  1. I actually saw someone claiming that the law they cited in order to not name them may not cover athletics and is really for academic records, but IANAL
  2. I know they’re saying they need consent supposedly, but what are the odds they never officially release the names, even after they are not wrestling, etc? I’m guessing they might stay on the roster if they’re allowed to practice.
  3. I’m not sure I agree with calling those “free years,” but OK. But like I said, Dean didn’t even need the “free year” in 2020-2021 in order to still have 2 more years of eligibility after that.
  4. How are you defining "free year" here? Are you just referring to the year on the clock for the "4 in 5" rule? He did not get a "free year" of competition, which was 2020-2021, he wasn't at PSU until 2021-2022. And even that I don't think he needed because I don't believe an ORS counts as a year on the clock and he of course never took a regular redshirt.
  5. Yes he was who I brought up earlier, but part of PortaJohn's response was he never actually played in a game. But I was assuming there haven't been more than a few particularly in the last 30 years or so that have. Which maybe that's part of his point, but not sure when we're defining as "the old days."
  6. Yeah I hadn't really thought of that before but it does kinda make sense for Starocci since he may not wrestle a ton anyway, and yes would be awesome to see. I don't think O'Toole would go 174 with Mocco there, but Carr might.
  7. No UNC guys in the portal yet?
  8. Correct but I believe there was talk of him going up to 174 for his senior year right? This will be Mocco's last year.
  9. What's the point of Haines redshirting at this point when he can win the title? I kinda get what you're saying about Starocci, but if he thinks he has a shot to beat Dake then he shouldn't have a problem winning 174 while weighing 170 or whatever. I don't think maintaining close to 165 for the whole season is ideal, unless maybe he only wrestles a couple dates before B10's. But beating O'Toole/Carr would probably be more impressive to me than winning 174 IMO. Mesenbrink is the one who should probably redshirt for sure, so he can duck O'Toole and Carr and have a better chance at being the next 4x undefeated champ (not saying he will, just a better chance). Facundo should probably wrestle while he can start, and is of course a capable option that should score some points at NCAA's.
  10. Do we think Cael actually cares about the scoring record?
  11. How many D1 wrestlers in history have actually played in an NFL game besides Neal and Hasselrig?
  12. Referring to Josh Hokit, wrestling All American and former NFL practice squad member for multiple years
  13. Not in the Mountain West Conference though?
  14. Ayala injured again?
  15. Can the 2 teams send out 2 guys per weight?
  16. Would this prevent him from wrestling this season?
  17. I’m sure Jimmy will quickly pivot to “the Brands brothers need to be fired and Spencer Lee named head coach in order to restore the Iowa dynasty”
  18. This could happen, but I kinda doubt Sasso wrestles this season
  19. Just quoting this part for good measure in case he tries to claim he was right about no criminal charges.
  20. Give me Shapiro over Mauller, and maybe Ungar over Surtin, and yes I know he got pinned last year. And I don’t even like Cornell
  21. That was basically the same thing that HR was saying, so most likely correct or close to it. But it wasn’t “released”
  22. “Released,” huh. Only released to Pat Mineo it seems?
  23. Decent discussion about this on FRL today. Basically they found old salaries for Espo and Scott and several years back Espo was making a higher salary than Scott, so he could have actually gotten a pay increase despite the increase in title (and going to a lower COL area). Consensus was he’s not guaranteed the job when Smith leaves, but it gives him a leg up. They didn’t really get too much into what they thought the timeline for Smith leaving was, but did point out that he’s “only” 58, so isn’t really THAT old.
  24. The school didn’t have to officially announce it right away but I don’t see why they needed to demand retractions from reporters about it
  25. One thing this thread taught me is Cornell seems like the clear #2. They’ve got a good shot at taking 4 matches and a slim shot at 5.
