Vietnam offers 0% tariff/Cambodia Drops to 5%
scourge165 replied to JimmySpeaks's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
There's no world in which we're making sneakers or socks in the US in particular. Or even Iphones. We're not going to be selling 4K dollar Iphones. They'll take the tariffs and add them to the Iphones I guess. Perhaps the same to Nikes. You're not making Jordan's in the Rust Belt. It's jus kinda absurd. -
Jimmy, I know you're... not real bright, but...everything goes through Nvidia. They've got one of the most dominant MOATs of any company in any industry. AVGO is...diverse and has high quality asics. The companies that can't afford that or want to supplement use AMD or Qualcomm. The US is dominant as it pertains to AI. This is something that's just strange for you to be debating Jimmy. Trump, Musk, Biden, Harris, it's like...the ONE thing everyone can agree on except 'lil Jimmy. You laughed like AI was a joke when I initially said as much. "dominant in AI????????? OMG wut!" This is the most bizarre hill to die on and the one that's the easiest to quantify. I mean, you won't do it because you don't like posts that are longer than a sentence or...big words, but you could just read up on it a bit and form your own opinion. https://hai.stanford.edu/news/global-ai-power-rankings-stanford-hai-tool-ranks-36-countries-in-ai https://graniteshares.com/institutional/us/en-us/research/does-nvidia-have-a-moat/

I am. It's become a bit of a blur. I thought that was Ramos, but yes, it was Devos. -

Odd that @JimmySpeaks took issue with me saying I wanted to see our Country and our POTUS do well irrespective of my feelings about him, and didn't want to see people living out of their cars. I think that says a lot. -

I think that's a dangerous way to think. I've heard... Countless people talk about how America wasn't great anymore and how we're a...hole of fecal matter. I'd like to believe even people I think are misguided or wrong still love the Country. I also haven't seen Hamas sympathizers though, so I wouldn't know how to speak to that. -
What are YOU doing with your 401(k) right now?
scourge165 replied to Le duke's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
I went to about 50/50 cash end of Jan in my brokerage. My Roth is boring. A lot of BRK.B and index funds. I just bought another 5K shares of NVDA at 87. Meta at about 485 And then put the rest in BRK.B If this isn't NEAR the bottom... Though we may have just slit the feline's throat and tossed off the sky scraper. -

So went from +4% to +3% to -1.43? That's a big 3 days of trading. And your gains are your investment. That's the whole point. It's your protection vs inflation. -
I'd never seen anything but people trashing the VA. My Uncle loves his. He's been in AZ, Minnesota...FL...lots of places, but primarily he goes to an AZ and Minnesota VA now. He's also a happy stoner who is 82 and I've never seen him complain about his Drs. But he really loves the ones he's been to.

Well...for starters, stop LYING about the tariffs other Countries are putting on us. We're talking about exceptionally low numbers. China, 2.5% The US 1.7% Trump...put 54% and China responded with 34%. Also, don't claim we were a wealthier country back when tariffs were our main source of income. We're many TIMES wealthier today in GDP per capita than were were 100-150 years ago. But Trump thinks costing the US trillion is worth not having to pay 50B dollars over 10 years to service the debt. The solution is to learn from US History. Tariffs DO-NOT-WORK.

The only place I'd push back is...I don't know if they did have the votes. Just for starters you had...Nelson, I believe he made his money in Insurance. I also think calling Obama a complete failure is...inaccurate. In any event, Obama did not include the public option in the final bill and it passed...strictly along party lines, 60/40,(well, 60-39, 1 abstained, likely a protest vote, but I don't recall). 2-You can absolutely buy private insurance and many already do. It's baffling to me how we can go through THIS economic crash...but it'd be too damaging to the economy to raise taxes a little bit and provide healthcare? You can wipe away 20% of people's retirement funds, but...gee, better not raise taxes 1-2% so you can ensure every American is insured? We spend SO much more than every other Country. And the waiting times and standard of care...it's worse if Venezuala is your barometer. Not sure why we always use 3rd world countries for our examples though. How about the rest of the first world? But hey, we'll not make certain people lose their 401K and they can't afford their insurance. You may think Obama was a failure, but...contrast him with Obama and...he looks like the best of Washington, Jefferson, Eisenhower, FDR and Clinton.

scourge165 replied to JimmySpeaks's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Yes...hopefully...for as much as I have disdain for the Man, I don't want to see people losing their homes, their jobs. I'd GENUINELY rather not see waiting lists for my rental properties while people live in their cars, even with big MAGA stickers. Or people having to go back to work at 70. I do not like POTUS, I love this Country and don't want to see it put through hell. -

Jesus Christ Jimmy...you REALLY think the OTHER Country pays import taxes? That is just...staggeringly stupid. But, lets operate under that premise. Then we're paying on ALL the Countries putting tariffs on us then, right? -

AI Steelman Smoot-Hawley Impact on the Depression

Oh...was it? You do realize I'm not the one who is asking ChatGTP or...whatever. This isn't my thread. Keep arguing how..."negligible" Smoot-Hawley was though. -
This would work better if you responded PRIOR to me posting the Secretary of Commerce saying the same thing that...'lil Jimmy.
-
Well...we rectified that now, haven't we? I really hated the GDP growth, inflation finally coming down after Covid and the bull markets as the US was leading the world in innovation once again with AI and the GPUs. It's funny, all the "Kaepernick hates America" people...they sure don't seem to think highly of America, do they?

He was amazing in all Wrestling! I THOUGHT it was Ramos(Iowa) who spent 7th and 8th grade in Minnesota to Wrestle. He bumped up to 112 as a Soph an still won it. I remember talking to the AV coach about him and asked 'how did he lose,' and they said..."we asked ourselves the same thing." -

You mean the tariffs where the US gave huge loans to Europe in order to buy from American agriculture which led to the league of Nations meeting, the over-production of agriculture and eventually to what Hoover asked for? Targeted tariffs to protect agriculture? And after saying Smoot-Hawley had a "negligible" effect on the crash and depression, I honestly don't know if you're serious in asking who "AI Steelman" is? -

The entire economy is built on the psychological. As much then as it is now. At LEAST then you could exchange that dollar for Gold. Now, Fiat currency. That dollar has value for ONE reason. We agree and believe it does. -The run on the banks. That was psychological. By open tomorrow, we're going to be down ~20% in 3 days trading days. That's taking us back to 2021 levels and it has not been ONE WEEK since he has announced the tariffs. Not a single week. What causes the quakes? -

Yes, I understand it still had to go through the Senate and then Hoover had to sign it with...over 1000 economists pleading with him not to, but when you indicate you're going to start a trade war...that starts uncertainty. This also comes just...maybe 2 years after the League of Nations(which famously we pushed to create under Wilson and then never joined) met specifically on the topic of tariffs and free trade...which we'd been working toward through the 1920s. Those are the big ones...and China is actually 54%. Collectively tariffs are SET to be higher now than they were at anytime since the the teens...maybe 1920 at just under 25% on all imports coming into the Country. Japan, South Korea, we're hitting EVERYONE(but Russia). Taiwan got 32%...though they exempted semiconductors for now, though they've said those are coming(among other industry). That's the industry that had thrived the most and is arguably the most important to the future Economy. No, that tracks with the actual signing just as we haven't seen an IMMEDIATE jump in unemployment in (and they didn't keep track of unemployment prior to the crash, it's more of an approximation by the BLS). But I'm not saying it "tracks with May of 1929." I'm saying from the time they end up signing it. They mostly used the participation rate, but...sure. In EVERY example I've spoken about the tariffs, I've pointed THIS sequence of events; 1-US Congress passes Tariffs 2-Markets tank 3-Hoover signs Smoot-Hawley into Law 4-There's a MASSIVE spike in unemployment and we're in the throes of a recession that would BECOME the great depression within a 18 months. Go from Low to SUPER low unemployment, that sequence has not changed. That IS how it played out. That's OBVIOUSLY not the full totality of it, but people have already complained about my "essays." And I've gone through this...several times. Catalyst-Tarrifs That sets off the market, that resets a decade of growing global commerce and lowering tariffs moving toward free trade, that leads to a run on the banks and everything else. Right. Which is why when I've pointed out unemployment, AGAIN, I've used from when Hoover signed it....every time. Yes. From the time Hoover actually signed it. Going back to what I believe was the catalyst. I also believe we were at over 7B in exports and it dropped about 65% over the next 3 years.
