I honestly do believe Bassett’s decommittment wasn’t about money. It seems like it was more about simply not letting him train at the RTC. The judge was skeptical of the testimony being hearsay or “double hearsay” from criminals (including the guy listed above) that stand to gain something from their testimony. There was like 4 pages devoted to the government playing word games with the word “involved.” There was a suggestion from the defense that a piece of evidence could have been fabricated. The judge also questioned the evidence about Abrego Garcia being MS-13. And was sure to point out that the charges were NOT human trafficking.
