  1. I literally said Zain was more proven than Metcalf! This was in response to someone else's post. How did Yianni get into this? LOL No crap! They both have medals! Clearly more accomplished. But why harp on the juniors thing? Who cares? The guy wrestled in a senior event and lost. Still a loss.
  2. Bro... I was literally giving Zain a compliment in saying that he is savvier than Metcalf was. Someone else compared him to Metcalf, and I was saying that Zain is better... had more savvy. I did mention that he managed to beat Sidakov who is one of the savvier Russians going. He hadn't achieved his greatness yet, but he was still pretty darned good, winning two of the world's toughest tourneys a year later. You see any perceived slight against any PSU/NLWC wrestler and you immediately need to come to the rescue. Why is that?
  3. Sidakov won Russian Nationals and Yarygin in 2016. (and the point was that neither Dake nor Burroughs was making 65 kg in good enough shape to beat Sidakov in 2015)
  4. Where did I say that? You imply that Mesenbrink's win over Lockett doesn't count. Wins over junior eligible competitors don't count in the pinnacle-verse. Do wins by junior eligible competitor's count? Did Mirasola not actually take Brooks down? Not in the Pinnacle-verse! News flash: If they take the line in a senior event... it counts. Also: Dake and Burroughs were not beating junior Sidakov at 65kg in 2015. Sorry. Why are some of these spoiled PSU/NLWC fans so sensitive?
  5. Metcalf beat Sidakov 5-1 in 2015. The next year, Sidakov won Yarygin and Russian nationals. Sidakov may have been a junior, but who knows how old he actually was? He toed the line vs. Metcalf and doesn't need your excuses. Regardless, he was on the cusp of greatness, and that was his only loss vs the US.
  6. Getting wrongfully let go to make room for Seth Gross?
  7. He did his sprints with the DB groups while in college.
  8. A logjam of Ferraris.
  9. Zain- more proven than Metcalf (although Metcalf has the win over Sidakov, the savviest of all Russians) Brooks will have a tough go vs. the Yaz we just saw. Snyder will be fortunate to get a bronze if some approximations of 2022 Saduleev and 2023 Taz show up. Spencer- I'm hoping! Parris- The finals is a very real possibility. Once he's there, does he have Zare's kryptonite? I certainly see a bronze for him. Dake- I can't see more than silver based on the recent past. Maybe bronze depending on how stuff lines up. But I am hoping for six golds and plan on watching every match!
  10. And the underhook ability. Nothing like learning from a club coach.
  11. No, that's Gabe.
  12. Neal and Haselrig couldn't cut it on defense; both moved to offense where they were great. I don't think Steveson will have this option.
  13. I think it is ok now, or certainly not penalized.
  14. This was when Lee had zero ACLs. The next year it was Cardinale with the bad knee. He wrestled extremely tough, but didn't taunt anyone that year.
  15. Not a problem! Made for a bit of research for me, which I enjoy doing. Ruth seems a bit of an enigma, too. I've seen him him listed as a coach for the Illini on this board in recent months, but from my understanding, he has been living in the Balkans with his wife for some time now.
  16. 1-0 but hasn't fought in ten months.
  17. I don't think he is active? I thought he retired after a career where he did not meet expectations that many had for him. (8-3, two straight losses, hasn't fought in almost four years. Listed as retired.)
  18. Valencia might need CPR after a match with Yazdani. I would hope they had an AED ready. I'm not sure about "iranian looking" or why, if true, that would matter?
  19. Yes. The Pack celebrating the win is shown during every men's college basketball game in March for the last 40 years.
  20. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Thursday approved making all takedowns in wrestling worth 3 points, effective with the 2023-24 season. Members of the Wrestling Rules Committee, which proposed the change, agreed that increasing the scoring for takedowns by an additional point will enhance the sport by rewarding offensive actions and risk-taking. The committee also agreed there was a need to create a more appropriate point differential between takedowns and escapes and incentivize offense when competitors are in the neutral position. Eliminating the hand-touch takedown also was approved by the panel. Rules committee members think demonstrating control is an important component of college wrestling, so it made sense to eliminate the hand-touch takedown in favor of a single requirement for all takedowns. To help balance the new takedown scoring rule, there also are new requirements for the top wrestler to work toward a near fall or pin. A 3-point near-fall scoring component was added. Previously, officials could award 2 or 4 points for near falls. The rationale for the rule change includes giving wrestlers a chance to be more creative in attempting to earn points. Video review Panel members also approved a change to the coach's video review request. The rule change provides the referee with the authority to confirm or overturn all calls or missed calls during a video review challenged sequence. For coach's challenges, the sequence is described as the time from the alleged error until the match is, or should have been, stopped by the referee. Other rule changes The first medical forfeit of a tournament will count as a loss on the wrestler's record. An exception will be if the medical forfeit occurs immediately after an injury default in a tournament. The penalty for a delayed coach's video review challenge request will be changed to a loss of the video review. Previously, it was a control-of-mat violation and 1-point deduction from the team total. Any true placement matches conducted in an event will not alter the final team score. Officials can let action continue after penalizing an illegal hold and not require a stoppage after imminent scoring finishes when the safety of wrestlers is not in danger. The current mandatory five-second count for the waist and ankle ride will be expanded to include all situations in which the top wrestler grasps the bottom wrestler's ankle. Weigh-in times across all competition types will be standardized to two hours or sooner before the start of competition. Previously, tournament weigh-ins were two hours or sooner, but dual meet weigh-ins were permitted only one hour or sooner before the start of competition. Weight certification for all schools will be permitted to start Sept. 1. The rule limiting facial hair to no longer than half an inch has been eliminated.
