I think Ramos had a good game plan and was able to keep it close and took his shot. But I think more than structural damage to his knees, the rehab limited his ability to actually Wrestle and get his gas tank back to where it needed to be. He's had a tank like a Ford Super Duty(love seeing 48 gallons just...slowly draining my bank account and will to live)...and instead it was like a Vespa(I assume they don't take much gas). I think once he gets the later fixed, we'll see him at his best. IF that's good enough or not...I don't know. Doubt he'll be there given the limited mat time since the NCAAs. Or, maybe he needs another cleanup. Lots of scar tissue accumulates after 3 tears, so...I'm just guessing. And I'm hoping I'm right as it'd mean he's at least healthy, even if not at 100%.

I think it was because he got burned so many times. Wisconsin wrestlers did NOT do well at Wisconsin for a very long time. The guys that were ranked highly Nationally...struggled. I just don't think he thought there was a whole lot of in-state talent...and there wasn't. There's more now, but I'm trying to think, who other than Henning since Jetton has been in the finals? When was the last Wisconsin NC? Guys like Swick, Lewis, the Crass brothers...Beau Breske(who came after going to Neb). Lowney and Konrad were always going to Minnesota(Konrad especially after Lowney did). Tim Hartung was a guy who had to beg Minnesota just to walk on. He sent them letters and clippings all year and they were recruiting a kid from Iowa...until they saw him go out to Sr Nats and Hartung put one on the other kid they were recruiting. Barry gave a lot of those guys full scholarships. Others he offered, but there were academic issues...not dumb kids or terrible grades, but guys they just couldn't get in through admissions. Sucks, but what it is.

I don't know that he's rebuild the muscle that comes with the atrophy of TWO ACL surgeries, so in that sense, maybe they're not. But they should be structurally sound by now if he had two reconstructive surgeries. But, maybe not.

Nope. I do remember how I thought he should have won a 3rd title, but...he didn't. How about Dustin Schlatter? He seemed like an offensive juggernaut...majoring Espo, attacking. And then he seemed to shut it down the next 3 years. -
Was Labriola poking fun at the religious guys here?

Yup...it's funny, but the best teams I was on were the teams when we all actually got along. I played two sports that are effectively individual sports. Wrestling and Baseball(also FB, but that's obviously a team sport). Baseball is a series of individual matchups...and that's really it. Wrestling is literally just you vs another guy. You CAN have success without liking each other, but it's so much easier when you feel relaxed, like your team has your back, like you're...well, part of a team. Nebraska and Manning has that going for them now and I think they'll contend for a team trophy again. Just to play Devils advocate, I know people who have that really dry sense of humor. I have one and it's gotten me in trouble over stupid shit. My sister asking how her kid was doing and me saying, "I don't know, she was out by the pool last I checked." She couldn't walk. That didn't go over well. HER Mistake was not realizing that I wasn't a total moron and WAS a total asshole and of course I wouldn't do that. Mine was...trying to make some silly, harmless little joke(another example). I know a Wrestling Coach who's said he wanted one of his guys to say something similar. BUT, this did seem like a very genuine, sincere interaction. -
in fact quite the opposite... you wouldn't understand at all... i do have to say spencer lee's good people... great family and this is my not subtle way of saying i know them... white picket fences and manicured lawns don't mean shit to us... we embrace the suk...!
-
We'll see. What's the worst that happens? His knees should be good by this point. He's...what, 15 months out. I'd think his ego may well him to wait until he's all the way back...but hey, now we're back to expecting less from Spencer Lee. He very rarely lives "down" to those expectations.
-
Ok...so I'm your stalker because you posted a nonsensical one word reply and I asked what it meant in a thread I was already posting in and that you HADN'T been posting in recently? Yup...that tracks with LBJ logic!
-
Yeah, they were massive. Latona less so, but Deakin, Hidlay and Simnmons at 121? Joe Williams at 150 was huge as well...even if adjusted to 157. Troy Letters was also a bit bastard as well, but not like those guys.
-
Well, at least with LBJ, you never have any clue what the hell he's talking about! What's "adorable?" Is it the "poo" style of Wrestling? Do you find Spencer's facial hair adorable? While I DO applaud you figuring out what the shift button is for, what are you talking about? Are you watching puppy videos and just thought you share your feelings with us with absolutely no context? What prey tell is "adorable?"

That is GREAT to see. I really hope we see him back next year, see him back at the same level. That Nebraska team should be REALLY tough, really competitive despite some big losses(Lovett coming back). I mean, obviously more just because it'd mean he made a full recovery. Not a huge fan of the "most courageous" award here. Is that a normal Nebraska award? It just feels like it's an award that goes to a guy who say...bumps up from 157 to Wrestle the 3X NC at 184...not the #1 ranked kid in the country and an undefeated Wrestler heading into the B1G finals... But hey, who gives a shit. The kid is healthy, he's with his teammates and everything else is immaterial.
-
Bud...relax. This was literally all I said that got you going on the "well actually."
-
"Sloppy?" Maybe not the best beach bod, but he's looks anything but sloppy there. BIG back, core...looks like he's lifting for functional Wrestling strength.

Worst stallers of the last decade

IDK if you're being sarcastic, but yes. Is Nelson Brands on this list? He had 3 matches in the regular season where he DIDN'T What, is "only" beating Ethan Smith 11-5 stalling? Or Labriola 6-1? -
No...he can't. But I can change the criteria I USE on a Wrestling forum when his tie was in a exhibition and his loss was to guy who'd graduated. 26 year old Dan Gable beating 18 year Lee Kemp(if that had gone the other way) wouldn't be a loss I would count as a College loss for Kemp either. I'm not talking about the "official rules," or "scrubbing," anything. I'm applying the same standard to him as we'd apply to Wrestlers now. And you can't do that with Gable because...he didn't Wrestle varsity.
-
STILL not trying to "scrub the record," I'm trying to use how we count wins and losses today and applying it to him. Cael Sanderson isn't 178-1 because he lost his RS year, right? So I'm just using the same standard EVERYONE else(figuratively speaking, but virtually everyone) uses. There's a reason why every reference to Kemp says he was unbeaten in his final 110 matches. Take it up with the establishment!

Me too. I don't think he was thinking about insulting or joking about anything right there. To be honest...I'd laugh if I thought he was as it just gets a little tired. I also loved the handshake as well, but I think he was just saying, they get the credit. It's always possible he's got a REALLY dry sense of humor... -

I'd gladly stall my way to 2 or 3-5 National Championships...if such a thing were possible. It is of course NOT...and that should be obvious. Silly topic. It Alex Marinelli stalling or is he just not as explosive and as good at finishing at Carr/O'Toole? One guy I might argue would be Hidlay. He's talented enough to attack and he can score points if he gives up a TD, he doesn't need to be so...tactical every match. But Carter Starocci? People are applying a different set of standards to him. 3X champ, ergo, he should be teching everyone. And if he "only" wins 8-3, he stalled. -

Yup...when he wasn't pinned5 or 6 times! About as animated as I've ever seen Cael...which wasn't very animated, but he shrugged and I could see him saying "C'mon." So that's pretty much Cael losing his shit right there...in Cael standards. -
It's not a slight against Facundo...it's more about Messenbrink. I think Facundo could be an AA next year. I think Messenrbink COULD beat anyone in the weight, even if they're all back next year.
-
That makes sense. I'd say the cardio could easily have improved...it can always improve. But mentally, sure. The pressure, the rehab, all of it, I can imagine...HAD he won, it would have felt like more of a relief than the...reward or thrill that it SHOULD be. I suspect it was similar for Yianni. He wrestled far worse than normal. A healthy Gomez vs Yianni match at the NCAAs may have been interesting. A reminder, maybe we shouldn't pencil in Starocci in quite yet(or even Brooks if he moves up to 197, I think a guy like Elam could make things difficult).
-
How is it different from calling people white, black...or Asian? The most vague of all. Could be Russian, Iranian, Chinese? Moreover, how are they NOT still "lumped into one presumed homogenized entity?" You're not differentiating anything. You're just replacing Latino or Hispanic with LatinX....which EVERY Latino person I know...which includes a couple of beautiful nieces, Brother In-Law and a VERY large extended family who...seem to have very vocal opinions on LatinX. But that's anecdotal. 4% of people in the aforementioned poll don't like LatinX. Here they're actively articulating they DISLIKE the term...and find it condescending. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/many-latinos-say-latinx-offends-or-bothers-them-here-s-ncna1285916 So I'm struggling to find a reason to use it. When I see actual Latino people using it, I'll gladly(continue) to respect their wishes. Not that it makes anymore sense, but I digress.
-
They can be if we're trying to use a way to compare records. How about he had a 110 match winning streak vs College competition? @jchapman Yeah...that's amazing. 3 years earlier, getting cut from Basketball and barely .500 Then gets his ass kicked by Yagla, then comes back, gets a split decision when he was the only one to score a TD. THAT close to being considered the GOAT. Yet another reason why you can't just rank Wrestlers by AA finishes. With respect to Stieber or even Yianni(and I have a LOT of respect for them)...I'll take Kemp over either on an all-time list. He was a monster. Forced Gable back into retirement at 18 years old!
-
As I said, they described him as an "Olympic Alternate," and such a thing doesn't exist. So I don't know. So I'm not sure.
-
YES...that is HUGE. I absolutely agree. We pretty much already know who's going to be the team champs next year, the year after, and likely the next 5-6 years(at least).
