  1. Yep, he is still coaching. His frustration with wrestlers who are not as dedicated and driven as himself is evident in many matches. He gets good wrestlers but is not getting hte most from them. It is time for a new coach. Hope he goes into announcing/analyzing as he did during the Olympic Games. Such knowledge - it was a pleasure to hear him with his insight and coaching suggesions while the matches were on. Whatever he chooses or is pushed on him he is still one of the greatest wrestlers the US has ever seen. Six times in a row he won it all. First International title was while he was still in College. A good coach but he looks as if he is tired of the grind.
  2. Can't we just watch wrestling, get analysis & commentary? So many obnoxious commercials - as bad as the Super Bowl. Nope, I don't watch it because of all the commercials. Just give us Wrestling.
  3. Doubtful he left. He will man up and show up at the medal presentation. He fought the good fight and lost. Hope he takes it like Gable and Karelin when they did not finish #1.
  4. Watching RBY struggle on bottom is painful. Seeing Parris has one worrying about Kerkvliet in the match. Game plan all you want. RBY is not looking dominant and struggles like a HS Frosh on bottom. Wrestling a long bodied tough opponent who can step over to counter a whizzer may be the death of him. Parris has the athleticism & drive to win at Heavyweight even with Cael & Co's game planning. Don't see it as Cassar vs Steveson. See it as Parris taking it to him. Kerk does not seem to like agressive opponents. Penn State might end up with two Champions this time if Haines can't counter the buzz saw he faces. Doubt that last minute heroics will be his saving move this time.
  5. Tough as nails. But - how many NCAA Titles? You don't get to Great without titles.
  6. Even if there is no working involved - he is just let go? Then again, maybe it is fair as the top guy can't maintain control and chooses to wrestle on his feet. Still think extended riding should be called stalling if the top man is not working to pin the opponent.
  7. Re-watch the match. See if you can pick up on leg problems early in the match. Watching it as it happened it appeared to me he was having problems with both legs. Knee or whatever, he did not have the drive with then as usual. No surprise he is too hurt to wrestle today.
  8. We have watched him battle through injury for a long time now. Go back and watch the match again. Pay attention to how he is moving early and see if you don't pick up on knee/leg problems. Saw it during the match, it was troubling. Both legs, not normal movement and driving off them. Maybe he still would have lost with healthy knees, but props to Ramos for going after it and the win. "excuses are for wusses" - I don't think we will hear them from Spencer Lee. He is a tough competitor and a class act.
  9. In watching the Spencer Lee match I saw something early that was troubling. Go back and watch his movements early in the match. Sure looked like knee/leg problems as he was not moving like he usually does. Saw it in the match and had to go back and re-watch a few times. Having knee problems. Saw him moving as if his were bothering him. Not limping, but favoring them and not pushing hard. Some flurries but he did not have the normal drive we have seen. "excuses are for wusses" - and I don't expect he will be making excuses. No surprise he will Medical Forfeit out of the final day. He is very good. Sad to see injury take him out of the race. Even when not 100% he was better than most. Hope he heals OK and moves forward with whatever gives him the best pose Collegiate career - on or off the mat. Was great watching him these past years.
  10. Riding without working towards a pin is stalling, plain and simple. A wrestler who is just holding the opponen down without trying to turn them should be called for stalling. We see way too many content to ride and the refs don't nail them for it.
  11. ASU - a big change considering how they were seen at the first of the year.
  12. How would you ensure parity? Tell some kids they can't go to the school/coach they want? Would never work. Some kids will choose a specific school or program even if they know they will sit on the bench behind a Kyle Dake, Cael Sanderson or such.
  13. If you have one who served a church missionary tour for two years and then a hitch in the military they could come in at 24-25 years old as a True Freshman. Even if they wrestled a ton of tournaments while in the service, maybe even on a service team.
  14. Is this a test run for the Tom Brands model?
  15. He would most likely be as successful again. He was a force of nature and got his wrestlers to buy into the reality that they were Champions - and they went out and proved it. Cael is the same - just different methods. Both are great leaders who get their kids to push for excellence even if some don't quite get there on the mat.
  16. Watched Spencer in the first match back. If that is "looking great" your Cinnebons are buffalo chips or cow pies. He should do great but is way out of shape for now. Against one of the top half dozen he probably would have lost, maybe passed out from lack of oxygen.
