whole story was fishy. -
They are diluted as a lot of top Russians are wrestling for other countries.

Finishes fourth behind Japan. I know Sad wasn’t there. Is that the only difference? He would have brought more points. But let’s look … 57kg - 7th 61kg - 1st 65kg - 5th 70kg - something north of 10th 74kg - 3rd 79kg - 9th 86kg - 10th 92kg - 2nd 97kg - 8th 125kg - 9th This does not look like a result for Russia. Are other weights impacted by the Ukraine invasion complexities? Best guys can’t represent? Other story lines?

But the restrictive government isn't new. It was always restrictive and always had wrestlers under their thumb and they still were very good. Something else changed. I also don't think it's just MMA. Aside from Romero going MMA after his wrestling career, I'm not seeing a bunch of Cubans pop up in MMA. Their slide as a FS power is deeper than MMA.

I think the new guys were far better than expected. 1st time reps 61 Jax was 5th and was close to both guys who beat him 65 Woods bronze 70 Duke 1-1. Loss to a multi-champ who didn't pull him in 74 Carr 5th with 2 super close losses to top 3 guys 79 Haines silver 92 Hidlay gold 125 Hendrickson was the only real disappointment of the 1st timers I don't think any nation could send 7 first time reps and perform like we did. The depth is seriously like 10Xs what it was 20 years ago. And the number of young guys who can compete on the world stage is staggering. Combine this with us being fantastic at u17 and u20, and I don't see how you could argue against a new golden age starting up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lihledahl catch Lee in the next 2 years. It's hard to keep pushing yourself and working against a failing body when you didn't win a medal. I think Forest has plenty of frame to mature into 65. I think he's at least 50% to be the rep. I think Carr and Messenbrink are pretty even and Duke is a wildcard. If Hidlay can effectively make 86 he seems like a nightmare matchup for Zahid. I don't see anyone that close to Snyder. Who knows at 125. -

I agree. I think Snyder will be closer to what he is today in 2 years than Zahid will. Zahid is a guy who works off athleticism and he may not have peak athleticism much longer. Snyder seems like he'll be at least 95% of Snyder if he is healthy. Honestly I bet Varner could be like 80% of Varner today at 40 years old. That's just the nature of 97/125. -
Don’t think this ushers in a new golden age. Although some could argue 3 gold points to some strength. Snyder is part of the old guard and great to see him back on top

Thanks for doing that leg work. I misread something then apologized for it. Bully! I still hold that I don’t need to look for an apology until evidence is brought that I was factually wrong about a topic. Find that and I’ll gladly own up to it. But I’m not going back to look at all my posts. -

A little while ago there was a sparring video of Snyder with Akgul- he was being manhandled by Akgul. Snyder will be at a significant disadvantage at 125 let alone winning it -
Has a high school ever had a better big 3 than McCort?

I think you mean 2 Jordan brothers and a cousin. I believe Bo and Micah are the progeny of Jeff whilst Isaac and Ben are the progeny of Jim. Ben is somewhat older (class of 2008), so you must be referring to Isaac, Bo, and Micah. Bo and Micah Jordan were the only top 10 recruits on either of the teams you mentioned. St. Edwards: Heil (#13 2013), Abounader (#19 2013), Martin (#29 2012), Walz (#111 2012) St Paris Graham: Bo Jordan (#1 2013), Micah Jordan (#6 2014), Isaac Jordan (#27 2012), Taylor (#35 2012), Brascetta (#41 2011), Stephens (#63 2011), Garrison (#177 2012) - Today

Is there a reason for Snyder to go to 125kg? He looks smaller than a lot of the 97kg guys that he competes against. -

His didn’t write anything about trans people on the bullets, you fell for fake news. The claim that a family member said he was leftist originated from the governor who has been wrong on multiple aspects of this story, and the claim the lover is trans is primarily based on one anonymous source. However, this is probably the best evidence yet of him being a leftist. Seems to confirm he’s at least gay, and what he didn’t like about Kirk was “spreading hate.” Groypers used to not like Kirk, but not for spreading hate.

I was just asking. i missed the final but I saw Iranian complaining on Instagram about 1 point awarded for Snyder before the last pushout point.

The real question is what ages you faster: Hookers or blow? -
Wrestlers in Cuba are finding other ways they can make a living. They can defect and go into MMA or do other things. The government there is very restrictive and even guys like Bonne got paid very little compared to people here. Compared to other Cubans it was a good living, but the government basically had you under their thumb.

How? He could/should have been hit with a C+1 when he scooted out of bounds when Snyder had him in the "rear standing" position. And Snyder's foot was never completely out of bounds at the end there. They showed that pretty clearly during the broadcast.
