  1. And clearly the announcers don’t understand how scoring works either…
  2. Here is the BTN video. Sequence is at about 33:15. It’s awfully close, and then there’s a second or 2 where the video isn’t at a good angle. But I think 9/10 refs aren’t going to make that call unless it’s super obvious. DeAugustino did seem to realize his position and was rolling around. Side note, but Illinois really screwed up by choosing bottom in the 3rd there, unless they didn’t care about the dual result and just wanted Renteria to get exposure to trying to get out from DeAugustino. It had been 5 minutes and DeAugustino couldn’t take him down, and you know he’s pretty tough on top (and probably the biggest 125 other than Glory). Then the final mistake was Renteria trying to go upper body in the last 30 seconds (edit: although I guess that was because he was trying to win the individual match). Side note #2 - that was probably the most action I’ve ever seen from DeAugustino in neutral, presumably because he knew he needed the major. He’s usually incredibly boring in all the matches I’ve seen of his.
  3. What weight did Steen wrestle as a HS senior?
  4. I’ll forgive OP for not knowing the specifics of the danger rule or thinking it matters if the defensive wrestler is trying to pin the offensive wrestler, but I think it’s a worthy debate about whether DeAugustino was pinned there.
  5. They’re not going to care about calling it “against the home team.” They may have a slight hesitation to call it in the final matchup that would decide the dual though. And while it’s possible DeAugustino may have been pinned, I think generally speaking refs won’t call defensive falls as fast as they’ll call “regular” falls.
  6. There are posters here saying Ybarra would major him
  7. The picks aren’t crazy but the commentary is. Murin’s been on a tear lately? He lost to Yahya and his last 3 wins are over guys with a combined record of 16-28. Kennedy is “just better right now” even though his best win is over Danny Braunagel and Facundo just beat last year’s 4th place finisher? Haines also has to be favored right now over Siebrecht
  8. I think he would beat Ybarra
  9. Not so much him as much as 141 just cleared out
  10. I think 149-165 also used about a roll of tape each on their leg/knee
  11. RBY/Ragusin from tonight is precisely why this rule needs to be changed. By rule, RBY was not stalling, but he did nothing except react to Ragusin's attempts to escape (and sit on the ankle when he wasn't doing that)
  12. Yeah I’d definitely be most confident in Medley of the 3. In part because the parity at 125 after Lee is crazy (and I wouldn’t even say it’s “weak” as some have the last couple years). Medley would be a great Cinderella story though. Verkleeren can wrestle anyone to a 1 point match. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him do it a few times in a row at NCAA’s. Urbas I admittedly don’t think I had seen other than the Warner match. But seeing what he did to Warner I could see him doing that to other guys and going on a run. 197 of course is another weight with a lot of parity
  13. 125: #23 Jack Medley 149: #30 Jarod Verkleeren 197: #33 Cole Urbas
  14. If the cutoff is 5, all of them right? (anyone that isn't a true freshman this year)
  15. I agree with you but I assume he's referring to the more recent HS classes
  16. Looks like probably Northwestern based on his other posts
  17. I don't get the feeling it's more pronounced, they were just really helped by having 1 or 2 studs like Ashnault, Suriano and Rivera. And Ashnault was the only one that went there as a freshman. Soldano could have the opportunity to become that. Top NJ guys will often choose other schools, in part because a lot of kids just want to get out of state in general, but I'm sure some also want the top programs. Rutgers has for awhile gotten the "second tier" NJ recruits, which are still very good. And they've started getting some more from out of state. They probably shouldn't be losing to Indiana though. And I like Goodale but I can't really think of anyone that seems to have improved a ton since getting there.
  18. Had he successfully dropped 5 pounds on match day previously?
  19. I’m not seeing much difference between these 2 things
  20. I think you’re right for 2018. But in 2019 he had a 9-point major and an 18-0 tech in 6:27, and in 2021 he had 3 majors (1 quick tech and no pins but excuses are for wussies).
  21. Seems like it would also be a case of “do it in the regular season to help you decide if you should do it in the postseason”
  22. Guess they wanted an upgrade at 125?
  23. How many majors and/or techs did Lee get that he wouldn’t have if not for the 4 point nearfall?
  24. Yeah I don't blame him for doing it, that appears to be the blueprint for how to beat Lee. But let's call a spade a spade here. It was 3-0 to start the third and Rivera started on bottom. Lee rode him for the first minute so had like 1:20 of RT. Then Rivera escaped and the penalty made it 4-2 with the RT, which enabled him to tie it up with the TD at the end of the period.
