I read all the comments. "Being a Jerk" is pretty ambiguous and you're suggesting you should penalize a kid for a leg cradle, correct? I think the 3rd question was hyperbole for effect, not literally should we penalize a double leg. I'll just disagree with the ranting and raving, but...to be clear, are you saying if you see a leg cradle, you're hitting a kid with an unsportsmanlike?

Yeah, Lee's current situation makes me lean toward Fix or RBY. He's not in shape(not in HIS usual type of shape) and these guys are too difficult to score on. Lee is on the precipice of being another 4X Champ...maybe 3X Hodge award winner. As others have said, there's no incentive in him doing so. If he was healthy, if he was in shape and full go, he seems like the type of kid who'd be up to the challenge. It's just rare. I can't remember a stud moving up in a long time. Askren vs Kish is the last I can recall. I guess that's similar. Kish took a 3rd and was a 2X runner up, but Askren was fresh and healthy. And it was still a much lower scoring match than Askren had with anyone that season.

I think a Leg Cradle is just being a douche. There are VERY rare examples. But I agree with this 100%. Brent Metcalf wouldn't have made it through a match! Could you add more. I'm not sure what you disagree with here. Are you suggesting he's misinterpreting your words? Because he's right...and there are plenty of refs who needs to make themselves the center of attention. Not the good ones, but if you're calling a unsportsmanlike on a leg cradle just because you don't approve, I would say that's not doing a great job.

I don't follow. Do all the B1G teams have those sports? There's long been a myth that it was part of the B1G Charter that you had to have a Wrestling program. I believe now you have to have every sport, BUT two. A maximum of #2 sports you don't offer the rest of the B1G does. But even that's something that I've never seen in writing, it's just passed around like fact. It DOES really feel like the B1G should have Wrestling. It'd be like the SEC dropping Football or Big East dropping Basketball. You REALLY could free up a whole lot of room by lowering the # of scholarships in Football. Just drop it to 80 and that'd make a world of difference. But...no reason to pluck the feathers of the Golden Goose.

It's been estimated that it would cost a power 5 ~20M to add a Wrestling Program. Stanford didn't have the start-up costs...and there's no way that'd be the price to put together Juco's in Texas. But I know there have been a few programs cut DESPITE people coming in and offering to fund it. I believe Marquette was one, but there have been others.

I was merely being hyperbolic(see the 9 Olympics with Kolat). Not denying Karelin's supremacy or how incredible he was. This whole thing is...just mindlessly ridiculous. The whole, "real wrestling," vs Folkstyle/Freestyle or Women's wrestling. Just pointing out the myth that the "hadn't given up a point in 10 years," and or lost in 15 as is exaggerated. He's been mythologized a bit. The Greatest ever in his discipline, but he didn't go a decade without giving up points or however many years without losing. I don't know when the other was, but yes, I heard Jim Gruenwald and another Greco World Team Member(Ethan...something) joking about it at Ben Peterson's "Camp of Champs." It was effectively just as great as he was, his record had been exaggerated a bit.

LOL...he does seem like a likeable kid off the mat. But just as far as viewing, I get why people may not love his style. It's TD and then turns people like a key. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing. Now I was a huge Andrew Howe fan...so aesthetics mean shit in Wrestling, but if you're talking about guys you like from other teams...I get liking a guy who gets into more scrambles, goes for the throws, big moves rather than just...TD, turn, turn, turn, turn...with one of those turns being a pin. That said, still calling Glory for Glory.

Not that I know of, but you never heard about that until the end of the year. And to be clear, I'm getting my information from someone at the RTC and they don't know for certain. I hope I'm right...but I hope that about literally everyone. As much as I may not be a fan of certain programs, who doesn't want to see...Spencer Lee healthy(other than about 31 other 125LB Wrestlers! I'm leaving Glory out

Hey, I just made Tacos myself! Not lengua...not sure exactly what those are, but they were pretty damn good. Yup...that's the term I couldn't recall. Emerging sport. I think about 99% of the fans at the D1s last year were 100% behind it...and then there was 1% who were probably putting melted cheese into plastic plates for the people watching.
-
He's said he could go last night, but he's trying to make sure he's 100% for March. I'm skeptical he'll have the gas tank. That's just ALWAYS an issue when you're talking about a guy who is missing chunks of time with injury, but it sounds like he's going to be fine.

Sorry, I was referring to Division 1. They made Women's Wrestling a...can't remember the term for it(developing sport was effectively what it meant IIRC), but it basically gave them 10 years to reach 40 programs(the # required for an official Championship). That was just last year, so 7...looks like a good start.

Ignore the little man here. He feels like he needs to be a part of every discussion involving Greco on the board as he has watched lots of it.

I think it was a Bulgarian that I can no longer recall. But yeah, he lost in the '99(I thought '98 World Championships, but I'll go with you) and then like EVERY match back then, the Russians paid some cash and appealed it(whatever the fee was). Cary Kolat had about 9 Olympics stolen from him through that nonsense. They kept changing the rules based entirely on how badly he got screwed. He also lost another match...but the thing is with Karelin, a LOT of what is written down about him in Google, these mythical standards...they came from Rulon's coach gassing him up(not that he needed much, he WAS an animal). And then just nobody cared enough to fact check it.

What top wrestlers left eligibility on the table?.

I agree with them. Gross got screwed...Rivera. So many guys. Gross because I think people diminish his one title as a bit of a fluke. But it's hard to point out 3 guys who got it worse than those 3. They all deserved better. I...it's not worth rehashing it, but the choice to give the guys who didn't lose anything an extra year and not those who lost their senior seasons was baffling. -

Micic is the Ron Weaver of NCAA Wrestling. He's gonna show up in a few years at a small school starting his 5 years over again! -

Well...that would certainly make sense. He was an incredible technician. -
40 months where you can't compete...then after that, even if you have full time health, you've got a baby and you need to "rehab" your body to get back in shape. If you want a family, it's a MASSIVE hurdle for Women to overcome. Serena Williams got a lot of shit for saying "it's not fair," and that if she "was a man she wouldn't have to choose between her career and family," and...while that annoyed people as it's hard to convey tone in print if you're not a writer, she's right. It's not. It sucks. Kinda unavoidable. But it's amazing to watch the sport grow. I just went to watch Sectionals and...not having had children yet or a Daughter, I admit I forgot about the Girls. Got there and there was a pretty sizeable contingent, and I was impressed. Obviously some beginners, but there the level of Wrestling is just jumping each year. It's kinda sad how many sorta fringe Wrestling fans will shit on Women's Wrestling, but the real fans get it and appreciate Women's athletics... You seem to be more plugged in. What are the chances of getting to 40 teams in 10 years? Also, can we make sure Penn ISN'T one of those 40?

Al Gore invented the internet? Yes, nothing says "I won" more than bringing up that timely reference that's not at all unrelated to the subject at hand! I'm not sure how I took the L here by telling you I DIDN'T care about Greco any longer...and then you posting about who you apparently think is the sexiest Greco Wrestler, but sure. It's an L. Seriously though...it's great your proud of your kids. I mean, I personally probably wouldn't run my mouth about "real Wrestling," if I was wee-man and never actually Wrestled...but hey, you do you..."boo."

Huh...I gotta get TF off Twitter. I'm finding out about things that...I don't need to know about and that's crossing over into other area's. Sometimes I guess a zoo...is just a zoo!
-
Yup. Sit down, drink my smoothie and see what's going on. Usually starting by checking the three notifications I've got from you about what Greco Wrestler you think looks the best. Laugh, mock...then when I feel like it, go for the workout. Unless I'm running behind...then I just wait for your asshattery until it's more convenient.

I'm pretty sure he's saying this in response to the A in AWA saying Wrestler's don't get better under Bono after Hamiti lost to Carr earlier this year 7-5. So you kinda need that context otherwise it comes off...no offense Ivan, but kinda(totally) ridiculous.
