  1. Interesting to note. When Messenbrink defeated Levi Haines, LeDuke insisted it was luck. Haines was tired from the tournament and Messenbrink's skills wouldn't translate to folkstyle. In fact, he only won because he scored in freestyle positions. A claim was made that Messenbrink would never perform as well or better than Haines throughout their college careers. This was a claim that even TBar wouldn't agree to. Now that he is a Nit, he's the next four-timer.
  2. Yes, I do. For instance, I don't think that David Taylor would be able to beat Stevan Micic at 57 kg.
  3. Imagine the hellfire LeDuke would bring down upon someone who suggested that Rakhim Magamadov was the world champ at 86 kg!
  4. LOL this absurd. I read this and asked myself "wait... Sidakov is wrestling 157 in NCAA this year?"
  5. One weigh-in wouldn't bother me too too much. However it seems that you are one of the few matside guys that doesn't think there should be a weigh-in every round. This includes some of the Flo Bros who think a kid should be weighing in 2-6x per day!
  6. lol I can see some coaches losing their minds over this!
  7. Yes, Woods finished his degree and McKenna did not need to. McKenna has very strong connections that were going to likely hire him to a fantastic job. I also think tOSU had a major that was more specific to his chosen field.
  8. So imagine my state uses the following NFHS suggested weights: 108 lbs., 116 lbs., 124 lbs., 131 lbs., 138 lbs., 145 lbs., 152 lbs., 160 lbs., 170 lbs., 190 lbs., 215 lbs., 285 lbs. If we are following this advice: If I weigh 168,169, or 170, then I should go up to 190?
  9. Well, tough to transfer into Stanford from Cornell (or anywhere), though some guys did flip commitments. Not exactly a Nostradamus level prediction. Also, transferring from Stanford to UNC isn't something you would expect an academically minded student to do, despite UNC being known as a very good school.
  10. If you are "learning to come in a few pounds under," it is not your natural weight.
  11. Thanks. Still very much against the "spirit of the rule" for "growth allowance." More like "shrink allowance."
  12. And I assume the entire weight class is on the same mat using the same scale?
  13. I feel as if cricket is the #2 most popular sport on earth or thereabouts. Lax has had a world championship for a long time, generally held every four years. It is a super popular sport in Canada, which has birthed some of the sport's greatest stars. Dozens of nations have participated in worlds, but USA wins almost every year and only five nations have ever medaled (USA, Canada, Australia, England, and the Haudenosaunee Nationals). I agree with your argument about "ultimate achievements" but that cuts out basketball, soccer, and probably a bunch more. The IOC doesn't want to do that.
  14. I'm not a fan, but this is way better than doing it every round.
  15. I was talking to some CT wrestlers down in NC, and they were saying that they use the "growth allowance" to drop to a lower weight!
  16. China still doing it and adding Hong Kong and Taiwan to their medal totals!
  17. Parent volunteers. I'm sure they are all CORIed and can be counted on for absolute fairness!
  18. No, really. Who do you suggest weigh in the individuals? That is a minimum of six more volunteers or officials for most tournaments. For that matter, where are we getting six scales? How do we know they are all calibrated the same? If someone misses on a scale on mat 1, do they get to try on mat 2-6 scales?
  19. Which states allow such barbaric weigh-in practices as mentioned in the first paragraph? And there would be no need to add weight for shoes. Kids weigh what they weigh. I remember coaches saying we should add weight for underwear and later singlets when they were first required. It worked out fine.
  20. Who is weighing the athletes in while they are on deck?
  21. 1) The purpose of matside weigh-ins would be largely to keep the athlete at their natural weight. If wrestlers are allowed to gain 5 or more lbs. during a tournament, how is this the case? 2) Carrying ankle bands solves nothing. Kids would lose these, or foregt to take them off for weigh-ins or whatever. It would cause more time delays. 3) How would kids potentially missing weight decrease forfeits?
  22. If you're having allowances for subsequent rounds, then why bother having matside weigh-ins?
