  2. As far as NCAA success, this would have to be the top class. TnT had three additional classes with four finals appearances: St. John (2,1) and Ramos (2,1), Lee (1,1,1) and Warner (2), and Gilman (2) and Clark (2,2,1).

  3. The hiring of Kish is why Richison's money left for OSU. That money is the sole reason DT is at OSU right now. Kish vs Rosselli is a wash. Lou sucked too. He tied for the big 12 title, which kept him for another year, but he didn't recruit local and at the time, Oklahoma had some top kids he didn't even call. Cam Steed was one of them he didn't even consider. Now, on the flip side Lou had Zan Fugitt committed. Kish comes on board and would not return Daddy Fugitts call. Dad wanted to know what was going on and he never called him back. Zan was loyal as heck to them too. I know for a fact OSU called him and wanted him to flip and he would not do it. Finally Zan said screw it, and asked to be released from commitment and they fought him. Long of a short, I heard OU recently reached out and offered a bag for him to leave Wisconsin, you can only imagine what he said. Kish has recruited well, we will see where this class ends up. Lots of local talent on there. The worst part, OU could have had Coleman Scott, and/or Maple, both asked to be considered and they got zero consideration. I never thought I would say this, but I would not be surprised if OU ended up bailing on that program. It is not a priority anymore. If I were the AD at OU, I would go after a big name, but if that was not in the cards, I would chase Maple, Andrew Howe, Brewer, and maybe a big guy or a Jared Patterson. ALL can coach, ALL can recruit, ALL have ties to OU.

  7. Yeah the access is certainly nice to see, but it makes criticism much more difficult. And in a season where TJ did not perform well at all, and frankly looked lazy for much of it, that was tough. I'm sure it's hard for a parent to read negative info on their kid, but if you're gonna have a kid that is a high performer in anything, get over it.

  9. Looks like my favorite dual meet of the year just added another storyline. Now Fishback just needs to do his part and get to Blacksburg ASAP.

  10. 2W-1L against Fishback, but 0W-1L against him last year on a 12W-12L campaign (VS 16W-8L for Fishback). Career records the last two seasons are 26W-16L(TJ) VS 36W-17L and 10W-7L (TJ) VS 16W-7L for common opponents. Razor thin when they wrestle, sure (no OT matches, fwiw), but Fishback was definitely the better wrestler last season. Factor in Daddy Drama and I would prefer Fishback on my team, rather than Stweart, 10/10 times. That said, Fishback or Stewart to 197 is a real possibility as well and I might like that one for NC State.

  12. Billy Murphy...that guy was talented...and kinda a sad wrestling story, although he did win an NJCAA championship. Coincidentally in high school, Billy was coached in part by Kyle Porter, also a 2X State Champ at Hughson...riveting stuff! (The Porter family are wrestling royalty in Modesto area, akin to the Zinkins in Fresno). He was a year behind that VT recruiting class, although he signed letter of intent when Tom was still at VT, he ended up switching to Iowa. Here's an old (and pretty good) article here from Intermat if you're interested:

  22. So I'm confused, what in the heck are you even arguing about...you said the SCOTUS said we had to return him, which you then say it isn't what the SCOTUS said, they you said we should ask to have him returned, but we did provide a plane, and then you said we didn't ask. Then you said Bukele should send him back because the District Court said Trump should send him back, but then you said no Bukele doesn't have to send him back, but should send him back if Trump asks...again even though we sent a plane. Then you backtrack even more and say, "Well Bukele shouldn't have said to smuggle him into the US because it wouldn't be smuggling....so AGAIN, what is your stance....should we or shouldn't we get the gang member back? Or is it you just want to complain about every little thing Trump does no matter what??

  24. A) you don’t know he didn’t ask in private. B) he doesn’t care to push harder because he thinks he’s a terrorist gang member. He complied with the order. Case closed. You want him to comply “more”. He doesn’t want to.

  31. Do you ever get sick of being wrong?? And have you ever in your life been like..."yeah, I guess I was wrong on that"...my guess is no. You remind me of the young relative that is overly opinionated (and wrong) on everything that no one wants to invite to Easter dinner.

  35. This is super petty. That's okay. That's your right. But crying about people being worked up when that was your goal is sad. If you're going to go heel, go full heel. Don't go half heel and then whine about people not liking it.

  36. I'm hard pressed to see why what Cael's beef is here. I get that he's a traditionalist who doesn't want to see March's significance diluted, but this is a private invitational, not an NCAA sanctioned event. The only rationale I can come up with for PSU/Cael's refusal is that if they go, and the event is popular, then its legitimacy may carry over to a renewal of demands that there be two separate NCAA championships (dual and individual) and/or that the National Duals results factor into the March individual NCAAs. But that's probably not it, as I think Cael's opposition to National Duals predates the efforts to get it NCAA sanctioned. Besides, other coaches that were opposed to a NCAA-sanctioned dual championship are participating. So... I dunno. I do wonder how long they can hold out, though. If this ends up being a big and popular event, with all the top teams, then PSU will be even further behind than they already are in the number of competitions their guys get. It could be a tiebreaker in recruiting too. Can't imagine the guys on the team are thrilled about being left out either. Hopefully the event's a big success and Cael gives in next year.

  39. As a Penn State fan and alumni, I really don't understand the hatred towards this event. I get why Cael will say no, the timing of it doesn't really make any sense, but the current wrestling season calendar doesn't either. If you have a team full of kids attempting to make world teams throughout the fall, they likely aren't "optimized" to compete in early November. This being said, as a wrestling fan, why would you not want to see at least most of the nations top teams compete. Particularly in a dual meet setting.

  40. When guys get hurt in January and February and have to miss the postseason, we can say they don't have their real roster, and we can also dismiss what happens at NCAAs, right? Lucas Byrd doesn't get to call himself champion because Ryan Crookham wasn't in the tournament, right? No. Like any other time, you go with the best guys available and the results are the results. Lots of guys are worn down by March and aren't the best version of themselves. Again, we don't discount the NCAAs because of it. There is no utopian scenario to get a perfect outcome. You can quibble with things like the date, or the selection criteria, or name of the event ... Or you can appreciate that there are people trying to make this sport bigger and putting their money where their mouth is to make it happen. And appreciate the fact that all these teams want to show up and COMPETE and put on a show for the fans.

  41. To be honest, I have no problem with PSU not participating. There will be fun individual matchups that we don’t get, but there’s now more parity between the competing teams. If everyone but Penn State participates, we are still getting a fun and competitive event that I look forward to.

  47. I've never soaked a brisket or shoulder either...sounds interesting. I'll definitely try it with a shoulder, but am hesitant to try it with brisket as I have my recipe locked...not saying soaking it won't be amazing, more just I like what I like and brisket is like sacred....LOL Doing pulled ham for a guy this weekend for easter. If you haven't done it I HIGHLY recommend it. I actually like it better than pulled pork. My reciepe for that is I make my own pork rub and apply it (I don't use binders), smoke until about 165 - 170 then pull it and put it in an aluminum pan and then pour apple juice over the hams and enough to fill the bottom of the pan, I also spritz it with Spritz King, then cover the pan with aluminum foil and then put it back on the smoker until it hit about 209 and then pulled it and let it rest in the turned off oven covered for about an hour. When I pulled it, it just fell apart...pretty much 99% of the fat had rendered and it was all meat...my kid said it was like ham butter. This was the finished product.
