I'm not sure how you once again made this about your kids, but...no, I don't take pride in the accomplishments of kids that I don't know. I get your need to live vicariously through them and somehow inject them into every topic, but I'm almost completely indifferent. Now, because I know you you can't rest and you may get the shakes if you don't get the last word....in this thread about a young man choosing to attempt to become a Navy Seal rather than Wrestle in College, I am done now and you can re-use another Gif that you find super clever. I hope things improve for you bud! I'm rooting for ya!

Dake definitely kinda slid under the radar. He won it, but I don't think many people expected him to come back and win it again...and certainly not 3 more times. It didn't really hit me until his Soph year and the way he just dominated that field. IIRC, he gave up 1 point to Molinaro in the finals and that was it. In retrospect, I think he could have opened up more, but he was so dominant on top....it was just truly impressive. And I don't like watching a guy ride someone out for...what, 6 minutes, but it was impossible to not respect it.
-
LOL...and we need people like you!
-
Imar was just a physically dominant Wrestler He was SO strong, it's almost like it did him a disservice. He never really adjusted because...he had ONE loss through two years to some guy named Nolf, and nobody really heard much about him after that! Another all-time great match. If Nolf wins this match, he MAY be considered the 2nd greatest College Wrestler of all time? But that last TD was slick and just Imar at his best. He was a problem when he jacked up that underhook.
-
You thought that? Because a Gif said it? You...you really take them all literal? That explains a lot. The rest is the usual incoherent nonsense. "Other things in life?" Are you saying there's more to life than Wrestling? Is that the "wisdom" you're imparting here? Wonderful. Where would we be without these gems you had out for free!

Potential Rule Changes Vote sent to coaches
scourge165 replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
No, I'm more than happy with the way the rules are now. But when you ask my opinion on a set of rule changes...I'll give it. Sometimes it's pointless and silly. Like the facial hair(what was the rule for that one to begin with? It may irritate or hurt a Wrestlers skin? LOL...c'mon! Look at the amount of interest there is in College Wrestling. One part of that is because...while the rules have changed, they don't make these wide sweeping changes like they did in Freestyle and Greco for years. People had trouble keeping up. The most famous match was decided over adjusting your grip. I like the product now. Small changes. When Oliver lost to Stieber because he didn't get his head out but had both legs...sure, change the rule there. Those are tweaks. This would fundamentally change College Wrestling. So I really hope they don't start with the step out. And for people who say the stalling is called inconsistently, the step out isn't exactly without it's flaws. Guys drop to their knees and half the time they call them grounded, half the time they call it. Either way, I don't want to see Folkstyle muddied with that. I think it'll lower the caliber of Wrestling. It's hard to finish a single against someone like...say David Carr. I don't want to see a point because you just walk him off the mat. -
This is like the 9th time you've used this Gif... LOL...it's hard to take a 'lil guy who never wrestled seriously when talking about burnout(or real Wrestling for that matter). And I promise you, there's not a Wrestler for whom things turned out how they had planned other than...maybe Cael(though even he had losses). It changes when you're actually the one on the mat, not the one talking about your boys there bud. It's also possible to understand burnout...without actually having dealt with it. I never said I burned out.
-
LOL...are they? Because I know of elite Wrestlers who got burned out, but a Wrestling Dad says it's not a real thing? Hey, I'm pulling for ya bud! Hope you turn it around...
-
Well, that's both awesome...and sucks...you are an Illini fan, right? Imar looked unbeatable...then a Freshmen comes along...until HE gets beat.
-
Imar was on his way to becoming a 4X champ at that point. Joseph's potential legacy took a MASSIVE hit with the loss of that 2020 season. He had a chance to be a 1/1/2/1 and in the discussion for all-time greats. But...it was a helluva match. And I can hate Byers at times(just as I can strongly dislike anyone who's such a homer and calling games against my team) I do respect the passion he brings! That dude is a fun listen...as long as you don't have a dog in the fight.
-
Controversial ending...kinda. It did appear to be a TD to me. But it's more the way they wait to call it until after Gable goes nuts.
-
That seems disconcerting. 93 pct failure rate, punching and kicking recruits. Clearly it's got to weed out the weak, but the guys who fail out would seem to still be among the elite and seemingly could be put to work doing...something more. This makes it sounds like they just kinda discard them, tying them up with menial tasks until their time is up. It's certainly a big risk for Nate. Hope he makes it.
-
It obviously does deeper than that. You put 15 years into something, it's more than just cutting. And winning is fun, the training...not fun. Baseball practice is "fun." Football practice is fun(or can be). I'm sure Basketball practice is fun(we used to play to warm up before 2-a-days before the season and over break. There are the crazy parents who are over the top and start their kids too young and go too intense(I think this is why Askren talks about not starting kids until their in 5th or 6th grades). There are nagging injuries you don't get fixed because Wrestling is year-round. Burnout is most definitely a thing.

Of course it is...

Potential Rule Changes Vote sent to coaches

1-Fine, you don't need to require it during College Wresteling I guess. It just seems stupid. I just saw a thread on Reddit from a JHS Wrestler asking how to get Cauliflower. He's been Wrestling for a couple years, he doesn't wear headgear and...he does something else to try and get it. See how much he'll like it when you've gotta start draining that shit at home and the it gets thicker and thicker and you need to get it pealed and cleaned and then you're Wrestling with cotton stitched into your ear(I may be just old...IDK if that's still what they do, but it hurt like a bitch). I'd probably advocate for keeping headgear just because it's such a minor thing and I think it's more likely to influence kids to not wear headgear and they'll regret it(not that this is a great reason for that rule). 2-I like that. I think it'll result in some guys who get legitimately hurt, but it's being used WAAAY too much to avoid matches for seeding. If for nothing else, it doesn't have to go on your official record, but count it as a loss for seeding(at the VERY least). 3-Why are we diminishing the importance of Wrestling back for team points? Not a fan of that at all. This is what keeps guys invested after heartbreaking losses(usually). 4-Sure. I'm not sure how much of a difference that's going to make, but yes. This one makes complete sense. 5-NO-NO-NO-NO. This is going to drastically change the style of Wrestling, the TDs on the edge. It's just a silly idea IMO. This isn't Freestyle and I don't like it in Freestyle. Finish the shot. It's also already muddied given the grounded rules...just not a fan of this in any way at the College level in particular. -

Blocking and pushing is in fact stalling. I hate watching that. It's...I don't wanna pick on Iowa, but it's Brands/Marinelli too much. Some of the best, most exciting, tournament changing Wrestling happens on the edge. Please do NOT add a pushout. -
But it's NOT March 30th 2010, it's 2023, I know what Dake accomplished and I can do that...I did do that. And if YOU believe that Lee's the best 125 of all time, then...put him on your list I won't nit-pick it by pointing out that he'd lost 3 times each of the two prior seasons. Lee was dominant. You're approaching this as though it has some gravity and it does not. It's just a list...again, of the 10 best Wrestlers and we're trying to fill them into one lineup.
-
And this one just came in...an INCREDIBLE scramble at the end of this match... (Both the Nate Carr vs Kenny Monday Matches as well).
-
Yup...I didn't have the appropriate amount of respect for Lewis until I got a little more background and went back and watched him. I just got a good recommendation(actually a few more). HWT-Jon Lewellyn vs Kurt Angle Stopped Angle from winning that 3rd title(a magic # for HWTs it seems).
-
This was a great one also. Mcllravy only had one finals match that wasn't a barnburner.
-
No....I have no watched them roll. I HAVE watched Amine wrestle OTHER '65 and I think he's a big '65 and could move up quite easily.
-
LOL...where'd I say this? No, I'm saying NATIONAL Title trumps losing a match in your conference. Never said anything about Freshmen Dake vs Sr Stieber. I think I've been pretty clear about my position. And why am I bringing Brooks into this? To try and articulate the absurdity of making the argument that if you lose a match within your conference, but then win the NATIONAL TITLE, saying you "weren't even the best in your conference," is pretty silly and nonsensical. There's no "hill to die on," here bud. This is a SUBJECTIVE discussion about what people believe is the best lineup ever. It's really not much deeper than that. Same thing as I said yesterday in this thread. So that be Dake for me. Again, this isn't Culps Hill, it ain't that important, and nobody is dying. Just making poorly thought out arguments.
-
This is crazy, when the topic of best Wrestlers of All-Time was brought up, I called an old coach who watched all these guys and we ended up bullshitting for about an hour...and then sent me a bunch of matches. This was one of them, Randy Lewis vs John Smith was another. Shultz. I got a lot of background on these guys I didn't know...
-
Yup, Troy I think dropped down to fit Mcllravy in and had to go into a bracket with Kolat and TJ Jaworski(a loaded bracket, but he was still the #1 seed).
-
Just watched that one. ONE of Mcllravy's matches has to be in there. The 16-15 NCAA Win as a True Freshmen in 1993, or the OT win vs Bono with an incredible scramble in 1997. Both great matches. Edit-Sorry...little late, but...great minds minds and all that.
